But then again, for the rich folks it might be dire. And they’ll move on because they can afford it. But for us working class folks, we’ll be here to maintain the city (what we can do at least) until the next wave. And as sure as there is resilience in people, there will always be good coffee right around the corner.

The tech boom was in the early 2000s… the crisis happening in the city was within this decade. It’s government policies not the tech industry. In fact if it weren’t for the tech industry there would be far less money going into the city. I like to hate on what the industry has done to culture as much as you believe me but this is not one of them
@chefjonsf
@chefjonsf Жыл бұрын
I hear your point. To clarify, when I referenced the tech boom, I was pointing out (badly) at how people from that industry just up and went. It was their right to, of course but partly because the cost of doing business here became too great. People too their ideas elsewhere, or saw that their money could work much longer outside of the city. I was also referring to how the city during the tech boom, whether due to policy or capitalism, helped to displace much of the culture that embodied San Francisco. And here in this piece is the last few remnants of a popular culture rooted in San Francisco. Again, I see your point. My opinion is strong but loosely held.

Philz is a chain store these days with 60 locations around the Bay Area (see video), which is a pretty good track record, right? The 24th Street store in the video has been a dump for years, and the Philz management decided not to renew the lease. That's it.

Phil’s family owns that building, so “lease” is in their control LOL. They just don’t want to invest in that run down property, and the cafe needed a cash infusion as it had many issues (per employees that worked there.) I think it’s a short sighted and money grubbing move. They should invest in their original location and help anchor the troubled mission district. The more business cut bait, the worse the mission will get :( But Phil only cares about the money and fakes his love for this city (which made him rich BTW)…fake-poser-POS

Worked for Philz in the past, while I loved most of my coworkers and manager, the regional managers make promises, don't keep them, they rarely repair things and have more interest in opening new stores in LA and Chicago than keeping existing ones here in working order. Conflict resolution and tardiness are dealt with kid gloves and it repeats itself over and over till good emoployees quit. I hate to see a staple of our community go, but it's time for something else to bring business to the neighborhood. One that can keep its employees and customers safe.

Valencia st from 16th to 21st is horrible now that SFMTA reconfigured the streets for bike lanes. Nowhere to park, gridlock if one sharecar ride or uber eats double park. Now they depend on metermaids to enfoece them blocks for traffic flows
@TIKAL415
@TIKAL415 Жыл бұрын
Finally someone else that sees the root of the problem. By the way, that gridlock extends all the way to 23rd St. And if that isn't bad enough the dumbfcuks in the City Planning Department also decided to no longer allow left turns on Valencia. Now we have bike lanes that are wider than the lanes for vehicle traffic, but the amount of people riding bicycles are minimal at best. Then they wonder why retail stores and movie theaters are closing all over The City. They really thought that City residents were going to begin to ride bicycles with their families to go shopping or to catch a movie downtown. Fcuken Idiots, thanks for ruining what was once one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Not much missed in my opinion. Philz is overpriced coffee and I never spent a dime there and do not plan to in the future as well.

Philz coffee is nothing special, in no way is anywhere worth its price. Their personality is fake unless maybe you come everyday, which makes the service process unnecessary. Just take orders like everyone else, no need to assign us a barista and station for a simple cup of coffee. They're not reinventing service in any way, they just want more tips and to act like they're selling you something special. Even the Starbucks customers think their prices are expensive and excessive. His son owns the building, literally no reason to listen to Philz lies in this piece. Garbage pail owner with his trash coffee just wants money and that's it.
