In this video, I show you how to build a compact starter house with everything you need whilst in the early stages of the game. The build itself includes 24+ storage chests, a maximum level workbench, a maximum level forge, a cooking area, and a sleeping area. This build should be useful for any new players or players who want some extra inspiration for their own builds. This build should be easy to construct on PC and Xbox.

6-700 hours myself, and there's a lot of tricks in here that i never even thought of. I love the raised bed. Do you have much problem with it glitching..like getting stuck, or havinf trouble getting into it?

These compact structures are the ones I usually like to build. It's big enough to store most of the stuff from early to mid game but not so big you just have an empty house with random stuff strewn in corners. Great build once again.

I completely agree. These are the kind of structures I like to build in my survival worlds too. I prefer the look of many smaller buildings, rather than a singular large one. Although, they are more difficult to defend in practice. Thanks for your continued support!

Thanks for the video. I built this in my first playthrough, I just started playing about a week ago. I was so enthusiastic about building it that i absolutely decimated the forest round about my house and was really happy when i finished it. Only problem was that i had this beautiful house in the middle of a featureless wasteland. Oops. I've started over since i hadnt made much progress in the game anyway. I learned a whole lot about building in Valheim from following your video though. Now ive built a different but similar house that incorporates a lot of the stuff i learned from this video but also some of my own ideas. Different layout, same windows, got a front porch on it lol. And all built from random branches on the ground or the wood i got from demolishing abandoned shacks. I know I'll probably have to fuck up the surroundings to some extent when i get around to building a huge main base but for now this cosy wee house will serve me well till i get around to killing the first boss or two. Good stuff! I am really glad I could help you pick up a few of the basics. There is no need to copy my designs piece by piece, just take what you wish and change the rest. Regarding the environment around your base, as you progress, you will gain access to tools which will allow you to have a bit more control over the landscape and foliage. Good luck with your first playthrough. I wish I could experience it for the first time all over again!

I am certainly not a fan of cheats as using them can really ruin the game experience. However! I do think spawning in tree seeds is a good idea. Some of the trees just don't drop enough seeds to do a nice job of replanting. It would be nice if you could buy extra seeds in-game, including some berry bushes to put in the garden.

I've only just started valheim recently, and only yesterday ventured towards the swamp area - I didn't realise the amount I had to do just to build with stone 😅😅 great game though, and our bases look pretty similar 😂

This is fking perfect, i just recently got back in the game, so i decided to start over (wasnt rly advanced anyway). To get to the boss i had to use a boat since its on the other side of the "sea", decided to build myself a dock with a decent but rather small and good looking house, you managed to use the interior soooo well wow, it looked tiny af when finished building just the house without completing the interior. But with the interior somehow it seems 2x bigger and cozy af. Perfect... Just perfect...

This is commitment! If I have something to give you as a reward, I would! Honestly, I cannot remember if the stairs in my design experience wet damage. Although, if they do, I would either extend the roof or remove the adjacent floor pieces and move them in slightly! This should solve any issues that you might have. Thanks for your support!

You probably need to raise the ground beneath the fire. If that doesn’t work, try switching your bed and storage areas. This should resolve the issue!

The roof in the cross part of the house is bothering the hell outta me in my game lmao. For some reason, I can't get it to snap into that diamond hole.

I think that the cross at the top creates the snap points for the cross in the middle of the diamond section. Hope this helps but let me know if it doesn't and I can try to think of some other ways around it! Thanks for your comment.

Perfect. Yes, the distance between the bed and the fire can be a little temperamental at times. I am glad you found a solution that works for you though!

This can happen from time to time. You can either edge your bed and the nearest campfire closer until they are within reach, or switch the bed position to the side nearest the campfire and put the storage on the opposite side. Hope this helps!

I would build the roof ridge components in the centre of the roof then work outwards. This way you should be able to snap onto the edge of the piece placed in the centre. Hope this helps. If not, I can try and help further if you provide screenshots in the Discord server!

I think there may be a slight problem between PC and Xbox. There are people who have no issues and others who do. I recommend switching the bed and the storage wall positions, so that the bed is closest to the fire. I hope this helps!

That’s weird. It should work. Try to inch your bed and fire slightly closer together. If you’re still having issues, swap the bed and storage system so that they’re on opposite sides! Hope this helps!

I would recommend raising the ground beneath the campfire slightly and moving the bed slightly closer to the fire. The distance between the bed and the campfire must be right on the extents of range. If this does not work, you may need to swap the positions of the bed and the storage area. I hope this helps.

This has happened to quite a few people. Your bed will be slightly too far from the campfire. You should slowly edge the campfire and bed closer together until it works! Hope this helps!

