I think the biggest thing most people miss over this scene is that Caleb paid for everything AFTER his wife served him the divorce papers. That's another thing that makes this scene so powerful and an even greater reason for her tears, I think that's what she realizes as she is standing there before she walks away. She evens says, "Two Weeks Ago??" knowing that was after she had given him the papers. Caleb realized whether he won her heart back or not it didn't matter because his heart belonged to God and to her, he just wanted to finally help the woman he loved.

Clearly he didn't do it for his wife. He was a saved man, a changed man, and hence he didn't tell his wife, who by the way, thought he was a disgusting, violent, porn addict she wanted to divorce until she learned he bought the medical equipment. According to most people, when he was on his knees confessing his sin, confessing how he trampled her, confessing he was a horrible husband, asking for her forgiveness... did not signal a profound and deep change had occurred. Her response was what???? Cold and distant and uncaring. Everything changed for her when she learned her husband spent the money and not the good doctor. Only then did she put the ring back on.

I think a lot of people see this scene and think Catherine is being bought by Caleb's act of charity but what people fail to see is she sees the depth of his SACRIFICE. It is in that sacrifice that she finally sees what he said while kneeling by the bedside was genuine and true. Words are cheap, but true, deep sacrifice is undeniable. Brandon Romero lol you guys missed the point. He wasn’t even trying to really save the marriage until after God changed his heart. All the things he did until then meant nothing. Love is an action and he showed her he really loved her and was not the same man anymore with this action. Years of saved up money for his dream boat that he even told her from the beginning no one was taking that away from him. When he gave that up for her to help her parents and put her needs before his are what made her cry. I would also be crying I would be overwhelmed with experiencing so many emotions at once. That my man would do that for me. Also she had decided to move on because of all the damage that occurred in their marriage and thought he would never change but this showed her the man she married truly has learned to love her again 💗 beautiful written movie ❤️

Steven Phipps And to hate someone without a cause is the same as murder. The point is, you either respect marriage, or you don’t. This is why I became Catholic. For Protestants, there are many excuses for divorce that are quite weak. This movie is a perfect example of that. Had Kirk Cameron beat his wife, I’d say leave him. No one should live under threat of abuse. If he had he had an affair, that’s a hard decision to forgive or not. But you’re saying if he got on the dark side of KZbin, then she has a right to divorce, then no wonder the divorce rate is over 50%. In fact, I’m shocked it’s not worse. Protestants have 40,000 different versions of Christianity, because there’s 40,000+ registered denominations. I’m sure whatever your itching ears want to hear, you can find it. Myself, I’m disgusted by this movie.

Here are a few tips on how to fireproof your marriage that's worked for my wife and me for over 31 years: 1. Place your relationship with your Creator above all else. 2. Put your spouse's needs above your own. 3. Communicate, communicate, communicate. 4. Honesty is the foundation of any lasting healthy relationship. 5. Remember that love is best expressed in action. 6. Die to self, live for others, and you'll be happier for it. 7. Become a skilled listener and forgiver. 8. The grass will be greener on your side of the fence if you water it often. 9. Beauty is only skin deep and fading, but a gorgeous character will last a lifetime. 10. No matter what it is, always remember, "This too shall pass." Bonus tip: The best lovers are born of the greatest communicators who genuinely respect and care for each other's feelings. Fabulous and frequent intimate time is the outcome of a daily close connection of heart and mind through communication and an abundance of loving words and actions. Many affairs are created when one or both parties feel their emotional and/or physical needs are not being fully met, so if we communicate these feeling to our spouse and work on providing them from a loving heart, we'll go along ways toward affair-proofing our most sacred relationship. #FireproofMarriage

A couple of additional things to your great list have helped my wife and I for 43+ years: 1. Love is not an emotion . . . it is a choice. No matter what, I choose to love my wife, every day. A real man knows how to make choices, even when they seem tough, but really are pretty easy when you put your wife first. 2. I made my commitment to God and my wife at the altar, not to my wife alone. 3. The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence, but that means you will have to mow it more often! (Translation - you may think marriage takes work, but trying to manage divorce and re-marriage with kids and all their activities, two sets of in-laws, navigating birthdays/holidays/etc. with blended families and exes . . . no thanks. I’ll take what I have! We learned from the divorces of my brother (2), and my wife’s brothers that we love our side of the fence, even with its holes, fading stain and rickety gates!!!)

@@ciscoj33 While I actually agree that alot of women can be shallow about money, this case is a little bit different. Its the fact that he spent his ENTIRE life savings on it. To a DR, 24K is a drop on the bucket. To an average Joe, 24k is alot. Before this point, the husband was a prick, didnt help anyone or anything, and only saved HIS money for HIS boat. The husband got saved and tried to show her he was changing for the better, and that he truly loved her. Most people wont believe words, but they will believe actions. Yea baby, sure you are never going to do that again. It was the fact that his actions spoke for him. This dude spent years saving, and actually cared more about the idea of his boat than his wife at the time. When he got saved, he showed her that he valued his wife more than his life savings. This could easily be replaced with any other thing. It could be that the husband loves his job more than his wife. Spends all his time at work and ignores his family. When wife gets tired of it and leaves and if the husband wants his family back, he has to make a choice. Saying you are going to change aint gonna cut it. You quit your job and focus on your family. Its the same scenario here just without a $ figure attached.

