Filipino's are some of the most cheerful yet badass people on the planet. I shoot competitively with a number of Filipino guys who were formerly Army or National Police Officers before they moved to Canada, and dear lord i tell you, when these guys are switched on, they are absolute masters, hyper lethal, but the moment they come out of the zone they are back to being the cheerful and having the often ridiculously big smiles that many Filipino's are known for. I've seen lots and lots of footage from the Marawi battle, and what always is most striking to me, is that even in the middle of a war zone, even when wounded, you always see these guys smiling. Probably the happiest professional soldiers you will ever meet. edit: I should add that I am myself half Filipino, so I may be a bit biased.

I'm half Filipino (with the other being British) and I echo your statements. I remember watching Marawi combat footage and seeing how hard these guys went in fighting the Islamists. I shoot as well but not competitively and I know a few Filipinos who shoot and yeah, they're good at what they do. I do a lot of gaming and if there is every a Filipino on the other team (sometimes you can tell by their gamer tag or if they have a flag as their emblem), I am more cautious because of how cunning they are. I often have to rethink my strategy because eerily, we almost mirror each other and sometimes it means we literally run into each other. It's crazy.

They finished the job quickly because they were trained for precisely that kind of operation. When the War on Terror began, the whole world was shifting to counter-insurgency tactics and operations and we relied on the United States to provide protection against external threats, we were able to concentrate fighting Communists and Moro Separatists. This is the perfect war for the Philippine Army to fight in in the most perfect conditions.

It was a dark day to reminisce losing your brothers in arms but we did everything to liberate MARAWI. During that operation I was a little bit lucky when a sniper bullet hit my tactical helmet on the edge and never suffered any serious wound thou I was hit in my shoulder later that day by an ISIS sniper but still I was able to pressed, fired and sung my M249(SAW). Being in the first regiment of the strike group Scout Rangers made me ask myself, that if I will be in that situation again, would I still choose to go in that operation? My answer is YES, not just for my countrymen but as a soldier it is my duty to defend my country and fight until the last bullet that I have. WE STRIKE anywhere..

The guy who got shot in the Head with a .50 cal must had been hard to identify...
@_spooT
@_spooT 4 жыл бұрын
it depends. it's not the same as you see in the movies that your head turns into a watermelon and splashes all over the place. most of the time the round enters smoothly during entry, meaning leaving little damage if he got hit in front of the face. however, the exit wound would be much more devastating due to shockwave. I guess that's why they were still able to identify them
@hazardous458
@hazardous458 4 жыл бұрын
spooT No, a 50 is enough to blow someone’s limbs off. In the Vietnam war, there was someone that got hit by a 50 in a training accident in the chest, there’s a large hole through his chest and the intestines and organs were basically coming out.
@hazardous458
@hazardous458 4 жыл бұрын
spooT There are cases where some people got blown in half by a 50. A soldier accidentally hammered a 50 cal pin which blew the round and blew his entire hand off with like 2 fingers dangling from a bit of flesh
@_spooT
@_spooT 4 жыл бұрын
@@hazardous458 12.7mm rounds vary. Their belts also vary depending on what they're intended for. They can have belts loaded for anti-air like API-T, or a mix with Armor Piercing, Armor Piercing Tracer, API-T etc. I've seen it operate and killed many people during combat. It really just depends on the type of ammunition that was in the breech at the time and how far your target was. I've used it only once during my time of service. Usually .50's or as we call it, the BMG, are usually loaded with ball ammunition (standard ammunition), but they can be changed. Twice I've seen an APT go straight thru clean upon entry, but tore a hole on the back end where the bullet exits. Regarding the limbs, of course it would tear off. Your limbs have soft tissue and not that much mass to compensate for the bullets shockwave upon entry. The shockwave would reach the end of your tissues unlike if it hits center mass where the wave has a lot to travel through or spread. I understand most of you have seen it on videos. But do intend to research the type of ammunition 12.7 BMG's use and what they can be loaded with. Videos are just videos. Real wisdom comes from real experience and acquired knowledge. Study it, learn it, see for yourself, and then make a conclusion. Based from exp? Once you get a taste of firing that puppy, you'll feel like a new man
@_spooT
@_spooT 4 жыл бұрын
@@hazardous458 again, as i said. it depends on the type of round. Oh yeah, blown in half..i remember that in rambo. It would kill you if it hit you straight in the spine, but no, it's not powerful enough to actually separate your body apart. I've taken out people with it with ball ammunition loaded. Never have I seen them get ripped in half. It's not as powerful as a 20/25mm cannon. Regarding to the soldier your talking about, yes, ammunitions can explode, some equivalent to a small but powerful firecracker enough to blow your finger off.

