Parking in a Disabled Parking space withour displaying a Disability Card. Begining in October 2024 in New Zealand. Fine goes up, from NZ$50 to a wonderful NZ$700. Though it is up to our local councils to enforce. We are all watching our council, to see if "they" get it right.

My Maternal Uncle is disabled so this makes me angry. I may not be physically disabled but I have level 1 Autism so when people do something wrong to someone with any type of disability, physical, developmental, learning, or psychological it makes me hot under the collar. So I would appreciate it if others without disabilities treat us like humans that we are worth the same amount of respect as them.

In Florida, parking a non-handicap vehicle in a hashed handicapped zone earns a driver TWO $250 parking tickets. One is for parking in a handicap parking zone without a placard or tag, the second is for improper parking within a handicap parking zone. Got to watch that happen where I worked one day. I also knew the LEO who worked that area, and she LOVED ticketing handicap parking violators. The lady got $500 in tickets that day.

Problem is, people with that damn plaque pull in the van spot even with 10 other places available, because its closer, the van wont go in the other handicap spot and allow the lift to sit beside it so a wheelchair user can exit, remember that when parking!

In part, this issue is because most city agencies do not do their job enforcing the laws protecting the disabled, no priority is assigned to correct or enforce the law. Large fines, towing, these actions can make money to pay for enforcement. If tickets were made payable when people get their car sticker, people would have no choice but to pay or no sticker, and another ticket and fine. It can be a real legitimate moneymaker for a city and protect the innocent

At the Walmart down the street from my house, there are 12 accessible spots, and they are ALWAYS full. Only about half of them have plates or placards, and about half of those run in and out of the store in a full sprint with all of their friends.

Each space should have its own hash space, sometimes people need the extra space that doesn’t line up with what you or I may think they need. My Dr’s office has a space that has hash marked area on the driver’s side and a 8inch tall curb 3inches from the painted line on the passenger side. But the spot has a handicapped parking sign and one that says it’s van accessible.

Was visiting Oklahoma, pulled into parking lot. I noticed a nurse parked in the hash marks of the handicapped spot, also blocking the sidewalk curb cut. I needed to get to bathroom asap, was sick. Couldn't get by her car and had no choice but to vomit on her rear license plate. She ran out yelling and physically assaulted me, dumping me out of my chair. 8 very large choctaw indigenous gentle men came and placed her under arrest. She insisted she had the right to park there because she was a nurse.

We need laws nation wide that force business owners to be accountable in enforcing handicap parking restrictions. As a disabled person, half the spots I see taken have no handicap plates or tags. Then most of the time you have vehicles parked in those striped areas like they're special. I've complained at very stores and other businesses and they all claim it's not their problem. Relying on random enforcement once a decade does nothing. Only option is to use, but that takes time and money. It's even worse these days now that many places have removed handicap spaces for various "pick up" spots.

A standard parking space is 9' wide. Under the ADA, A van-accessible space is 8' wide with an 8' wide hashed area. If someone parks in the hashed area it leaves the handicapped user less space than a standard parking space. Impossible to use with a wheelchair and difficult with a walker.

should be a Country wide Fee of $700 1st time and $1000 then on for parking in disabled parking without Proper plates/placard. Dont let these jerks get away and if they keep using the spots then revoke their license then tow n auction off their vehicle .... they will rethink their stupidity , especially since in drivers ed your taught if your NOT disabled dont park in those spots . Also remember not all disabilities are physical people with bad backs/hips from accidents etc , people with breathing iissues etc those who go thru chemo treatments etc also deserve to park in those spots to make it easier for them.

I am a disabled person who has difficulty getting in and out of my car. I’ve had to park on the hashmarks because a car parked too close to the handicapped spot. I would absolutely be enraged if I got a ticket because some arrogant bastard assumed what my needs were or weren’t. Sometimes parking that far over is necessary. I need a full four feet of clearance to get in and out of my car. My right side is paralyzed from a stroke. The number of times I’ve been harassed in public by people who don’t understand my disability and make assumptions is ridiculous. When somebody with a placard has to park, sometimes they need to park that way for a reason.

I use a power chair and I came out of CVS one day and a car was parked on the white lines blocking the access ramp to get off of the CVS sidewalk. Whether it's 5 minutes or more, blocking me from moving is considered kidnapping, held against my will.

I live near a small town in northern Arizona. (Ash Fork) I love to catch people doing this at two of the small stores/convenience markets here. I get my phone, and take pictures of the car, license plate, and driver if I see them. I've had a few people challenge me and threaten me for taking the pictures. I always respond with "let's go ahead and call the sherriff". Takes the wind out of the argument really quickly! Lol. And if you're concerned about my safety, don't be. I'm a very big guy, and "prepared". (As it were). Great entertainment!!! Lol

People use the hash lined area as handicapped parking at Walmart and the neighborhood market all the time. The areas are painted that way for a reason. NO PARKING. The drivers that do this are not disabled but are too lazy to walk a short distance. And have to be ad close to the a store entrance as possible

The hash marked area is a loading zone, it’s part of the handicap parking spot, YEA FOR THEIR WHEELCHAIRS. $300 is not enough, maybe $500- $1000. When I walked by this suv parked in a hk parking spot. I looked to see if there was a plate or some kind of tag or placard, (none) so I tapped on her hood and asked her to move her car, she commenced to yell to not touch her car, so I walked into the store pulled out my cell phone and called the police. A state trooper was less than a block away. And she loved giving out those types of tickets. I stood there staring at this karen, laughing, I thanked the trooper and glared at the biotch and said, you should have moved.. lol.

You should never park in a handicap parking spot unless you have the proper decals or license plate. I was going into Walgreens All the handicap spots were taken. As I wobbled by I notice none of the cars has any idenication on the front or back for handicap. I generally am noit a Karen person. But I did walk into the store and speak with the manager. He stepped outside.Whne he came back in he announce on the store speaker. If you are parked in a handicapped zone your car will be towed and you will be ticketed $500. With in minutes all the handicap spot was open. I had never seen ever so many spot taken up by non hanicapped people.I guess people think Covid lock down they are handicap.

Sadly you can't take a car and sell it from someone. I do wish once ticketed the car is towed and put into impound. Tickets should be triple in price. Towing a illegally parked from the handicap spot should be triple in price. And finally, impounds storage fees for illegally parked cars in handicap spots should be steep. If people want to disobey the law, get them where it hurts, the pocketbook. No hardships either, just pay the fine.
