This PC culture of 2017 is destroying comedy. Comedians say controversial jokes in order to take people out of their comfort zone so that they can let loose and laugh. Everything famous people say is looked at through a magnifying glass to see if there's anything people can get triggered about, and like you said, this society is filled with people who get offended for others who may or may not get offended. It's stupid, its ruining comedy, and it's run by idiots that want to burn it all down.

@bricekiser23967 жыл бұрын
PC culture is destroying our culture as a whole not just comedy, let's not kid ourselves, when people start using the law and violence to try and silence people who they find offensive we have a serious problem. The examples like Dave here are simply ripples in the pond. Look at guys like Milo, like the incident at UCBerkley. There's a sensitivity problem and it's not just affecting comedy.

Dave Chappelle has never been PC. Apparently those who decided to get offended are completely unfamiliar with his previous work. IMO, Dave is the greatest comedian of our time. At this point, there probably inst anything that could come out of his mouth that I'd consider too far. The last thing we need is a legend like Dave rethinking parts of his routine or funny comments he might make out of fear of backlash.

I'm happy you touched on what rape victims face on a daily basis because people like to deny that it happened and victim blame. Also, when situations like this happen (the girl lying about being raped), it makes people deny rape and victim blame more. Whenever I share my story, I always get people who don't believe me because I am a woman who was raped by another woman. Of course, before they find out it was a woman who raped me, they ask what I was wearing and how I was acting. It's ridiculous how many people instantly turn to blame the person who was hurt instead of the person who did the hurting.
@Nikkitighe7 жыл бұрын
A woman like that who blatantly makes up an assault is just as much as a criminal as actual sexual assaulters in my opinion. People like her are the reason why women who are actually raped are not taken seriously and subsequently why their rapists are not criminally prosecuted.

Dave did nothing wrong. He's a comedian. Its his job to push the limits.
@goodguy63697 жыл бұрын
I think he should be applauded, I personally think comedy is meant to be audience based and to have people laugh at themselves. If you don't like it don't listen to the jokes they tell. I love Dave Chappelle's work because he tells he sees it is no bs and no political correctness. If they don't like it they can stop watching ,but trying to guilt trip people into not listening to something is wrong. Let people make their own minds up don't say he is homophobic let them make that assessment when they watch it. This is why I dislike SJWs and LGBT pushers since they try to tell people what to think and that is something that is not only wrong but its borderline facism. Maybe an LGBT person might think it was funny ,maybe they don't take a joke personally and take it for what it is: a joke. I wish they would just report the reviews and never mix politics with these things and just say its controversial and leave it at that. That way you don't go watching it with the bais of well they said he hated gay people. Ya the news also said trump would never be president but look at the pile of bullcrap we are covering in now thanks to their bais toward helping Hillary try to win and almost making sure Trump won by supporting her so bluntly.

Or the part where he labels himself a feminist and says he wants to see women succeed and not be held back by their gender??? In no way do I support or condone any hate, homophobia, or sexism but the thing to remember is that all the "offensive" things Chapelle was saying was from a comedic perspective, they were jokes. At least for me, I didn't perceive the tone or the delivery of his set to be at all aggressive. He was even making fun of himself at certain points in the show and I think that people just need to learn to laugh at themselves every now and then and not take everything so seriously. Just take in the context and pick your battles wisely people.

Comedian's entire careers rest on pushing boundaries. Dave Chapelle, Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Gabriel Iglesias, and so many others are hilarious and successful because they aren't afraid to say what they want. Whether it be making jokes about gay people, jokes about abusive relationships, jokes about child molestation, obesity and how people do it to themselves. Like you said, you take off your real world hat when you go to see a comedian, when you watch them on television performing, or their specials on other platforms.

@finnthyhuman_7 жыл бұрын
ahmed moussa , have you ever really listened to their shows? Kevin Hart in more than one of his shows that I've watched makes jokes towards abusive relationships that he's been in. Gabriel Iglesias makes jokes about being obese and how he would rather be unhealthy and happy than healthy and unhappy. To a good amount of people in the world abuse relationships aren't something to joke about, and neither is obesity. But they still do it. It's not as in your face as child molestation, but it's something to get people riled up about if they don't have basic understanding of comedians.

Under the story of comedy, I'm right with Phil. I feel comedians should be allowed to push the line, although I don't think we can fault those that get upset. Often people who get upset about comedy are discredited as snowflakes, and I understand why. But, we have to remember that for whatever reason it is, that joke drew to close to home for them. And it upset them. They're allowed to be upset because their most likely hurting and implicitly taking it out on the comedian. I ultimately don't think its the comedians fault, nor is it the people who get upsets fault. It's just an unfortunate situation, and we should all have a conversation about it.

