Same same here! Just 72 here. I joined the US Army at 17, retired from said Army at 19, the rest is a series of tall tales, adventure, misfortune, tragedy, world travel, and general fun. Born an Rh baby & grew up in West Texas, got all the dieseses a kid could get and survived them all. Had an old grand daddy, he was much like these 2 characters. Only he was dirt poor. He taught me the basics about life. How to track, trap, and cook things. How to sharpen & use a knife. How to use a child size 22. Pump rifle. I learned to play poker and how to shake a man's hand & how to greet a lady. I listened to his tall tales from his youth and his travels as we sat at his campfire. He taught me a few things about how men should act. He was worn down and only had one eye left and it was bad. He once drove my father's car into the lake trying to drive it. That was a sight! I think of him when I watch this movie. He liked to play his harmonica & drink a little wine. He ended his days herding sheep around Uvalde Texas where he was born. Blessings to you Grandaddy Elliot, where ever you are now. Thank you. I understand now.

'And we shall all know how to perish, Following tradition.' -- 'Le Boudin', the marching anthem of the Legion Etrangere' I think this ending is wonderful. Way back when rocks were soft, I served with a guy in a crappy country down South. When we got out, he had trouble readjusting so one day he sold everything, caught a flight to Paris, partied a couple weeks, sobered up, and joined the Legion. At my last hearing, sometime right before the Millennium, he was a platoon sergeant in the 1er REC. I hope my old war mutt ass passes away as cantankerous and loved Hub and Garth. @@apollo4619 There's nothing to be envied about killing, Apollo. Not a thing. Trust me on that one. I understand that you want to 'do something'. I understand that garrison life is boring and is chock full of chickenshit. But I got two things for you: 1. The Ukrainian Legion is getting fed into the battle line very quickly. No training, no cohesion, no esprit-de-corps. You'll just be a replacement and probably not even know enough Ukrainian to get on the radio effectively. 2. Then people will start dying. Maybe in your squad. Odds are, as a replacement, you'll get told off for recovery detail... stacking the dead like cordwood in the back of a GAZ. This is not the shit you want in your head, ok?

Additionally there are so many UK/US volunteers they are now folded into their own battalion (aside from SF teams). As for your second point, yeah I get it I just don't like sitting on my ass in the rear while my boys are out there helping people. Hell just last week my buddy sent a video of them pulling civilians out of rubble (alive) from a missile hit in Odessa or some city.

There is no reason to feel bad about where you sit right this minute. What you choose to do after your hitch is up is entirely up to you. You're a man and must make a man's choices for a man's reasons. And you're **certainly** not gonna make them to make me happy, right? I joined the AF in 1958. Met a friend in basic training, went to missile electronics school with, attended each other's wedding, and we helped raise each others' kids.......stationed with or near each other for 20 years. Went through unbelieveable shi.....stuff together, though not like in this flik. He retired in '78.....I in '81 Been living deeeeeep in the Missouri Ozarks just a few miles from each other since '99. .......call him "Jim" Didn't see this movie until my daughter (with 4 kids of her own) called me and said: " DADDY, they made a movie about you and Jim ............ you GOTTA see it." What a compliment from my baby girl. ..........this ending -- the one I saw, originally -- always brings me to tears.........

The first and only other place I have seen this ending was on the two CD set at the deleted scenes section.

I love this film. I just watched it again two days ago! Thanks for this original ending, but I do love the theatrical ending with the Sheikh's grandson and great-grandson! And the yacht in the pond!!

I've seen that movie several times! And, almost everyone I've mentioned it to has said it was great. But this ending is so much better than the one in the movie. Thanks so much for putting it on KZbin.

This has to be right up there at the very top of the list of my favorite movies. I've watched it at least 20 times, and every time it's still amazing. And I love this ending.

I thought the movie was going to suck, but it was AWESOME! I highly recommend if you haven’t seen it yet. It really took me by surprise. No special effects or anything , just quality everything.

A truly great movie! It was very undersold and didn’t seem like it was going to be much of a movie but turned out to be one of the very best ever made!

This was one of my favorite movies. I think they decided to release the correct ending to it. This ending is sappy and common place. The one they released had the right mixture of sentimentality and humor that matched the rest of the movie and was the perfect capstone.

A great movie. One of the few I will watch repeatedly. I know some tall tales are true. Apparently my life and my deeds are the talk of the family. The younger ones find them hard to believe but my generation who are alive tell them it’s all true. Second hand lions was a good name. Me, I am a ‘was’ now and can only miss the younger version of myself. When you get to the end of your life you are only memories in your current worn out body and then, we are only memories which fade over time. I would rather have a celebration of life after I pass on. For people to remember to be the best human being you can be while here is important to leave your small part of the world a better place. It is not so hard to live a positive life. It is harder to live a life of hate, anger and grudges. It destroys who you are and the best you could have been in life.

Even at my older age of 70 I really enjoyed this movie, I can't remember how many times I've watched it and it brings a tear to my eyes every time.

The young man in this clip is, I think, the actor who plays the young version of John Dutton in Yellowstone? I've looked and searched for years trying to find this movie and a few months ago I was able to record it on my DVR, I'm going to go watch it again tonight!!! This is one of the BEST MOVIES EVER MADE! It's a shame it is not more popular and available more easily.

I've watched this movie so many times since e I saw it orginally at the theater and I rememeber that when it was orginally released it did not have much advertising about it..not like many films that don't hold candle to it....I own a copy but still watch it evetytime it's on my streaming channels....it's like the original Angel's in the Outfield, Field of Dreams and the climate that give hope using humor and down to earth feelings The movie Hope Floats is sort if the same...in the end everything e is well...and we all are wanting that in life.