What is the benefit of having the floor 1m off of the ground? Doesn't that make it less stable by having an additional piece between the base and the ground?

Technically, yes - I just like the way it looks. It will make it less stable but the structure itself isn't too high so it does not matter in this case. After unlocking stone, you can place stone floor pieces in the gap to increase the stability again. Hope this helps!

I could be wrong (I just started playing about a week ago) but I'm thinking maybe the top row of storage containers might not fit if you just used the regular 2m tall walls. Not the end of the world obviously. Or maybe they'd fit but poke through the roof?

@@kinnusai4432 I think it should be fine but I have been wrong in the past. You can always swap out the low angled thatched roof for a 45 degree roof component if you prefer.

You can either swap the snapping type to a corner or just remove the top cross, place the thatched roof, and replace the cross. I hope this helps!

That is really interesting, I must have missed that in the patch notes. I will try it out today! I am not sure why you are unable to sleep, it worked for me - campfires should provide the fire effect for around 3-4 tiles. I would try to squeeze the bed and nearest campfire a little closer but if that doesn’t work, place the bed unit on the side nearest the fire and put the storage system on the opposite side! In the early stages of the game, it is probably best to find clusters of trees within close proximity to each other. This way, when you cut one down, it is likely it will impose damage on some of the nearby trees. This means that they won't require as many chops compared to full health trees. Hope this helps!

I'm glad you liked it. Regarding the use of iron and obsidian, I explain in the video that these are late-game items but I use them to demonstrate that even maximum level workbenches and forges can fit in this small starter build. If you subtract those late-game items the build still functions exactly as intended. However, if people would like to use this as an outpost build later then it can be done!

I recommend that you raise the ground beneath your campfire slightly. It appears that this is a common solution. Otherwise, you may need to swap your storage and bed areas to have your bed closer to the campfire. I hope this helps!

I've built this house but my bed is too far from the fire and I can't sleep. I've tried to move the fireplace a bit closer to the bed but still the game says that I need a fire to sleep. I solved the issue building another fireplace at the entrance of the house. But I think it's worth to mention it just in case you want to do some fix to the build

Good question. Honestly, at the start of the game I just kind of place them anywhere outside. However, as I progress, I start to build dedicated buildings for them. There are a few examples on my channel where I show arrangements for kilns, forges, and smelters!

I recommend making sure that all of your foundation pieces are full strength (blue when hovered over with the hammer). Alternatively, you can raise the ground slightly beneath your structure. I hope this helps!

You can either move your bed slightly closer to the campfire or raise the ground beneath the campfire slightly. This should resolve your issue. If not, swap your bed and storage so that your bed is on the same side as the campfire!

Thank you - that is exactly what I set out to achieve! Regarding the floors, it is something I’ve used in the past and like but I just chose not to do it on this build. It’s a nice little addition if you can be bothered to do it. Thanks for your comment!

I am not sure why that happens. The design works for some and not for others. Try to edge the bed and campfire slightly closer together. If that still does not work, you may need to move the bed to the wall nearest the fire and place the storage where the bed used to be. Hope this helps!

@@phinqs I found the problem, the bed was to high and the campfires were to low on the fire pith. I put the chests that are meant to be under the bed on the side :D

I keep hearing about the bed being too far away. It worked perfectly for me. I have recommended that others move the bed and campfire slightly closer together (campfires have a max distance of 3-4 tiles for the fire effect). If this does not work, swap the bed to the side nearest the fire and place the storage on the other side. Hope this helps!

How do you raise the ground for the fireplace? Mine won’t raise to my floor level

If your floor won’t raise whilst using the hoe’s “level ground” command, you may need to first “raise ground” and then level the ground back downwards. This happens sometimes when there is too much space between the existing and desired level. Hope this helps!

buildi in this game is biggest pain in the ass. I cant place that floor 2x2 like you do and im doing everything like in tutorial.

The building takes a little time to get used to. I would recommend utilising the snapping point cycle if you aren't already. I hope this helps!

This happens sometimes. I have found the best solution is to either move the bed slightly closer to the campfire or to raise the ground beneath the campfire. Otherwise, you will need to swap your storage and bed areas so that your bed is closer to the campfire. I hope this helps!

If you actually listen to the video, you will realise that I explain some items are included within the build to demonstrate that there is enough space to support you as you progress slightly further into the game. Otherwise, you would be forced to expand your base every time you unlocked something new!

You just need to edge the bed slightly closer to the campfire. It has happened with many people but I have tested it myself and it definitely works! You can also switch the bed area with the storage area. Hope this helps!
