Great review as you touched on many aspects, however, you didn't touch on the color shift this monitor has. I heard it has a slight green cast. Is this true?
@philipbloom4 жыл бұрын
Alexander Torro I haven’t noticed it. You can easily calibrate it anyway
@alexandertorro4 жыл бұрын

I'm trying to decide between the new Indie 7 ($800) and the Atomos Shogun 7 ($900 with $300 off black friday discount). My experience with the smallhd and atomos so far has been that the Atomos has much better quality screen than the Smallhd. Although for camera mounted monitor, the size and weight of the smallhd does come as a huge plus. I've heard a lot of people complaining about color shift and the quality of screen which the Smallhd offers. What's your experience with the Atomos?

I hope they make a Bolt version of the Focus 7. The 703 seems amazing to have, but it's just out of the price range for some. And the Focus 5 is just a tad bit too small in some situations. Hopefully I can fall in love with the OS of these. I currently can't stand all the menu diving and all the touchy touchy action. I like physical buttons and joysticks. Maybe the 703 Bolt is the right monitor for me after all?
@philipbloom5 жыл бұрын

Any chance the touchscreen focus would work with the Canon C200’s Dual Pixel AF?... the C200’s on board monitor already does this but its quite small and practically unusable in direct sunlight
@Filmmaker8095 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip, I respect your skills, experience and love your work, but do you not think that SmallHD are overpriced when compared to Atomos Monitor/recorders? Not only are they cheaper, but they seems to have a lot more features, if you look at the new Ninja V. I own the Ninja inferno. Not to mention, Atomos have just released the Shinobi which is 5 inch only monitor. Basically, a Ninja V without the recording option.

birlingtheottawa I more or less did. Is it a new panel? Don’t know. Both look great. You can see the brightness is the same

Philip Bloom thanks! if it is the same panel it would make sense for hdmi shooters unless you wanted to future proof yourself for sdi.

birlingtheottawa I don’t see any reason to buy this if you have a 702. This is a budget bright 7” for hdmi users really.
@brambo1295 жыл бұрын
Philip Bloom would you say that there is a noticeable ‘input lag’ difference between SDI and HDMI? (Considering to use this as my FS7 evf ‘replacement’, shooting mostly shoulder mounted - documentary style). Making up my mind between the 702 bright and the Focus 7. Would appreciate your input with regard to SDI vs HDMI ‘passthrough speeds’.

My ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom phone has a 5.5" 1080p AMOLED display and 500 nits of brightness, so I don't feel much of a need to get a monitor for my G85...especially with the excellent Panasonic app. It might not be the solution for everyone, but it's worth thinking about so you can save yourself some money.
@philipbloom5 жыл бұрын
That’s is sooooo nothing to do with a high quality monitor. This is about accurate monitoring and focus! Your suggestion is simply about accessing controls. You simply can’t even compare the two in the same breath. Try a proper monitor like this if you don’t believe me!
