one cannot be sure because it was so short, but it how the master-slave dialectic was described it is the opposite of what it really was. The slave develops his self, while the master fails, because he does not get recognition from a self that he regards as independent.

Hegel was wrong in almost all of his major positions, but I think his is a case of a powerful intelligence misapplied, so he was more fool than idiot--"Idiot" implies a lack of intellectual capacity. As to Hegel being a grifter, well, the most effective con men are often the most convinced believers in their own nonsense.

Check out Brandom’s “Spirit of Trust.” It is an unusual reading of Hegel, but it contextualizes him within contemporary problems of epistemology and semantics. I still haven’t made my mind up about Hegel. I strongly feel that his prose style is indefensible. The argument that someone is simply too genius to be intelligible seems easily refuted by clear communicators as different as Nietzsche and the Buddha.

Hegel, pelo.menos teoricamente, chegou a suspender o dualismo ao descrever dialeticamente as etapas reais da divisão entre a razão e a realidade como não passando cada uma de ser a outra do seu ponto de vista: Todo real e racional e todo racional real. Ou: não há nada que não tenha sua razão de ser e nenhuma razão que não seja de algo real... Perceber essa identidade e o objetivo da filosofia assim como ela é o resultado dessa conciliação. Por isso também que a filosofia é sempre retrospectiva e só pode começar pelo fim. Nas palavras dele: A ave da Minerva [ a coruja ] só levanta voo ao anoitecer. Ou seja, depois que o dia terminou ou chegou ao fim. O filósofo não tem bola de cristal e não prescreve o futuro.
