You can tell his a filipino based on his accent. When I'm calling on a toll free number I can tell right away if its a filipino on the other line or not based on the accent itself. Filipino's are more precise on their dictions and pronunciations.

I think your pronunciation depends in what region you came from in the Philippines. Some Filipinos speaks english with their native dialect accent and some speaks with american accent. Some can understand english very well but cannot speak it so well. We Filipinos can easily learn or adapt to any accents in the world i guess. ^^ I also wish to be fluent in english that's why i applied in a call center company just to develop my english speaking skills and i'm gonna start my training next week already. Wish me luck! ^_^

This has been the most fun and charming video I have seen in ages! I have spent time in the Philippines, and I must say, the husband's speech seems so perfect compared to most of his fellow citizens I ever spoke to. I think he has spent a long time in the US, or around Americans. And the charming wife was so cute! i once had a Rhodesian wife. She died some time ago. But I remember our conversations about the dialects. It was so fun! So I understood you both very well. The exceptions being a few particular Australian slang terms. So, thanks for the memories, and the fun.

I'm a Filipino living in Sydney for 25 years now. Comparing Filo and Aussie English, I go for the Aussie English based UK english where it all came from. You guys are so fun.
@sheb59618 жыл бұрын
In average Philippine English, unstressed Ts in between vowel sounds aren't pronounced as soft ones. Like for "tomato", Filipinos say it as /toh-may-toh/ instead of /tuh-may-doe/; for "elevator", /ele-VAY-tohr/ instead of /E-le-VAY-duhr/; and for "indicator", /in-decay-tohr/ instead of /in-decay-duhr/. Also, "soda" and "potluck" aren't commonly used; rather, we use "softdrink" and "bring your own" (but not "BYO") likewise. "Aunt" is never /aent/. For "oregano", I think /o-re-GUH-no/ is more common than /o-REH-ga-no/ here, but people do tend to switch the syllable to stress on on many English words anyway.
@tadthudz8 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on most points, except potluck (it's definitely potluck, never heard byo in manila) and oregano. Joseph pronounced oregano as most Filipinos would.
@sheb59618 жыл бұрын
+rhoda I'm a Filipino but idk, it's the first time I heard the word "potluck". Tbh I had to google "byo" to match up the meaning. As for "oregano", I was referring to the stresses. From what I hear from people here, it's the "ga" part that they stress usually, not the "re" part.
@tadthudz8 жыл бұрын
I'm a Filipino too, and I grew up in the Philippines. Potluck in my experience has been used by everyone from elementary school to the work environment, lol. Also, yes, oregano is always stressed at the "re" part by most Filipinos, in the same way that the "ri" in "origami" is stressed....

You guys are so cute. :) I mix up American and British English a lot. Since both are acceptable then both of you win.lol Hi from a Filipina teacher in Indonesia.

This gives me giggles as I can relate with this 2, I'm dating an Australian and she always picked with my filo accent everytime, she managed to correct me but I still have strong accents, she learned several of filo language with an aussie accent and we both laugh at each other 😁 greetings from Melbourne

Barbecue - barbie Man - bloke McDonalds - Maccas I love this.... had fun watching until the end of the video.. really had a hard time understanding the aussie words during my first few months in Australia.. but later got used to it..

i appreciate how you sweetly reconcile with every difference of words but then hey you still understand each other. 😊 i have a degree in english and i can relate to both languages. downside of it is i tend to mix them and later on i kind of ask myself if i was actually using the right word or even say the right pronunciation.lol.. anyway, there is no way american english can be reconciled with british english and the other way around. i don't know. as long as it's english. i guess that's the most important thing. 😉
