Very impressive. Right amount of weathering too. Often weathering is over done, you did it correctly lovely ship! thanks for sharing.

My dad served aboard a corvette, HMCS Wetaskiwin during the early part of WWII shepherding convoys between “Newfyjohn” and Reykjavík. I was and still am extremely proud of him, although he has been gone from us for some years now. I always wanted to build a model of his ship but, never did. Now my health and the lack of proper facilities precludes this, I can still enjoy the process watching your amazing videos and perhaps I will do a painting instead as that is my area of expertise. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your work.

What a remarkable and beautiful piece of work. Philip must have the patience of a saint. As a child my older brother used to make kit models of tanks and aircraft with his own scratch built additions and accurate paintwork and weathering, unfortunately I am too ham-fisted for such intricate work so I am in total awe of the talent (and patience) involved.

Absolutely amazing. The level of detailing is complimented by the realism in weathering. It reminds me of what my Father told me... During the war, these ships came off convoy duty, were reprovisioned, refueled and sent right back out on the next convoy. No time to scrub, chip and paint. The only time they were pristine was when they were delivered from the builder.

As someone who does scratch-building to accentuate kits... when you say "I leave it to you to judge the result", I am nowhere near worthy of bearing such responsibility. All I can do is lift my jaw from the floor and wipe the drool from my chin. Seeing the pre-painted build of that bofors, realizing that was done in 192nd scale, was absolutely amazing.

I have often talked with my fellow modelers about the subject of weathering. How much is enough? How much is too much? You have struck a fine balance with a lot of realism. I was in the United States Navy and spent a lot of time on these gray-hulled ships. We had welded patch plates wherever there was a repair or a need to access machinery underneath. A ship’s skin is far from smooth.

I dislike this degree of weathering on a warship. As an ex sailor I can say from experience and training that’s every moment not spent in actual combat, sailors were engaged in “ship’s husbandry”. That is, chipping, scraping, painting, cleaning and lubricating. If we allowed our weapons and equipment to fall into so much distress we could never rely on them to be functional 100%. So they were kept in near pristine condition as weather and enemy allowed
@raybame58163 жыл бұрын
I agree with your statement; however I can envision a war wary vessel, it's crew exhausted from patrols from US to Murmansk, Rus., doing convoy duty that may not have had that much attention. Said vessel could be the next one slated for refit and repair on the next billet. Just thinkin'. P.S. Hat's off to blue water sailors. Thanks.

Sir you are too modest. The same can be said of painting as the closer we get the more brush strokes we perceive. We need the proper distance and the proper angle to perceive what the artist is conveying.
