Cut the bullshit people. Dime and Vin said themselves there was no drama or hard feelings when they split. So what if Phil wanted to do other side projects? He isn't the only musician in history to do that. Does it cause every band to split up? Of course not! So again, cut the bullshit. Phil can be a prick but what of it? You expect him to be a fucking saint? He's the lead singer of Pantera ffs. Not lead singer for a soft jazz band. It's a metal band! Of COURSE he's going to be a prick sometimes! None of those guys were perfect and they all knew it too. And then to top it all off, the man suffered from intense back problems. Like my Father did and maybe worse. My Father was a miserable son of a bitch to be around and it happened to him twice. Made him and everyone around him miserable with the pain he was in. Phil's solution was a terrible one (drugs), but in his mind it was better than going through the surgery and being out of the band for at least a year to heal up. That's commitment!

On a side note , Jazz musicians are not necessary soft , and were not saint. Meeting some guys in the jazz scene, they re even worse than in metal and that so called Rock n roll thing. From Bill evans to the guys such Elvin jones or Art Blakey , they re all on Heroin man.
@jcass19702 жыл бұрын

I think a lot of it had to do with outside influences as well. I could be wrong, but once you hear about girlfriends and wives getting involved it's pretty much over. There were too many whispers in the bedroom that drove a stake between the 4 men that made up Pantera.

They were the tightest and hardest, plus they had heart, soul, passion, talent, unbelievable energy and awesome stage presence. I haven't seen a better frontman, since David Lee Roth. Pantera were the Undisputed Kings of metal! It's so sad to have lost Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott. R.I.P Brothers. Pantera fans are the best and most loyal. Peace, love and RE-SPECT 👊💔😢

And everyone started lifting their chairs and tossing them to the back. Within a minute there were chairs flying all over the pit, one of them hit me on the head. My back and part of my face were covered with blood. Then all of the sudden Anselmo started to sing the Mexican National Anthem. It was mesmerizing to hear us all yelling the anthem at a Pantera concert. That big Pantera was. Greatest fucking thing I've seen at a metal concert.

The dude had issues in his Pantera years. Drugs, medical, emotional- unstable behavior when the band blew up. Once 9/11 happened he said he needed a year off, but almost immediately began recording and touring with several new projects. It gets hazy because it is said that he never returned any calls to the Abbot bros, and Anselmo says somewhat of the opposite. The Abbots had Sat out of work for 2 years before they realized Phil was done with Pantera and that they had to close the chapter. A bitter battle of words took place through interviews where Phil wishes harm on dimebag AFTER the interview was complete, (but the press love a good fight) but needless to say the Abbots were upset and didn't understand why he would have said that. Months later Dimebag is killed on stage. Look at it this way, had Phil got his shit together and Pantera Continued onward, there would've been no damageplan and Dime might actually be alive today. They dislike Phil for a variety of reasons. It's hard to pick a side...but I personally don't understand why Phil didn't just stick to his word and reform Pantera in a year. I don't feel Phil is at fault. Although I must say NONE of the side projects ever amounted to Pantera's greatness.

The feeling I get is that Phil had demons and addictions,and after his overdose witnessed by the brothers,felt like they didn't trust him like they used to which made Phil feel like s#$ t. Plus Phil had been doing the same thing for awhile and wanted some creative freedom.Pantera was a huge machine and my guess is Phil just wanted off for a little while,if not permanently,but was apprehensive about telling the brothers.He knew there was no Pantera without him,that band was metal's Beatles,NO ONE COULD BE REPLACED.Phil probably handled things a little immaturely ,but who hasn't? How many big bands have broke up with members having to go back to small clubs and play? A ton. Phil may have been guilty of doing some dumb things but no way did he wish Dime dead.

The *PLAN* was for Phil to immediately start releasing projects. *FACT* -That was the PLAN. Vinnie and Dime *DID NOT* wait around for two years. In an ideal world, the color of your skin shouldn't be used against you, but it is. So you should take pride in the skin you were given. I don't mean arrogant/reckless pride. Anyone who wants to see the fun times with Pantera, watch 3 Vulgar Videos. Behind the Music is always about tragedy in the bands they cover. They said for the first half of the show how amazing Pantera was, it wasn't just focused on tragedy. But due to Phils selfishness and lack of communication, Vinnie and Dime had to move on. And that led to Dimes demise. I'm not saying Phils responsible for Dimes death but he is damn responsible for the end of Pantera. No denying facts, unless your Phil.
