Crossing my fingers for variegation. I loved this video. I am not only a plant addict, I am a propagation addict. My husband teases me about my tendency to spend the summer making baby plants and then trying to find homes for them all come fall. If you are successful with the return of variegation you should pot a big pot up for yourself and sell the rest...then you have more plant money. He-he! Keep us posted. I know first leaves are usually not variegated so it may be awhile before we know. Thanks for the updates.
@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. I too am keeping my fingers and my toes crossed...and yes when we see the harvest one can reap through propagation it does become quite addictive. I have to hold myself back from propagating ones that are too small...but once they get big enough it's CHOPPITY CHOP for you! LOL! Great suggestion and yes I do intend on keeping some for myself and will be happy either way. I also love the dark huge leaves that these can produce so I actually hope some don't variegate. The awesome thing with the Pink Princesses is that they normally will show variegation right away where you don't really have to wait too long. So we'll be able to find out rather soon if the variegations have come back in most cases. Thanks so much joining me on this plant propagation adventure...and PROPAGATION NATION UNITE! LOL! HAPPY GROWING DEAR!

Thank you and tell me about it! I must admit, I had some regrets after chopping it up because they were growing so beautifully. I am finger crossing that at least some grow variegated...but I will still be happy with non variegated ones as well because they are so lovely with huge blackened leaves too. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING! PS I finally went to the Edison and Ford Plant Sale! I LOVED IT! So many new varieties that I learned about and I was so surprised at what types of plants I brought home this time. I am expanding my horizon my friend and so glad I am...especially with some of these plant prices...I am happy to get some plants that won't keep me in the dog house or sleeping on the couch! LOL!

Have you considered trying air layering next time before chopping? Seems to be becoming a more popular way to do it to have a higher probability of success and without the rot and loss that you may get with trying to root chonks.

It is...and the anticipation of having more plants is always very exciting! When you see the new babies bursting forth you feel like such a proud plant parent. I think that is why I love aroids so much because they are so easy to propagate...there really is any science behind it other than finding out what method works best for you and the cutting. I am so happy to hear that you got a PPP for 60 buckeroooooooonies!!! OH MY! Now that my friend is unbeweavable!!! Total awesomeness and major congratulations to you! I am hoping for many successful baby births from your propagations. Make sure you update me on your results. If you are on instagram, I would love for you to share some pics with me. Thanks for the update 😃 Wonder why the ones in the container didn’t do so well? Where they kept warm?
@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
I am not sure myself...both of the container and the sphag and bag were kept in the exact same conditions...and in actual reality the container seemed to be a bit dryer than the bag. The only assumption I could come up with is because the stem laid completely flat and somewhat submerged in the sphagnum moss it caused more risk of rotting and perhaps the way the cutting was laying down it went against its natural growth direction and flow causing it to grow slower. That is my guess. But whatever the reason I have decided that I will use the sphag and bag method from here on out. The results in this case have been phenomenal.
@sherryporsch93493 жыл бұрын

@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
Hey there April! I actually never had the Thai Sunrise. Did yours lose its variegation? That’s the sad part about getting some of these variegated plants...you run the risk of it losing their variegations and reverting. Even some of the ones they consider “stable” are still not immune to reverting. I have a Monstera Thai Constellation that believe it or not is currently reverting! Imagine my heartache. I may try to do a video on plants that revert. Thanks for the suggestion dear. Blessings of love, happiness and prosperity to you and your family! HAPPY GROWING!

When I had a four to five foot long Pink Princess mother plant, I cut her up to get more plants. Everything started out deep green/red and then went variegated depending on the season. I had that mom for close to 30 years, direct from Thailand. Now I just have one 6-in tall baby starting all over and it's just starting to show Pink flecks..... hoping for the best here in south Fla.
@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
Awesome to hear that the cuttings gave you variegations...but what happened? Were you only left with 1 plant baby out of all the cuttings? I hope I misunderstood and you had better results. It was hard for me to cut up the one that was 4 ft long...she had beautiful, large dark leaves and in all honesty would've been satisfied with that...but the curious plant scientist in me couldn't resist. I do hope that in the end it will be worth it. Wish me luck and I will continue to keep my fingers crossed. Thanks so much for watching and HAPPY GROWING!

I prefer perlite but not like most people are saying to do it. The perlite needs to be barely moist. You want the roots to search for moisture.

How do you which is the top on those little stumps?
@PictureMaria13 жыл бұрын
I try my best to remember what part is the top when I propagate...usually situating cuttings in the same way...top at top and bottom at bottom. Also the leaves or area where leaves are removed should be below the node or new growth. It is always good to propagate cuttings and growing them right side up because it can effect the speed of growth of the cutting and in some cases there are some plants that can be stunted or will not grow properly if grown wrong. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!
