She had a one in a million sound...and she thwarted a great career because she refused to institutionalize her tragic handicapped daughter. Underrated and underappreciated. Love forever❤❤

Thank you Harri! Just can’t get enough of this one. I wonder how she got the haunting, wispy backing vocals. I think, perhaps it’s Phoebe herself on a second track. However it was done, it’s magnificent. This song inspired me to write poetry.

Ms, Snow was part of that special breed: the 70s singer/songwriter. I was 19 when Poetry Man was released, and I became a fan.Harry, you may know this, but that was Phoebe Snow on acoustic. Cheers

I have always loved this song but now sometimes it makes me well up, especially after reading her biography. So sad that she is already gone. As I age it really saddens me with each passing day that another great singer from my youthful days has passed. Now I understand my father who sadly remarked "Oh damn" when Buster Keaton passed--a star of his childhood, to me it meant nothing at the time, but now I understand.

The only thing I regret about getting old is seeing beautifully gifted artists like Phoebe Snow no longer with us. I can only find solace in listening to the music she left for us. Those of us that have grown up during the 1970's were blessed with an unusual number of women singer/song writers. Laura Nyro Minnie Riperton Phoebe Snow Joni Mitchell Janis Ian Carole King Judy Collins Rickie Lee Jones Forgive me if I left anyone off this list.

I'm so thrilled you came back to Phoebe tonight Harri. After mentioning this song in my comment last night, it hasn't left my mind. This was the 2nd song she wrote, about her relationship with a married man. It was her first charting song and made it Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her beautiful vocals are so addictive and heavenly. Very memorable just like Minnie Riperton and Roberta. So lucky to have been around for this music originally. Glad you enjoyed Harri. Thanks Harri and Michael. Such a dreamy choice. 👏👏🎶🎶💎💎 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Thanks for the reaction on this. Her acoustic guitar playing is not mentioned much. She was such a beautiful soul and had no peers. The lady could hold a note longer than any other singer. Listen to the 2008 Live at Woodstock concert album. There are a couple of songs on it where she holds a really long note. One is Piece of My Heart. It is on KZbin. I saw her in concert two times in the 70's and she was really good. She's studied opera for a number of years and she would have been great at it because of her four octave range and breath control. I knew the person she was studying with and they said she had more raw talent than anyone they had ever worked with onstage. She is greatly missed

Loved your reaction, & yet this song always feels a little sad. Maybe because I know a bit of her story. As far as Poetry Man, she's singing as the voice of the side piece, not as the main woman or "wife"... & it feels like she's being thankful for the time they can spend together.... those sweet poetic moments that always have to end. Sad. But great song!

I've put this on my list every month but trade it out for another song. It's one of a kind. If you isolate the guitars it sounds like a nick drake song. Phoebe's main drive to write and sing was because she had had a crush on a boy. Go Phoebe