@TreveonBa7 жыл бұрын
First, let me say that I didn't watch the special. I'm just hear to offer some perspective that hasn't been circulating much (as far as I can tell) in this comment section. One thing about comedy that everyone must remember is that it is subjective and that context is extremely important. What is funny to one will not always be funny to another. Once people choose to make a joke about a specific group, they effectively make one about every member of it. Now so a trans that decided to to watch him perform live or watch him on Netflix may have a blast. They entered/watched with the intent to hear his comedy, and understand the context surrounding it. Another trans, sitting at home flipping through facebook and accidentally stumbling on an article describing his show may not be as effective. Context is lost, as well as the humorous environment (for a lack of a better word choice). In the end, a reaction such as the one that happened to Chappelle is an inevitable, and a reasonably expected one.
@celinak50627 жыл бұрын
Echo Echo +
@speckle_says7 жыл бұрын
+Echo Echo I support what you're saying. Comedy is definitely subjective, and the views of one member of a group shouldn't be used to reflect the entirety of the group. Chappele's humor doesn't appeal to everyone. I haven't seen the special myself, and have no desire to, as I don't think his comedy would appeal to me. But I completely support his right to say whatever he wants to. Censorship is a big issue, and comedy is a very grey area, with people pushing the line between humor and just plain being an asshole. But comedy is always evolving, views are always changing, and people should be allowed to say what they want to. That being said, I have what may be considered a "nitpick" to some. To me, it's actually kind of a big deal. In your comment, you used "trans" as a noun. It would be like saying "a black watched it," "an old watched it," or "a fat watched it," etc. Trans is an adjective, and using it the way you did just strips people down to their transness, as if that's all that defines them as a person. Many people may think this isn't worth pointing out, but it's something I care about. I'm not ordering you to change your language, just pointing out that grammatically, it's incorrect, and emotionally, it can be hurtful.

@phoebesulistio68307 жыл бұрын
Nnnnno, no. No rape victim would agree to that, it would be making light of their own circumstances. When they implicate a specific person or people however, they should be punished more severely for smearing the reputation of the accused.
@nickpillow56927 жыл бұрын
Yea
@jadecampos11527 жыл бұрын
Phoebe Sulistio It doesn't matter if actual rape victims agree, people who falsely claim rape should be punished just like rapists (my opinion). You can't control rape and you can't control false accusations. Some rapists DON'T get jail or prison time, especially if they're under the age of 18 or 16 years of age. But most female rapists don't get punished either. Falsely accusing rape, whether it there were no suspects, if they say it was a black or white male or female those races would get hated upon for a false claim. If no one was specified and they admitted they faked it, no one would take a rape victim seriously. Most lie to get attention or hurt a race or person, and if they're going to do that, they need to be punished.

As to Dave, if comedians don't cross the line, talk about those things that are uncomfortable to us we are silent and the discussion that needs to happen might not! I'm with you on this. Lenny Bruce is a hero of mine for speaking out and never giving in... Talbot should go to jail and be an example for people bearing false witness, always wrong! I really appreciate your well-balanced perspective and reporting. You are a refreshing voice.
@TheJjcczz7 жыл бұрын
Personally I think the punishment for false reporting should be 6 months to 1 year in prison without early release plus a large fine and restitution for the wasted time. I think this is severe enough to make people think twice about false reporting and teach them a lesson should they do it anyway.
@023natan7 жыл бұрын
TheJjcczz when someone goes to jail for rape, the average sentece is 10 to 15 years. with a false acusation of rape you are sending a inocent to jail for over a decade. So, you know what, 10 to 15 yeas should also be the sentence for false acusation of rape.
@TheJjcczz7 жыл бұрын
Natan Alves Falsely reporting a rape and sending an innocent person to jail are two separate crimes. If someone false reported a rape and got someone sent to prison it wouldn't just be classified as false reporting it would also be considered framing. And depending on how far the framing went would result in a several charges with more severe punishments. My recommendation is only for people who falsely report rape and not for people who frame other people for crimes they didn't commit. If I were to make a recommendation for someone who framed another person it would be that they receive either half of whatever sentence the person they framed got or the full sentence depending on the circumstances. So for example if someone was framed for rape then whoever framed them would either get 5-10 years or 10-15 years depending on things like wether or not they confessed or if they didn't confess and instead got caught.

I don't understand the anger behind ads showing up next to or before controversial content. I get that a company has a lot of time/ money invested in an ad and wants to ensure it sends a certain message and reaches a target audience but at the end of the day an ad and a video (unless it's a sponsorship) are two separate entities. the fact that people are comparing an ad and it's company to the video it appears next to seems somewhat absurd. it's like if you go to a grocery store and you find apples in the pasta isle, it doesn't make much sense but I'm still going to buy the apple if I'm in the market for one and it doesn't mean you should pull all apples from the store.

Here's an idea for the youtube ad problem: Give advertisers the choice to be featured on certain channels that they can choose (Like for example, MacDonald wants to advertise on pewdiepie's channel, markiplier, etc) and only display their ads on chosen channels. Then, say they can also appear on algorithm sorted videos, but with the added risk that they could be inappropriate. Then it's giving advertisers more choice and still supporting smaller KZbinrs. But that's just my 2 cents
@jadecampos11527 жыл бұрын
Olympus Legacy I agree completely, or KZbin needs to start watching over videos before they're uploaded, because KZbin only checks the thumbnails, titles, and tags. They don't watch the video to make sure they're appropriate. Anyone could post a bombing or rape on KZbin but put a different title and thumbnail and get away with it. It's bullshit and it needs to be fixed.
@scribs77287 жыл бұрын
Ads choosing their channels to advertise on would be a bad idea. They'd probably make demands to let you get an ad on your channel.
