Scarlet Begonias is one of my favorite Dead songs, thank you for posting this! There are probably very few people that have heard this before this opportunity. Phish rocks, even 30 years ago. I was only 8 years old when this was recorded and I love it! I am a Dead Head; however PHISH is my favorite band! I only got to see Jerry Garcia play once, and it was a great show, but every PHISH show that I have seen has blown my mind... the talent that these musicians have harnessed is indescribable!

I wonder if Trey thought about moment last night as he played it in front of 80k people, with the meembers of the band who wrote it :)

everyone's gotta start somewhere! Of great significance to this recording is that just 4 days later, the Jerry Garcia Band were playing the Flynn Theater in Burlington; Trey and the Dude Of Life found Jerry's hotel room and slipped a Stanley Jordan LP under the door. He grabbed it and gave a nasal-y "Thanks". A proverbial passing of the torch.

I can't count how many awesome people I've had the opportunity to meet along the way traveling all over place because of this band of brothers. And best of all, it feels like you're surrounded by your best friends every time you visit a new place. Thank you.

Every band that has ever had a first gig can relate to this - and clearly playing dead covers was "instrumental" to their success! I really enjoyed hearing 1983 Phish....thanks for posting!

Just blows my mind how this was the first ever show they put on! Right on! I really like both this cover & the original version of course! I'm fan of both bands! I dig this thanks for posting this!

As a young aspiring musician, I find this very inspiring. My band played our first show earlier this year and we sounded about as good as this does. Maybe we'll be playing alpine and red rocks in 15 years, only time will tell. Lol

I always always love this. Makes me think of way back when they started. I wasn’t there, and wasn’t born yet - but you don’t need to be to hear the beauty of this. I’m so glad you posted this. And FYI - trey says they were never called Blackwood convention lol :)

I think this... this is... or is very close to... the version of Fire On The Mountain I have been searching for for years... One step closer... I'm looking for some version that is basically a, If I remember, 9:30 version of Fire that is just the longest most amazing solo ever of all time. I don't even know if it was Phish but this guitar effect says it was and now I have a year to start searching around. THANK YOU!
