Some people claim that poor performance of exynos in standby was fixed by samsung in latest update. PhoneBuff can you give us second try and retest ? I believe that you have one of better repeatable tests out here. :-) [UPDATE] For couple of days tested s10 exynos (last week), problem is combination of network issues (4G vs 3G and WiFi on/off), standby problems, and bigger drain with demanding apps (not only games). Don't think this can be fixed enough with whatever samsung is doing. Hopefully i could give it back. Simply exynos version appears like worse twin in word s10 family, it should be cheaper.

I've a question for the standby test. I suppose the exynos variant isn't connected to the provider's IMS? While the Snapdragon will be connected to the IMS. The difference here is that when a phone isn't connected to the IMS, it cannot run voice calls via WiFi or LTE, so the phone is always on CSFB standby, in other words it's pinging the 3G or 2G network as well as the 4G network which it's running on by default, this can a significant impact on battery life. A way to make it fair is disable 4G and Wifi calling on both devices.

@@SharmaJi338 you're comparing two different devices. Well here they are comparing in fact two different hardware as well, but other variables are exactly the same, I just wanted to know if the network variable has been taken in consideration. A Snapdragon Galaxy, will have IMS support for all US carriers in it's firmware, while I doubt that a European S10 will have the IMS settings for American carriers. It was just curiosity, even if both phones have the same settings, I still expect the exynos to draw more battery, Snapdragon SoC have very efficient modems, neither Samsung nor Huawei can compete yet.

To save you time: The difference is CLEARLY only in the standby time, whereas the Exynos consumes double the power of the snapdragon (8% vs 16% loss). Assuming that the phones are setted exactly in the same way, a better way to conduct the test would be to simulate the screen on/screen off continously so that we can really simulate the everyday usage. I'm very curious to know if the gap increases, remains the same, diminishes or even the trend is inverted if you don't make it standby for 16 hours in a row. I understand it's a more tough test to make. Thank you for your time and efforts, this is of course still incredibly useful data!

Let's remember that Exynos are the only ones you can mod and they get a lot more perks in the long term usage from the community. Snapdragons out of the box perform slightly better and are, regarding standby, as shown in the test, about 10% more power efficient. I'd say there are pros and cons and that devices don't difference too much given that they have 2 different SoC for supply shortage reasons

Also difference is that snapdragon 855 has core configuration as 1+3+4 But on other hand exynos 9820 has core configuration of 2+2+4. This means snapdragon has only one high performance core where as exynos has 2 high performance core and that is making difference between energy efficiencies of both phones.

In all the these tests the Snapdragon and Exynos dropped equally in percentage, except for the standby test where all of a sudden a huge difference appeared which I think cannot be logically explained. If the Exynos would indeed be less power efficient these should have led to differences in other tests than the standby test as well. I think there was maybe a factor in play during the standby test of which the person doing the test was not aware (the test is actually one of the best battery tests I've ever seen, so props for that).

The biggest diference was not during on-screen time, but during standby. It seems the Exynos version on the early days (when this video was shot) had a firmware issue that resulted in such high standby usage, this issue didn't affect the Snapdragon variants. I'm actually surprised by seeing a S10+ (with larger battery) use 17% for 16hrs of standby, that's over 1%/hour. As contrast, currently, my Exynos S10 (non-plus) drains only 5% in 10hrs of Standby (that's 0,5%/hr). I do remember that my S10 did have high battery usage in standby when I initially got it, but I fixed the problem by using the Medium Power setting (which forces reduced background usage) and, by disabling the "limit CPU to 70%" feature, I actually got a significant increase in battery life without having to deal with any sort of slowdown. It seems that this problem has since been fixed even for those using regular power settings, and the Exynos no longer has standby battery drain issues.
