Philippines House Update - Reveal

In this episode we show you through the changes we have made to our home in San Vicente, Ilocos Sur, The Philippines. For those who remember the state of the house when we arrived in the Philippines you will recall that it was left in poor condition and there was plenty of work to do to get it looking good. You'll see us working on the landscaping and making some upgrades, particularly in the electrical department. We installed a new CCTV system, new lights and a 5.5kw solar system. We also did a bit of painting on the gate and downpipes, installed new doors, covered the grey water tank, installed another AC unit, got rid of the ugly burn pit, and took down the electric fence (so it no longer looks like a combat outpost in Afghanistan LOL). But it wasn't all work and no play... we also had a pretty busy social schedule, catching up with a lot of new friends (many expats) as well as many people in our local community, and of course we maintained "date night"!!. You'll see what Halloween looks like in Vigan City too, it was crazy!! That's where we leave this episode... in the next eoisode we leave our home in the capable hands of our caretaker and we head to manila in preparation for Australia. Ow hey!!! you are the couple that bought the Armstrong House!!! CONGRATS YOU TWO!!! I wish someday I could convince the wife to move back to the Philippines... Solar power is more practical in a 3rd world country as the installation cost is very modest and the workmanship is just as good if not better than in a 1st world countries but without the ridiculous installation fees!!!. This is also a great option as the kwh in the Philippines is ridiculously high @ .21 cents per kwh and the power grid is not very reliable... Im the Philippines, it is sunny 80% of the time and when it rains, it will wash the solar panels clean! lol so it is self cleaning haha. Looks like your location is near the beach, so it is not as hot as other places, thus extends the life of your solar panels.

You did the right thing by replacing the stones with bermuda because the stones only make it warmer and put a lot of plants. I saw that before and I thought before while watching the video of the previous owner why not just bermuda especially since it's so hot in the Philippines.

Maybe you should plant bananas along side of the sea wall.Also mango cause they are more productive and looks good too. My sister have a huge house like yours. But she is very good in decorating and landscaping. She planted some productive plant and flowers along side of her sea walls. She mix the hardy flowers and fast producing fruit plant. Like banana alternating with flowers and bushes then papaya and no coconut cause it grows so fast and dangerous when the weather is bad. But she has flowering bushes and some cactus. The slow growing cactus with color.Her house is like paradise Island inside the compound. Don’t overdo planting around cause they grow fast and get bigger. My husband have Landscaping business before and I know how he do. Just saying and giving hent to make sure you don’t have to redo again.

Be aware that the Calatea plant will grow extremely quickly and insanely huge and take away space from the other plants. Keep the Calatea under control.