In my situation that's my Husband giving up packs of Cigarettes to help my Family out so,if I found that out after thinking a guy friend did that I would immediately go apologize to him for doubting him &I can relate to Catherine because, my Husband has been selfish &insensitive but, surprised me &done for others.

Every one missing the point of this movie kaleb finally toke his marriage seriously what he did for Catherine mother taking care of the hospital bed and whatever else she needed he wasn't paying for all that stuff to try to get his wife back he was doing it out of love at this point because he finally knew how to love his wife he didn't know or probably didn't know if his wife was still want to go through the divorce at this point he did that out of love because he finally learned how to truly love his wife

Plus he did it without telling her. Which shows he was truly doing it out of love, not to get her to stay in the marriage.

What Catherine did was wrong getting cozy with the doctor. And Catherine almost ruin her relationship with Caleb because she was cozying up with the doctor. And thing that made Catherine return to her husband was when the lady told her that her husband pay for the new wheelchair and bed.

I'm glad that Caleb has decided not to be selfish 🐟 about the hospital things that Katherine needed for her mom

Love is about being with person who you care about and that's why Catherine forgives her husband Caleb for arguing and fighting and then he apologized for being so mean to her. But that's not what love is about. It's about being with the person who you love. And a husband and wife should never fight, they should always love each other. Not fighting and arguing, that really makes you wanna divorce.

It's a cute movie, but let's be real, so many marriages end in divorce and it doesn't matter how hard you try ... My Dad was an awesome provider, even adopted 2 kids that weren't his, and ended up losing his marriage regardless.... He fought like heck to keep it also... Loved my mom like crazy.... Sometimes it doesn't matter, it just doesn't work ... You can only put so much effort into another person...

It's been 2 years since you posted that comment. Has anything changed? Are your parents still together? Have they separated but are still on talking terms? Or has everything been lost and its done,its completely over? It's crazy and sad how people can fall in and out of love. Oh well,Game of Thrones season 8 and Avengers infinity war 2 are out next year. Can't wait for that 😂

now if he had not done the donation i wonder if she would have ever consider even going back to caleb honestly i understand that caleb had his flaws but he wasnt a unfaithful man and while he was struggling to become a good man in the eyes of God and working hard to save his marriage his wife was flirty flirty with the doctor, had caleb never intervene when he confronted the doctor who knows how far that relationship would have advance but that is not the message of this movie LOL thats just how I saw it as a kid

Maybe the doctor Keller was like Caleb before Caleb accepted Jesus into his life. Keller may have get along with the co-workers but at home he is looking at websites that he is not looking at, commiting lust by looking at other women and getting into catfights with his own wife at home. (just saying).

So basically all the other nice things he did for her prior to this didn't matter and she was still set on divorcing him, but when she finds out he dropped 20 grand, he all of a sudden is "good man" now. Apparently money is the only true way to a woman's heart.

It wasn't about the money. He was saving up to buy a boat. She has always asked him to help with her mother. He was able to show her that he was willing to put her needs before his own. Prior to that he was extremely selfish
@WdnUlik2no8 жыл бұрын
Yeah because wanting a boat is selfish. She wasn't thinking about his needs when she was getting it on with the doctor. Nor when she rejected his many efforts to save the marriage. Nope, the only reason she decided to stay was when he spent his entire savings for her. Had it been the doctor, she'd be all over him instead. Following the money as usual. Want to save your marriage? Spend all your money, what a great message.
@markfowler33778 жыл бұрын
That's a very valid point. I am not justifying her actions in the movie. They were both in the wrong. Although it isnt like the money was spent on a diamond ring or flashy car, befitting her directly in any way. And it isnt like he is loaded and will be able to spend 24 grand on her every time they hit a rough patch. I'm just saying that him giving up his lifelong dream in an act of self-sacrifice opened her eyes. At the end of the movie she asks him "I want what happened to you to happen to me too". When his heart changed she kept on rejecting him and she refused to believe it, which was wrong of her I suppose, but throughout their marriage he grew cold and resentful towards her. He was more concerned with himself and she unrealistically perhaps expected so much from him which caused them to further drift a part. I'm not saying wanting a boat is selfish. But he wanted that boat more than he wanted his wife, which I do believe is wrong. I am sure that if he was saving for a boat and showed affection, love and respect to her that there would not be an issue. And it was wrong of her to be so open with the doctor while she was still married. But they both were flawed throughout the movie. When he started changing she found it difficult to believe in as her trust had already been broken by him and naturally she would start gravitating towards a handsome doctor who showed her the affection her husband never did. Her realizing that he gave up his boat for her reminded her of her love for him and the mistakes that she also made, leading to her wanting the same change to happen to her that happened to him. In the end they both needed to change to save their marriage. So it's more than just a boat or money

WdnUlik2no women are fragile, built respectfully and wonderfully, and different from man. It is according to the word that the man lay down his life for his wife just as Christ laid his life down for the church. Catherine is a foreshadow of humanity. She was broken and ended down a path of seeking things that will fulfill what she needed at that time

Amazing how much life we gain when dying to self!!
@jamie75402 жыл бұрын
That's what makes it so awesome. God can just put you in a place to pay for someone's food if you're listening whatever He saying in a still small voice if it is good to God and maybe a sacrifice to you but have faith cause listening and obeying is worth more than checking yourself about 30 times and not doing it. If you are doing something right the evil one doesn't like it. I'm learning new things everyday from God. I don't know everything but I do know He gave His Son Jesus to Die for our sins. If He can do that nothing is impossible with God.
