Exactly my thoughts. I understand what they were trying to do at the end with the boss battle, but it wasn’t really executed right. Although I still enjoyed it, and the other stuff of the game made up for it. I think the reason why they rushed it was because 3 of the main devs leaving and some fans hype, excitement and pressuring. Plus this was their first time doing a boss battle so it’s understandable to why it was executed like that, but they still should have made it easier at least. I just hope chapter 4 will be better.

His characterisation is immaculate, diving into themes of religion and dependency in a manner that makes him feel almost real.. not to mention his death, while a bit less gruesome than some people would’ve hoped, perfectly reflects these themes. Too bad his final confrontation is boring at best, and we rarely encounter him throughout the game.

Dead characters cutouts pretty much always end in static, characters living are sometimes incomprehensible white noise or have moments where they try and warn you about something

it's painfully simple and the game walks you through exactly what to do and you already know all the mechanics it's just making you do shit quickly. Phil only had problems because he didn't pay attention to the fucking instructions and got confused with switching hands despite them only being 3 fucking buttons. I love him but watching him play the boss fight pissed me off so fucking much. A child could figure it out in half the time he did.

i played this a few days after it released, and i have no idea what people mean by the boss fight at the end feeling rushed. it honestly worked really well for what it was going for, catnap having fake versions due to the smoke, slowly running out of batteries one by one, all to finally deal with the scariest part of this game so far by zapping him so hard he catches fire. its a brilliant send off for the best chapter yet, and the ending cutscene with you and poppy slowly going down the lift while kissy fights for her life? man what a good ending.

I have to say solid chapter, tho the ending “boss” feels very unpolished/unfinished. I think some very easy improvements can be made to it, such as an indicator at the cutscene where Catnap gets electrocuted because I didn’t even know you could die at that part, not to mention the whole game the cutscenes were “safe” so doing that was such a strange decision. Overall 85% of the chapter was phenomenal, but the rest…Yeah def needs some form of improvement. Also I have to say Catnap being the main villain of the chapter is such an odd thing considering he barely does much of anything during the chapter, which is also why that boss fight at the end felt really shoehorned in for me when I played.

It's odd how little attention was put into CatNap as a threat seeing how much of the promotional material was about him, I know that a good way to bring fear is to not show-off the monster but in those cases there's often the ominous feeling of danger for it I can imagine it was to make the teacher and DogDay's sections a surprise but I think you could still come up with something more than just the very last section

Phil, how do you feel about people connecting the number of cribs/implied infants/toddlers from the orphanage to the tiny critters you have to shoot? The implications are that the infants and toddlers were turned into the tiny critters who not only serve to help Catnap, but also ate the Smiling Critters. The way they crawl to their sounds and cries mimicking babies. I think it's very Dead Space: baby in the laundry machine, all of the vats and now they're hunting Isaac Clark as the one necromorph I can't remember the name of, but always screamed when seeing because I have major uncanny valley with babies/toddlers/children and those things creeped me out further. They took those terrifying things and shoved them into stuffed toys "and in return they were fed."

Now, I don't know shit about Unreal Engine or how it works, but wouldn't that mean that those chapters are on a newer version of Unreal Engine? I honestly don't know, but it's worth a shot trying to play those chapters now.

Yeah, the game fell apart at the end, but the rest was great, Poppyplaytime got elevated a lot from the disaster of Chapter 1 and 2, good stream Phil... wait, what about Boxy Boo?

Chapter 3 is overall a fantastic game but the ending really does hold it back. Unfortunately that seems to be a standard with indee/mascot horror these days which is really upsetting.
