I feel that my life is really shit atm. And watching this interview, witch I've done over and over for the past month or two, gives me strength. Phil is an inspiration for keep on going with life and fight it. Phil is a true idol of mine and thinking of him gives me courage and strength to not give up on anything that I believe in.

It's pretty obvious that Phil is a down to earth, no bullshit kind of guy. What you see is what you get with him. He has maintained his musical integrity and credibility through all these years because he's an independent thinker who doesn't flock with the sheep, or make music for the mainstream. Despite his mistakes and mishaps, I think he damn sure deserves some respect for contributing some incredible music to the world.

Phil is a fascinating character. I love most of his music, but I wouldn't say I "like" him as a person...but I respect him. He's been through some serious shit, a lot of it self-inflicted, and for him to have come out the other side as a better person is pretty amazing. I could listen to him talk all day.

He's been through so much. He had a terrible childhood, left home at 13 and started singing anywhere he could. He's gone from being a lost teenager playing bars to one of the greatest metal singers of all time, spending 10 years with Pantera and playing arenas and stadiums around the world. Sure he's not the same Phil from the 1990's but he's been through a hurricane with heroin, died then survived, and lives to tell his story. Through hell and back, I have alot of respect for this man.

Fuck yeah, Phil. It took some balls to say the things he's said. To be so candid and frank about something that has caused him such pain. It's brave, it's what it is...even if you aren't a fan of his work or have some issues against him, you gotta admit its damn brave to say this in a room crowded full of people. Much respect Phil. Keep it metal, man \m/

You know what? Listening to this, to what Phil has to say only confirms what I felt meeting the guy. He is a man who says what he truly feels and says it 100%, whether it's right, wrong, controversial, or whatever. You have to admire anyone who sticks to his convictions, who can admit when he's wrong and mean it. Let's face it, in this business, everyone's out for something but I have to say, that I didn't feel that when I met him.

Anyone can say Phils brain is fried, but you gotta understand he has lived life to the fullest and seen the whole spectrum of joy and pain with physical problems and with substance problems. He is at a point in life where wisdom is what is left and a generosity for helping those around him.He has given his whole energy to make his fans happy at the sacrafice of his well being. You guys that talk and live life with controlled and sterile enviorments will never understand him.

What Phil says about painkillers is 100% true. A friend of mine was hurt in a construction accident. He was prescribed Viccodine, which he soon became addicted to. When he couldn't get that anymore, he'd buy what he needed on the street. 18 months later, he graduated to heroin and became addicted to that. All this due to a few broken fingers and ribs. It's a downword spiral. That's all it is, and nothing good ever comes from it. I am happy to say he's now free from addiction,

I just realized something. Music has NOTHING to do with personal preference or musical taste. Man, in fact, that whole word is a lie, it doesn't exist. I hated metal 3 years ago, and if I would have related that to my ''musical taste'', I wouldn't be a DIEHARD PANTERA FAN right now. No... it was pure interest. Curiousity. Its about habituation and motivation. And thats exactly what Phil means. Love and Will. They are the same thing. Habuituation = Love. Motivation = Will. Thanks Phil.

@KellyAnn2390 Me too. It can be a hinderance when the passion to do better consumes you with such a drive to reach perfection that you literally can't stop working on your music and do anything else, like even get to a job on time, but it can also make you great. I'll bet most of the elite level musicians have some form of this mindset.

I met Phil and the other three guys at a Waxie Maxie's in '94 for a CD release and signing of Far Beyond Driven. Saying wadup to the guys and shaking hands, they were super cool and almost like big brothers, especially Phil. Granted I was only 13. But now he seems like such a retreated guy, almost small and afraid. I feel for the man but I think his 'extremist' side was a poison, even without the drug abuse. RIP Dime and Pantera
