I think the great variety of bulbs and lighting products is what makes philips hue great as opposed to cheaper options. And with the addition of bluetooth tech in the new stuff you technically don't need the hub to get started anymore.

Been using Hue bulbs since mid-2017. (Hue white, Hue white ambiance, and Hue color.) Excellent product. No regrets. There weren't as many options back then. I have only Hue and LIFX lighting. They both integrate well with my Smartthings and Alexa setup. As you mentioned, buy the stuff on sale. Something is usually being promoted. Here comes Prime Day and Black Friday, for example. Forget IFTTT. They are changing their business model to monthly fee for private users. Just spent a couple of hours generating scenes in Smartthings, combined with new Alexa routines to replace my IFTTT applets. Some had been used nearly 5,000 times. LIFX might be gone soon too, from the looks of things. Too bad, their color bulbs are very bright.

Which bulbs do you like most? I’m considering a Hue starter kit. White, white ambiance or globe?

So glad I found your channel. I just finished a 2 year build on a commercial recording studio. We’re using Philips Hue E26 bulbs in the ceiling and the LED tape lights around the perimeter of the rooms. The problem is that our bulbs are all making a high pitched, constant whistling/ringing sound. The tape lights are quiet. We have NOT installed our dim switches yet, only normal generic wall switches so far. The noise gets louder as I increase brightness on the app. Darker colors barely make any noise at all. Any idea what the issue is? Thank you

Philips is pretty good. It is Dutch so that says it all. And yeah i am from the Netherlands.

My problem with hue is the lack of bridge integration. If you have 50 or more devices you need to get a second bridge and then swith between the bridges to control the ligts and that’s a pain. Also the HomeKit Integration with more bridges suck, the hue app keeps import the room from your other bridge into the first bridge but no lightbulbs to connect to becaus they are on the other bridge 👎 But everything else on hue is a breeze and still love them and voice control works like a charm across the 2 bridges 👍👍

I am brand spankin new at this and need assist. I want to learn. Is this the best place to start? With this 4 pack? For starters, I just need my 3 front porch lights to be on at dark, off at dawn. Same with one light back porch. I want amber colored lights either now or when available. 👉You seem to know what your doin! Any suggestions for me? Thank you in advance👍

@@swgforthefence I'm not sure if you want to spend the money for basically lights on a porch to come on at specific time... these are quite pricey... there are cheaper options... but having them... their a joy to use... all my lights are inside the home...

I do need to spend and get lights on my porch. Is this a good start? Or is there something else? Long term cost seems decent. If I put 3 ...25 watt bulbs out on my front porch for 8 hours x 365 the cost would be way more than this. Any suggestions? Thanks Curtis.

@@swgforthefence I would suggest if money isn't a concern... go to a Best Buy store and purchase them there and keep the packaging and try them out if you don't like them... then return them... not sure if there would be a restocking fee... you can always ask if there is... also in the starter kit the bulbs don't come in watts... they can be dimmed thru the Philips Hue app or can be integrated to work with the Google Nest home if you have it

Ok...sounds good. 🤔 Is there anything for outdoors that i could compare this to? This seems like a decent investment . But I'm up for Less cost if possible. Plus, my porches are covered. No rain. Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it. ☺

Love Hue bulbs. Just buy them around the holidays for cheap(er), and you won’t have to complain (much) about their steep prices. Prime day is coming up, so I plan on buying a few more in case any of the ones I have go out in 22(ish) years 😂

Are they bright? Can I use them like a regular lights source? How powerful is it? Like 60w or 100w light bulb?
@notbearygeekyy3 жыл бұрын
@@idinfinity yes. I’m using the older one around my house and they light up the room. I would recommend their strips for a better light source too. They just released much brighter bulbs late last year, so you should look at that! Amazing tbh

One question: Given that these smart lights are very economical to run, is the current draw finally dependant on the dimmed state ie 1% to 100%, OR Is the wattage set at the spec for that smart bulb, what is rated on the box... 100%. Thanks in advance, this video was a good (first ever seen ) introduction for me so thank you so much.Steve. And some interesting videos yet to watch. ;-]
