@Ozunoda also its non official but Rowling gives her blessing that it's legit, a book about quidditch and it's actually really awesome reading, they state a game precursor consisted of boulders dropping on people's heads and killing them, if you didn't die ❤️ you win! It's a hilarious Scottish game with the champion named denthead 😂😂😂 but it's pretty cute

Commenting again as I have finished the video. The editing is good, the way you seamlessly integrate text from the books and movie scenes is top notch, your style of critiquing is enjoyable and your points make sense. There's 0 reason for the algorith not to pick this up and show it to people interested in long video essays. I'm not sure whether you are still actively working on essays but I really think you should give it another go.

Thanks for the comments. I am slowly working on part 2, doing revisions and editing what I've already revised (which is kind of when I pick up the pace). As for the algorithm, Harry Potter is about as over-saturated and competitive a topic as I imagine I'll ever make a video for; without a boost out the gate it's just hard to gain traction. That being said, the few that do see the video do seem to click on it, and in the past week it's inexplicably jumped up about 100 views after months of near-stagnation. Shrug.

Actually, not to be that person, but I think in the books, Apparrating is introduced in PoA, particularly when Snape is screaming at Dumbledore about how impossible it has to be for Sirius to have escaped the tower because, in all caps, loud enough to be heard through the castle walls, "You can't Apparate or Disapperate in this castle!", before promptly busting through the infirmary doors to accuse Harry, who, mind you, is being treated for Dementor exposure, of Sirius' miraculous escape, much to the shock of Madame Pomfrey and Fudge at how freaking unhinged he sounds. I don't think it's elaborated further, but it's definitely mentioned by Snape there.

Yeah there's been a few comments conflicted on where exactly apparition is first suggested to occur or mentioned, such as Ron mentioning it in apparently only the America version of Chamber, or some of the crew using it to get to the quidditch world cup in Goblet. Point is, I do think its likely Rowling had the basic idea of wizards having a teleporting spell quite early on in the series, and my concern is simply when that spell was introduced for the main characters - Harry, Ron, and Hermione - to use, because then its an active tool of the narrative in the same way they use polyjuice or the patronus. Otherwise its just world building.

Just finished the video. Will be binging the rest of the series later, but really wanted to highlight how much I love your inclusion of the knowledge we learn later on in hindsight alongside your critique, instead of just chronologically recounting the events of the books or movies like many other respectives tend to. Great work

I heard the reason they made Polyjuice not change voices was so that they didn't have to give speaking credits to the actors who played Crabbe and Goyle.

One of them does go "Caaaw" right before they eat the drugged cupcakes, but I'm struggling to remember if they have any dialogue in the books or films before Hallows. Kinda scummy if they didn't get proper credit or pay because they didn't have dialogue (its not like they're extras), but that sounds like a myth.

I think it's simply bc of the medium of film. it could get confusing for some people to remember who is who, so they had the actors keep their voices. but I also wouldn't put it past the movie industry at all to do something like that

One of the main reasons for the change in the devil snare scene. was because they never used the potion scene. This is the part were Hermione shined. Ron had his moment. harry had his. If they did not make the change Hermione would be left looking like an idiot.

I'm reminded of the fact that Harris had a fairly varied film career in the 60s and 70s and 80s.. and I'm kinda certain he could have pulled off a lot more than people assume. It's not like he had the voice of Douglas Seale.:D
@Ozunoda
@Ozunoda 21 күн бұрын
I've no doubt he could pull off 'serious adult Dumbledore', the problem would be whether the films could over time naturally change the character from Harry's perspective. Like by Goblet and Phoenix you already need to believe this cozy grandpa can scare the shit out of Barty Crouch and Cornelius Fudge, and then by the end of Deathly Hallows you understand that, actually, this guy had been a manipulative dickhead since before Harry met him.

@@Ozunoda Maybe it's because my grandmother is both the kindest and scariest person I've ever met, but I have no doubt he could have pulled it off. Or, well, dad raising his voice when he usually never does so. It's when the actions happen that go against what you're used to that makes the unsettling discomfort hit all the harder. Because you realize they aren't the cuddly teddy bear you've gotten used to, and have to realize that despite their familiar exterior, these are human beings. Looking at the familiar in a new light. It wasn't a knock on you, to be clear. Just that it's a fandom sentiment I never quite understood. I do quite like your video, though (for one, you have a balanced perspective I find refreshing over folks on reddit who scream about one side or the other). And will be watching the next ones. :D

@@widowmaker4976 It's one of the things I'm most interested to see how they approach in the HBO series; who they'll cast and whether they can pull off cosy grandpa becoming scary grandpa. Though I have a feeling they'll have a hard enough time shaking the iconography of the films that it'll all come across as weird. Thanks for watching :)

@@kahlilbtYup. I dislike Rowling, but the misinformation regarding the statement is irritating. What was dumb about her statement regarding it, is that she claims she never said what skin colour hermione has (which may be true, I dont care enough to check, but if she was black it makes her treatment during GoF eegarding SPEW even worse.

@@WinterPains From what I remember, Hermione in the book is described at one point having her cheeks "flush pink" which rules out anything other than Caucasian by blunt inference. For her characters, Rowling enjoys on the nose naming convention and simple descriptions to, combined, heavily infer without much necessary debate on character race. Cho Chang being anything other than Chinese in ethnicity is exceedingly unlikely, another would be Snape's "sallow, pale" complexion as described being anything other than Caucasian. Naturally, it helps that Rowling, paraphrasing "thought of Alan Rickman" when first creating the character in her head. Using the aforementioned method, we immediately know the ethnicity of McGonagall from this quote in the very first book: "Harry watched Hagrid getting redder and redder in the face… finally kissing Professor McGonagall on the cheek, who, to Harry’s amazement, giggled and *blushed*, her top hat lopsided." As much as I love the books, it's a little frustrating that Rowling was retroactively vague about character ethnicities she had already described in her very own original published material.

draco is the more compelling charater than Harry. he actually is violently abused by his father. harry has no depth as a character. as a writer, I don't tlike any of the characters in harry potter are poorly written. chris Columbus is a studio hack, there is no creativity in directing or cinematography. it's bland.. there's nothing good about the source material and films except for acting.
