Very cool Mcarbo. I have 3 of these and they're great little pistols but the recoil spring is an issue. This is why I love y'all. You make very useful upgrades for guns that aren't just the few major brands. Well done....again

MCARBO @MCarbo I bought the MCarbo for the Phoenix Arms 22, both sets of springs. I got 2 of the 3 in, I can’t get the pin out for the trigger spring. I can get it almost out enough and then it will not go any further ? Any tips ??

I have (and have had in the past) lots of handguns, and the little Phoenix Arms HP22 remains one of my favorites. Incredibly fun to shoot, and of course, economical in this era or outrageous ammo pricing. I have to admit that the second spring (trigger spring) was a killer for me. I couldn't manipulate it with my fat fingers. It was a bit frustrating. In the end it went right into place, as these things often do. The difference with the new spring set is dramatic. I threw a snap-cap in the little .22, and repeatedly dry-fired it. I couldn't believe the difference for so little work. My guess is that people with better dexterity will fare better, and find this a very easy install. Definitely worth the price. Now I love my little Phoenix even more. Kudos to MCARBO!

A tip for there assembly and not fighting to keep the recoil spring in place. Rest the barrel in the slide facing backwards and hold it there while you lock the slide back, alternatively you can use the magazine I just prefer using the barrel.

Not a bad little gun for the price. I like that they actually look decent. Just by looking at them you really can't tell they're inexpensive guns like the Ravens, Bryco, Cobra (and the likes)... and including newer cheaper guns like the Hi Points. They really do look like a fairly well made gun.

My god... Thank you so much for that tip on the recoil spring! This is my first gun and I was struggling so hard to get that spring to stay in there, idk why I didn't think about that hahaha

Just ordered all these springs for my wife’s .25. I’m not gonna lie…when I cleaned it for her recently, that recoil spring gave me hell and I’m pretty sure I bent it a little trying to get it back in. That trick for reinstalling it looks waaay easier. My thirteen year old loves shooting that .25 too. Great little gun and great video 👍🏻

Earned a like and subscribe from me man. I found this gun in pieces recently and I was thinking about ordering the parts to rebuild it. That would never be possible without this. Theoretically yes, I could go by the schematic but nuh uh this video is a time saver. You've helped me so much with this and I really appreciate you going through all the steps for everyone. I was going to go by the schematic too, I realize i would never have figured it out now that I see how it's supposed to be done. Great work good sir it's very much appreciated 👽 Live long and prosper 🖖

Man you really know what you are doing. Great video. With my HP22A I am having an issue and wanted to see if any of your viewers ran across it. My gun works fine but the issue is I cannot insert the magazine without having to press the mag release button. Once you press it and the mag starts moving up if you let go of the release button you can feel a heavy drag on the magazine. It doesn't affect the operation of the gun and I tried it with 3 mags. I took off both plastic grip covers and compared what I see with other peoples videos and I don't see anything bent or warped. I guess what I'm asking is if another part of the gun is causing this issue and not the mag release button? I will send it in for warranty repair but I thought I would ask the community incase someone else has come across this issue. Thanks.

I have two of these pistols in 25 ACP and if I could get them to feed correctly even dumping a little more money into them I would. You should both almost brand new pistols and I bought extra eclipse and I cannot get them to feed correctly. They're very accurate little guns and I desperately want them reliable and able to use as my concealed carry weapons as a backup at least. People say these aren't enough of a weapon and I beg to differ the most recent time I've had to use a pistol and self-defense this worked but it took two of them and the whole clips because one of them jammed but that's why I carry two.
@deucedeuce1572 Жыл бұрын
I use aluminum 22lr snap caps for pulling the trigger too... but I don't think they're really meant for that. They're more for "action proving" to prove that the gun can feed and eject right. The one's made for pulling the trigger are plastic... but they fall apart really fast. If you google those plastic screw anchors for concrete... you can get a box of 50 of them for just a couple dollars (like $2) and they will feed and work just like an action proving dummy/snap cop.... but you can pull the trigger on them, because they're so cheap it really don't matter if you only get to use each one 10 times. I don't recall the original one's that most people recommended, but they changed their design... so you might have to buy them from a different company. Whenever I bought any (I didn't know which one's to buy)... so I brought a 22lr bullet to Home Depot and got whichever one's had the closest rim to the 22lr case rim and then the rest of the casing to match as closely as possible also. I never found any to perfectly match (except the rim)... but slightly shorter one's, slightly longer one's and slightly thinner one's all worked just fine for feeding, pulling the trigger and ejecting. If you use them too many times though they might not eject, because the rim eventually starts to break off after about 10 uses for each one.

It's NOT that easy with the HP-22A or HP-25A. There is a SCREWED IN bar at the top of the trigger groove. That bar is a PRESSED IN bar on the older HP-22 and HP-25. If you remove that screw and bar on the 'A' models it makes for a very easy install. I was pulling my hair out trying to install on my new HP-25A until I removed that bar. About a year ago I did the install on my HP-22, and it was easy as can be. Just remember they have upgraded their two models to the 'A' models. By the way, this is a replacement pistol that Phoenix Arms sent me free of charge. I had the older model HP-25 and I needed a small pin for the ejector. They said just use an FFL dealer to send the pistol to them and they would replace it for FREE! WOW! THEY DID! That company has the best customer service anywhere.

Mcarbo would the stronger recoil spring make it safer to shoot high velocity 22lr thru the hp22a? I have 2 of these hp22as but 1 has a cracked frame cause i used remington golden bullets. Almost finished the 1400 round bucket before it cracked. Had maybe 100 rds left. On my second 1 i only shoot aguila standard velocity and after 2000 rounds i havent had any failures. And the frame is still intact. Also as for ideas, i also own 2 of the hp25as and i would love to see a 5 inch barrel made for them. The 22lr has a barrel from phoenix but not the 25acp version.

I've briefly considered getting one of the 5 inch 22lr barrels and having it drilled out for some 25acp barrel liner/rechambered.

For those interested, this kit won't really work on an HP22 (pre "A") No trigger return spring besides what's inside the trigger bar that engages the sear, and the sear spring design is different. It has a little leg that goes vertically down into the frame to hold it down as opposed to sitting on that little shelf. I managed to wedge the sear return spring into mine, will see how long it lasts.

I just performed this three spring upgrade. Happy! There is a feel difference in the trigger. I am hoping the new recoil spring will be a bit more durable over the factory spring. *I intend to case harden both ends of the firing pin to retard mushrooming and later also case harden the hammer face to stop the pronounced erosion requiring hammer replacement. Time will tell.

These are nice modifications. But in all honesty the failures are often linked to high velocity ammo that the gun's manufacturer doesn't recommend. My Phoenix has had a steady diet of almost exclusively LRN standard velocity CCI without a hiccup. 1100fps or less is the key. Habitual use of Mini-Mags will turn these guns into garbage or render them unsafe.

@@appreciativeobserver4732 it still is a heavy poorly designed hunk of metal that can do more damage if you throw it at someone. I own quite a few handguns. The HP25A was one of the first guns I bought 20+ years ago and I still have it because I couldn't give it to someone and not feel guilty for pawning off that POS on them. New I was lucky if I could get it to cycle through a magazine without jamming. My hate for this gun comes with stories including one in which my friend shot himself in the leg and my truck floorboard while the safety was on. I swear the damn thing is cursed.
