Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney made ridiculous comments about the strict regulations on the sale of wine and liquor compared to the lack of restrictions on the sale of firearms. He suggested that if guns were regulated similarly to alcohol, it could be beneficial.
This is ridiculous because in Philadelphia, purchasing alcohol only requires a license verifying that you're at least 21 years old. However, buying a gun involves passing two background checks: one through the Pennsylvania Instant Check system and another through the National Instant Background Check system.
Felons can legally purchase alcohol in Philly, but cannot legally purchase a gun.
Additionally, the individual in question was only 18 years old and therefore not legally permitted to purchase a handgun.
Mayor Kenney's remarks came after the tragic killing of a Temple University police officer, which was committed with a firearm that police have not yet recovered. While it is uncertain how the shooter obtained the weapon, Kenney used the incident to criticize the lack of restrictions on firearm ownership and purchase in what he called a "gun-crazy state."
He also stated that the second amendment wasn't written for AR-15s, AK-47s and Multiple shot clips.
This argument is silly because if the founding fathers wrote the second amendment so that the people had the necessary arms to fight back against a tyrannical government and the current government is running around with machine guns, you really think the founding fathers would say the people should only have muskets to fight back against a tyrannical government that has machine guns?

The mayor was SOOOO proud of the fact that the law on the number of wine bottles sold was being enforced because the store wouldn't sell 8 bottles at one time. I guess mr. mayor didn't put too much thought into what he was actually using as an example of how "great" that restriction law worked. All I heard was him pointing out that the old man got around the law by having to make 2 purchases. The mayor literally pointed out that restrictions don't work.

Fun fact: the British marched on Lexington was because they got word that we had cannon stored there. The British were ok with us having muskets, even stolen ones, but drew the line at cannon. Philly native, here. When the mayor spoke on Oaks, PA, he was referring to the quarterly weapons shows. Let me tell you, they are strict with purchases. If someone fails a background check, for whatever reason, they are met with either an ATF agent, police, and/or, if you're lucky, an FBI agent. He makes it sound like you walk in and walk out with anything you want. Not the case.

If the second amendment only related to muskets, why wouldn’t it preclude things like the Puckle gun? Which was invented years prior (1718) to the amendment, and is often referred to as the first machine gun. The Puckle gun was invented in 1718, and it was referred to as a "machine gun" in 1722. The Giardoni rifle was a magazine-fed repeating rifle in service with the Austrian army from 1780 - 1815. This 20 shot repeater entered service nine years before Madison introduced the first draft of the Second Amendment in the House of Representatives. One of these rifles went with the Lewis and Clark. The founding fathers were well acquainted with these advanced weapons when they passed the Second Amendment.

Actually there were multi shot weapons when the 2nd Amendment was written. Lots of them as a matter of fact. You had the Puckle which had a capacity of 9 and could discharge 63 rounds in 7 minutes, the Girandoni which held 22 rounds and could discharge every round in 30 seconds. Lewis and Clark would be given one by Thomas Jefferson to take on their expedition. You also had the Belton Flintlock which held 20 rounds and could discharge every round in 5 seconds, the Kalthoff Repeater which held 30 rounds, the same capacity as a standard size capacity today and the arms created by Joseph Chambers which included one that held a whopping 224 rounds and could discharge 120 rounds per minute.

interesting as the Constitution was written 70 years after the First Machine Gun was created. The Puckle Gun was a hand crank revolving rifle that fired 9 shots in 1 minute. So to say they were referencing a Muzzle loading 1 shot rifle to defend yourselves is ridiculous. I have done extensive research on the Second Amendment and I have read the personal journals of James Madison on the writing of the Constitution. Our founding fathers actually debated for 2 weeks on the term "Arms", as it would be a world that would stand the test of times and could be used to describe any object to defend ourselves from tyranny. This was placed in the Constitution as a means to prevent future governments from removing our right to "Keep and bear Arms", as if they were to write "Keep and bear muskets", this would allow the government to limit what technology a citizen could have while the government could have anything they want.
