I suspect the show's producers think that audiences have a short attention span and can't cope when there's no singing. Radio DJs sometimes talk over guitar solos. It can be a blessing, but most of the time (like this) it's just irritating.

I feel this way about my best friend who is dating an old friend of mine. I fell out of touch with the friend and started talking to my best friend more and we’ve talked every day since.