I'm an American soldier (since 2010) and a former Philippine Army soldier (1996-2007). My high respect to all comrades in arms. You have my snappy salute! Sa totoo lang mas mahirap ang training diyan sa Pinas (mas 1. brutal, 2. mahaba/matagal, 3. kulang sa pagkain, 4. kulang sa kagamitan). Facts comparison: US Army Basic Combat Training is 9-10 weeks. PHI Army Basic Training is 6 months. US Army Ranger 'School' is 62 days. US Army Ranger 'Assessment and Selection' prog. is 8 weeks. While the PHI Army Scout Ranger Operation Course training is 8 Months + more during 'Test Mission' against REAL enemies. (Wala silang totoong Test Mission katulad ng sa FSRR bago maka graduate). Meron sila dati sa 'RECONDO' pero tinanggal na kc merong nasusugatan at namamatay noong Vietnam war era. Kahit saan man sila mag set up ng detachment or temporary camp meron palaging portable kasilyas/kubeta. Merong supply sa tubig, hand sanitizer, sunblock, etc. Habang sa Pinoy talagang pure 'Survival'. That's my honest and humble observation. Kaya dapat ipagmamalaki ninyo ang mga Pinoy Warriors.

The only thing she ever taught me to say in Tagalog was to count to ten and "my ass hurts", I can't spell for shit but it was something like masangkit pwet kho, thats how it sounds at least. At least I think that's what it was. But yeah anyway, super goofy lovable people - shout out to Pangasinan! I'll always get down with you guys. Stay the way you are the world is better for it. I visited Marawi Ground Zero 2 years ago. It was the most surreal thing I've ever seen. It was like a scene from a movie. The most intense thing was that among the rubble you could still see the remains of everyday life: broken dishes, chairs, children's toys, clothes... At the time I didn't really know much about what had happened, but I've learned a lot in the time since. I'm thankful that there are brave soldiers around the world who are willing to do what has to be done to keep extremism at bay.

They actually showed mercy. Some of the Soldiers are crying because they need to kill their fellow Filipino who've been deceived by IS. There was also a time when they tried to ceasefire. They sent a lot of helicopters and throwing a lot of bottled with a letter inside saying: Surrender now, living is better than this. But the rebel continue to battle on, the soldiers also caught some rebels and some of the soldiers wants to kill them because they have fallen brothers who died because of this rebels. But they didn't killed them. They aid them and give them food to recover their strength. For sure they are now in Jail.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines have been caught by surprise back then but they've managed to pull themselves through. If they have been given enough equipment, we wouldn't have a Problem with Communist and Jihadist Insurgents in the future. Back then, the AFP was underequipped and looked like the Vietnam-era style units and equipment. Modernization had to be put in high gear because of the Chinese threat and Terrorism. Edit: Side note, the last time Filipinos engaged in Urban warfare was the 2013 Zamboanga Siege, 2008 Attempted Coup, and other past Coup attempts.

The filipino soldiers and special forces are well trained in jungle and insurgency warfare, unfortunately they are not well prepared for joint operations involving multiple military branches in an urban environment. Carlo Alicer I agree for the most part but I heard that the rocket that killed the friendlies was defective. The rocket barrage was fired by a Philippine Air force attack plane. The pilot reported that most of the rockets hit the intended target building until that one rocket veered off course and unfortunately hit a nearby building with friendlies. This one should be blamed on equipment defect and not lack of coordination.

@@paulthenotsogreat8032 It's a given on that some of those rockets are defective i mean some of them could be surplus and pretty much old like the OV 10 platform launching them. There are also reports of bombs or rockets hitting way off target as in kilometers apart from the given coordinate. And seeing footage from the ground units themselves some of them are just a block a way from the terrorist and with the fast pace of cqc there would naturally be confusion on where the exact coordinates of the friendlies. But hey its war things like this always happen in the battlefield.
