Philips hue Bluetooth bulb (without hue bridge)

so Philips have finally released a bulb collection that doesn't need the expensive bridge to make them all work together.
the new Bluetooth collection are great but now without compromise, but I've found a workaround but is it enough?.

Thanks for pointing out no switch or motion sensor support. You mentioned using the Hue BT app. I find that I can use the Echo Dot without the BT app to discover and control the bulbs

Actually you can pair that switch with up to ten bulbs using the zigbee side without the hue bridge. Great video by the way... cheers

How do you get these !@#$% to breathe so you can set them up I paired this, it worked for a while, all my white bulbs work, and then this one lost it's pairing and I can't get it to pair again because I can't put it i nbreathing mode

The bulbs stopped working with alexa hub after a week had 5 only 2 work, tried all the tips on how to reset them but they dont work its quote a comon failing it seems, looks like Phillip's are trying to force the sales of their bridges.

I'm just wondering if one was to put it in a Normal lamp, would you be able to turn it on and off using the lamps switch thing, I'm kinda thinking of getting a multicolor bulb maybe not sure yet, but I'm unsure about the light if it is just controled withe app thing. For now I'll use a normal bulb in my new lamp

Keep an eye out for sales that do come down. And yes if you do get some your can still use the lamp power switch.

I wonder if you can assist... I am trying to setup some lights 'upstairs' (in a 3-bed semi)- we already have Google Home downstairs. I bought a Google Nest Mini Smart Speaker and plugged it in upstairs and added two 'Philips Hue B22 White Smart Bulbs With Bluetooth'... We plugged it in last night and it all worked... woke up this morning and it had stopped working... tried to re-add the bulbs and they just cannot be found by the 'nest'. and also won't pair with the Philips Hue App. The nest answers to voice and plays music. Any suggestions? Note: The bulbs say 'Google assistant compatible.'

One question I can not find a definitive answer to is multi-zone scene control without the bridge. For example, I live in an apartment and only have 3 bulbs (2 rooms) and I want to control the scene in one room but not have it change in the other room. Right now I just have the bluetooth app and you do not have the option to set control zones. So I either need to make sure the lamp in the other room is off via the wall switch or I have to turn it off in the app after setting the scene for the room I am in (bulb automatically turns on if off in the app when changing scenes). Does the addition of an Alexa device give me this option to control 1 room and even 1 bulb at a time without effecting the other room or bulb? Or does this require the Hub. For only 3 bulbs the Hub seems like a waste of money, so if I can avoid the Hub and get what I need through an Alexa device that would be best. Thanks

It's a good question, Alexa should solve your problem, within the Alexa app you can set routines that will control individual bulbs To do as you wish on command. download the Alexa app and it should work without a smart speaker, your phone will act as a device.

It'll work, everyone think you need a speaker and you really don't, you could probably get the same results with Google assistant.

What about the new Hue Go lamp? That is bluetooth too. Does that work with the app and alexa/google assistant?

Thanks for clearly Answering what I was looking for. I have a couple of other questions if you know the answer to. Since both the Echo and hue bridge has a limit to how many lights you can connect to them, I need to know how the extended light strips are counted? So for ex: if I use 1 main light strip and I connect 8 of the extension light strip to make a total length of 10 mtrs. Will all that 10 mtr count as 1 light or 9 lights (1 main + 8 extension)?

I just bought one, it updated the firmware in the bulb, now Alexa, Google home, Google assistant, don't work, you can only use the Philips app and it has no voice control at all. I'm sending it back.

Is it possible to set up a routine on the Alexa app so that the lights will turn on and off by themselves? (I received an echo dot for Christmas and would like smart lights but only if I can have them come on before I wake up, and I don't want to pay for a bridge when I only want a couple bulbs)

You certainly can. If you go in the Alexa app and select routines and select the plus icon in the to right corner, you then select "when this happens" then select "schedule", from there you can set a certain time of your choice or sunrise and sunset. . Hope this helps

Wait wait, I can set up these bulbs without a bridge? Their support said that I can’t. When I’m plugging it to the lamp (IKEA’s) I still can set them up via the app just by Bluetooth? They haven’t turned that option off? 😦

Yes you can buy just the Bluetooth bulb and install the Bluetooth app(not to be confused with the regular hue app) and follow the setup. I've done it and it works

The Bluetooth bulb will work independently with other hue Bluetooth bulbs or it will work with the rest of the hue range but it will require the bridge. How this helps 👍

I set one of these up without the bridge via the hue app and Alexa. Worked perfectly for a month or two, then lost connection and will not connect. Bluetooth pairing to my phone also rejects, I think Philips is trying to force me to buy their bridge

I could not get the Philips Hue Bluetooth White Bulb to work with Google Home Voice Activation, it just keeps saying connect a Bridge, but it is Bluetooth not meant to need a Bridge, Philips Bluetooth App needs to be Fixed so can be used with Google Home Speakers, a lot of people have complained that it does not work

I can really only testify to it's use with the Amazon echo. I've not tried connecting them to Google. But it seems straight forward. Did you get the app set up first And all working well?.

I have the same problem. I can't seem to connect my Phillips Hue Bulb with my Google Home Mini. On the Phillips Hue app, it says it is ready to be connected with Google Home. But when trying to set it up on the Google Home app, it says I need a Bridge... They really should fix this because a Bridge should not be needed to connect Bluetooth light bulbs

Terrible connection on these. Takes about a minute or two for bulbs to connect with app. Really annoying coming home from work every night and having to sit in the dark waiting for your lights to pair

would you do another video on this... I believe you no longer need to Philips hue bluetooth APP if its going to work with alexa Just plug it in, turn the power on,, ask alexa to look for new devices Then NAME the BULB in the ALEXA APP.
