I love people who come here to comment about how much they dislike Phish. They must have a cool alter ego that makes them listen to Phish because I personally don't make a habit of listening to music I don't like and taking the time to comment on it. That's just weird man. And I know weird, I love Phish. Show Day!

Keyboard player gets that vintage Clavinet sound-funky. Gotta love a band that achieves this high level of syncopation in their music.

The chairman of the boards gets it done! Funny that you mention syncopation, because this version has some of my absolute favorite clav syncopation ever. So tight, so funky

I just recently found Robert Palmer’s cover of “Sneaking Sally Through the Alley,” and the first thought that came to mind was: “This is funky; it would make a great Phish cover.” And lo, Phish has been covering it for years - just not at any of the shows I have been at.

I remember seeing Trey play super jam at the State Palace Theater in New Orleans, and Mike was playing a 4am show at the Twi Ropa,so we knew Mike would show up at Treys show. They played this. Not a phish song, but a song familiar to phans. It was the first time they played together after 2.0 breakup. Probably my favorite phish moment although it wasn't actually a phish moment. We just never thought we'd see them play together again. But they did. And it happened in New Orleans. It was prefect. The lineup that night was so tight.

I really don't understand all the haters. "Our cover is better than the original version", said no one ever. Bands cover songs to pay respect to great artists and influences, not to trump the original version. Grow up everybody! Robert Palmer covered this song as well, he didn't write it.

Tbh they used to be my favorite band. Now when I listen there are elements I love and elements I loath. So I’m half hate listening and half loving it. They are so weird. There are moments where they sound so dry and let’s be honest, they aren’t great singers (Trey actually sounds pretty good here though). They sometimes have awful lyrics. Then they have these mind blowing instrumental moments both composed and improv. What a weird ass band. Seen them 5 times. Seen some of their side projects live too. Hard not to wonder what was up with Mike and that girl thing. Also saw him walking around St John’s wearing his weird socks was tempted to go hug him but he was with his family.

music is groovin'....vocals are lame.....I realize fanboys of jam-bands don't give a shit about vocals (I give you The Greatful Dead) but that's really what's missing here. It's a vocal performance completely bereft of soul...something both Lowell and Palmer had in spades.

My Phish head friends always try and preach the gospel of Phish to me. I have been to Three shows. They are middling at best, sure they can play but they capture none of the soul and groove of their covers. This track is a perfect example. Yeah it's cool they do deep cover tracks, but this one almost sounds like a joke. Trey's choppy Jerryesque guitar does nothing for the funk groove of the track. Idk maybe it's just me but I find little listening pleasure here. Think I'll go back and listen to Palmer's original again.
@mutoneon3 жыл бұрын
You’re so stuck on singular studio recordings that you’ve closed yourself off to an entire band for having the nerve to play music you’re familiar with. A wise man once remarked that “Comparison is the thief of joy.” What do you think?
