Randomly popped up in my reccomended. Im a film major and far from being good at actually reading philsophy content on my own. But man i took one philosophy class in community college and then took every philospphy class i could afterwards and joined three clubs. I never remember anything regarding terms or specific people. But man i love the conversations people have talking about philosophy. And this is incredibly helpful for someone like me who just likes dipping my toes in this area and wants to include it in my work eventually in film.

Parker, I did take a long look at John Frame's work you mentioned early in the video, and ordered it. Thanks. I spotted Rushdoony's The One and the Many (1971) sitting in my library. I tried reading it again, but find it difficult. His mind seems to flow with meta thoughts, but with fragments, difficult to those novices less familiar with the sweep of philosophical history. Taking a second look at the Table of Contents, it would seems the books was an assemblage of his mental musings on a vast array of subjects. Either RJR or some editor did a good job of weaving in together. But it still seem fragmented to me.

Great suggestions! My two cents on the Free Will books is anything by Al Mele. He’s brilliant. He has a dialogue that is a great introduction and “Free Will and Luck” is a very clear book IMO.

In the Logic section Ive found that so many books are poorly written but Peter Godfrey Smith's [EDIT -- Peter Smith, "Godfrey Smith" is the author of that book on Octopus brains lol] books explain things so clearly and he has lots of his books available as free pdfs on his website

The best philosophy of language book I've read is Colin McGinn's -- that one goes really unrecognised but its the clearest Ive read on most of the topics. Fwiw I found Morriss' Phil of Lang book (that Joe mentioned) fairly unclear in some places! Personal opition Naming and Necessity is the worst philosophy book Ive ever read - I hate it so much, especially given that its the "most influential" book in modern philosophy, yuck!

10 min in I’ll try to come back to this video because I really am enjoying. A couple things I noticed Graylings history of philosophy is shamefully bad on actual history of early Christianity, he falls for 19th century propaganda Tom Holland pointed that in a debate with him. I really like Frame but struggle with his view on creationism. The pro and con on Frame is that he is giving the fly over stock standard non nuanced view of the philosophers and runs out of space with the recent philosophers of our time.
