In the second part of Cross-Stitching 101 I pick up right where I left off and discuss thinking ahead and the importance of making decisions in your stitching ahead of time. When working with a pattern it can definitely help things go a lot smoother!

I watched a few how to cross stitch videos earlier, and they barely taught me anything, no techniques, no tips. In one video she even said as long as you can make an X with thread then you can do it. Which was not helpful haha. Your videos describe the little details and actually teach you how to do it properly.

Glad I was able to make sense to you, lol. I'm the type of person that can hear, or read, how to do something and not get it, but if I watch someone else do it I pick it right up, and that's what I try to do for everyone else.

Yup some people don't feel comfortable with too simple explanations and they want to basically be told how to do it and other people just like discovering for themselves and it's nice that there's something for everyone!

Thank you so much for this and your previous tutorial! I told a friend I wanted to try cross stitch, and she gave me a small kit similar to this one, but it has about 5 colors. You answered just about EVERY question I had. I didn't want to start it, mess up, have to undo, or waste my floss. I will be watching these over and over until I get the hang of it! I'm glad this is still here 4 years after you made it! God Bless

Sorry about the flipping being so annoying. I started doing it that way just because I usually have a difficult time seeing where my needle is going to come through if I'm not looking right at it. I'll try to make it less dizzying in future videos though!

Do you flip all of the crosstitch that you do or just this beginner pattern. I find it more confusing because you are flipping to the back
@inhaledexhaled5460

If you have light on the underside (sunlight in a well lit room) you can easily see the holes and just visually put the needle back up and through without the flip :)

Hey Phil! I am so excited that you’re doing these videos! Ive only met one other guy who did cross stitching, and I hate to admit, but he was so much better than me, hands down. Even though I had started when I was 8, he obviously had a better teacher! 😁 When he looked at the back of my work, he was surprised to see how messy everything looked, and from then on, I became what I called “a strategic stitcher”! Hahaha! So, I started giggling and got really excited when you talked about strategic stitching!! I was thinking to myself, “SWEET! I’m not the only one who does that, too!! Are you going to teach anymore about cross stitching and the terms of “parking your floss”? Or any techniques on how to do French knots, stem stitches or anything like that? I’m sad I just discovered these videos. You’re probably not doing these anymore. 😢

Useful ideas about planning ahead and well explained. But oh that video! All that flipping to back then front then back... My head hurts! I find it's generally not too difficult to find my way through the correct hole from the back, so the pattern is (usually) facing me all the time. It's also less confusing, for me at least. Thoughts?
@PhilsNextKick
@PhilsNextKick 5 жыл бұрын
I think it is less confusing for a lot of people not to flip while stitching, I just personally find it easier for myself. It may be because a lot of the locations I stitch in don't have the best lighting and if I don't flip I'm just guessing where to bring my needle back through, and that can be quite frustrating to me.

Why don't you recommend doing one stitch at a time? Does it just save time typically or is there another reason?
@PhilsNextKick
@PhilsNextKick 5 жыл бұрын
To me it at least feels like it saves more time and possibly uses less floss by doing rows instead of one stitch at a time. It's also easier for me to lock in the loose ends that way.
