I remember traveling in Italy on a High School trip in 98. I brought my journal and a CD (yes a CD) that had ALL my favorite live YEMs on it. I'd listen to it on the bus between cities trying to channel Trey and Fishman on their trip to Italy when this masterpiece was scribed. I then understood the freedom and creativity they had when you totally immerse yourself into a different culture and let it release emotions within you that you didn't know you had. We finished that trip in Florence (where the Uffizi gallery is). I ditched my classmates for an afternoon and wandered the alleys there and found a pawn shop serving espressos. A couple espressos later for the free spirited 18 year old me and I left with a $100 nylon string guitar. I walked back to the Uffizi Square and saw a group of travelers singing along to a guitar player, so I lifted my guitar with the universal head nod of "may I join" Turns out the guitar player was from my exact state (NH) back in the USA. We dropped into playing "No Woman No Cry" so that EVERYONE could comprehend the language of Bob Marley. Within minutes there had to be 100s of travelers from ALL over the world singing along with us. Later that year, I used this experience to write my college application essay and was granted early acceptance to UVM in Burlington VT for the class of 98. I'm 42 NOW and this experience is forever engrained in my heart, mind and soul. Thank you PHISH for being a magical weaver of life experiences that has transcended space time since my first show in 95.

@danostyli5142 жыл бұрын
Has to be?? He IS the most underrated drummer.. Fishman’s playing is adaptable to any genre of music and often sounds as if there just has to be multiple drummers involved (when listening w/out video).. but it’s just the one and only. The energy it takes to play certain sections is truly unimaginable sometimes and he plays them so smoothly ..this mf is an incredible talent and once in a lifetime opportunity, as you can say that pretty much about any other member of this quartet ✌️🔥

Phish broke curfew to play this for us, closing out an incredible 3 night run. Heading into Set 2, we all thought we were getting a YEM...we were due. As curfew started to come closer, they played Hood > Cavern and we all thought, perfect, plenty of time to get of stage, come back and finish this weekend of with a proper YEM... but then after Cavern they went into Bowie. Now I am not one to ever complain about a Bowie, but this all but sealed the deal for a short quick encore. Still an amazing weekend. They came back on stage at about 11:55pm. When they busted into YEM, the place exploded. This YEM probably cost them $15,000 - $20,000.

I was reading an article about the ten classic rock bands that sounded better live than on a studio recording and because I'd stopped listening to rock music after transitioning to r&b vocal groups, I decided to listen to this selected song by Phish and became an instant fan. From 12:05 - 15:35 is some of the best type I jamming I've ever heard. Maybe not as whimsical and exploratory as their most creative jam excursions, but I'll be damned if that's not some of the best guitar Trey has ever played. Tasteful, patient, dynamic. I'll never get over how transformative and narrative his best improvisational work is. There's something almost plot-driven about it, full of conflicts and resolutions, lulls and climaxes, melodic characters and themes that return and reference each other throughout -- he builds a story through tone, melody, and the dynamics that weave them together. The debate on best players or best improvisers of all time is endless and totally moot - but for my money, no one in the world can build and release musical tension on guitar quite like Trey!

+CHFilms So many awesome different influences. I listen to a lot of metal and progressive music, and when I first heard Phish I didn't like them at all. I found them boring. But tons of my friends were into them and ass my musical tastes broadened, I eventually starting realizing that there was something there for me. I was intrigued by the melding of multiple genres and the progression of these epic jams. A lot of my favorite bands are all bands that became an acquired taste and rewarded repeat listens, and Phish turned out to be the same deal. I heard a few more tunes a few years later and noticed the infectious groove in their jams, then I watched a live video of Carrini and have been hooked form there! That is the song that sold me!
