I'm soo happy you caught it on time, I was very happy when I found the last one at Walmart and it too was flopping over. I just thought it needed a stake till I could find the time to repot it. At the time it was in a very heavy peat mix that had no aeration. By the time I got to repot it a week later it was too late to save anything. I've learned to take a look under the hood sooner especially with plants purchased online awesome video.

Such a great video Christine to show that the look of the plant can be deceptive; you would never guess from the outside it lost it's root system. Well done you for saving it

This really helped me save my Neon Pothos. It was doing good in the first weeks after it arrived from the shipment and then I started to see yellowing. Then when I checked the roots, that's when I saw how my plant had suffered so much. Good thing I saw this video. Now I am putting it in a jar of water and I see new roots coming out.

I'm on this journey with my birkin. I bought it with the same issues. Man....so many roots to remove. Poor thing was in so much dense, broken down soil that even mold was growing on the bark chips. I'm going to water propagate for a few weeks as well after treatment and then olant in a better pot. This video was very helpful!

Very informative. Thorough explanation and step-by-step footage re: rehabbing a philodendron with root rot. I will definitely try this method in the future. Did not know that you should put newly "pruned" plant in hydrogen peroxide solution or that you could cut back the rotted roots to this degree. Thank you.

Wonderful! I alread had a birkin that died of root rot, now i got another one that seemed to be wanting to go down the same road. I was wondering to use some kind of antibiotics, but our peroxide idea was just perfect! Now let's see if I can save this one, as I caught the rot in the beginning. Just plucked the affected leaves from the base and didn't need to cut too much of the roots. After the peroxide treatment I'm going to replant it in loose soil with tree bark for some weeks and let's see. It seems birkin is really sensitive to water! Thank you!!

Very well produced info video!! Thanks for sharing!! Cheers!! I use Physan 20 and KelpMax (only this brand is a serious root and growth simulator) from First Rays LLC to deal with these same issues on rootless orchids. I do have to try the Hydro Perox solution on minor leaf infections when my plants are outside.....

Thank you for this video. I purchased what it said was a birkin but it wasn’t it was a rojo congo but it was wobbly in the pot so thought just add more soil WRONG. Saw this video and thought take a closer look. The soil smelled like ammonia really stinky, the soil saturated. So quickly rinsed the roots, not many did your tips and have my fingers crossed. It was purchased at walmart, wish they knew how to water plants there.

Info good to know about ways to save plants from root rot. Christine, you have an enviable collection of grow lights and I have purchased several based on your recommendations. Would you consider sharing info about the energy costs, spacing above plants, heat given off and anything additional you found as you added grow lights to your plant room? Grow lights have increased my plants' health and beauty. My utilities are included in my monthly rent and while I tried to calculate the yearly electrical cost based on info from the grow light manufacturer I can't tell how much my power usage increased as I added more lights. My estimate was about or less than $1 per week per grow light. My lights are on timers so the timers also use some power at additional cost. Thanks for all of your videos over so many years. It's fun to review your videos from your "Hawaii years". Best to you.

Hi Christine! I’m currently following your process exactly with the same plant and so far so good!! I’m hoping that next week I can move mine to soil. Can you please specify just how much water to use every 4 days? What is “smaller amount” for your plant? Maybe 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup? Thank you!!! ❤️

Hello, I'm brand new to plants. And I just bought my first plant (besides a few cactus I have)... And it is a philodendron Birkin. This is well 2, and the soil stiff feels really damp. I haven't watered since I got it as I tried to do as much research as I could to find out how to care properly. However today, after checking it out I noticed 2 of the small leaves underneath have yellow spots. I'm really worried about root rott. This plant is absolutely beautiful and I'm really trying to be a good plant mom so I feel safe buying some more. Do you think I should do what you have dun in this video. I'm nervous to repot especially since there is lots of snow on the ground and I knw you shouldn't repot in winter. Pls help me save my plant 🙏
