"The End" is not a discrete event. One good sign would be if cities stop being able to offer fresh water, sewer, and electric service. But generally a collapse is visible only in retrospect. It happens very slowly, almost imperceptibly, and then all at once. Like dying old.

The country sound at the end is a nice nod to Bo’s “pandering” song because the song “That Funny Feeling” is totally a real country song. It rejects the the over development of society for a more close-to-nature close-to-self view of the world. Capped off with the bittersweet realization that whatever imminent danger looms, there is hope afterwards

totally reminded me of Nirvana's Unplugged album, Bo's campfire acoustic-bummer singalong. I thought Phoebe's live and recorded-single versions went in a nicely different Yankee Hotel Foxtrot sorta way, especially the buildup to the beautifully gloomy singalong outro.
