Phosphate in organic pool - the truth exposed in milligrams per litre

This has been a long-standing ambition of mine to buy a phosphate measurement device. I know I should get out more, but I have been going on for years about only using rainwater to keep phosphate levels down and inhibit algae. Now I have the chance to see if I have been talking twaddle or truth ( in milligrams per litre).

Hi David, I am not far from you and keep koi. Last year I was struggling with high nitrates in the pond and after a while I tested the tap and checked the Anglian water water report and actually found that most of it was coming out of the tap. It surprised me exactly what was in the tap water and what the legal limits were.

Along this thread of thinking, would adding rainwater eventually correct a high phosphate level? What are other things we need to check if phosphate is high?

If you’re potassium levels are really zero, how come your aquatic plants in the pond don’t suffer? They need that nutrient as well for healthy growth, no?

If you're talking phosphate the concept would be to balance the pool with an adequate amount of plants in the wetlands. So if there's to much phosphate and the plants can't keep up you get an algae bloom. To little and the plants suffer. A perfectly balanced pond with wetlands should be around zero. Similar idea with your nitrogen cycle.

Is the phosphate equally distributed in the water? That is, aren't there any differences between surface and bottom water. Because tap water is going to be basically well mixed, while you got the surface water from both the barrell and the pond.

Thanks for doing this test. The only thing I can think of as to why you pool reads zero is that it is fully balanced. It certainly does not look polluted. Is there a reason you think it would be? Sorry you didn't think your Hanna meter was worth it.

Is it possible that sunlight reduces phosphates levels in the water? Tap water never sees light until it comes out of the tap so that could explain the high levels. Just a thought. 👍

There's lots of phosphate in urine. Maybe some one has been peeing in the tap water. If you boil of 50,000 gallons of urine you'll get a hundred weight of phosphate

Witam ,do pomiaru fosforanów używam HI 736 Mini-fotometr jest to fotometr do wody morskiej . Moim zdaniem nadaje się do wody słodkiej ,pewnie daje trochę przekłamany wynik . Pozwala na sprawdzenie ilości fosforanów w wodzie . Z doświadczenia i pomiarów wiem że glony nitkowate Spirogyra rosną przy zawartości fosforanów wyższej niż 25 µg/l (ppb).

Is there value in checking Nitrates?Or Nitrites and Ammonia? assueing there is no fish I would imagine that Nitrates are suffcieint to see whether you have enough plantlife?

Was your device measuring parts per million or parts per billion? Phosphate needs to be measured in parts per billion in order to be accurate enough to read the low levels required for pond testing.

What is wrong with your video production? I like the information you provide, but your sound quality sucks. It is uneven, often too low, and when you add music, it deafens you. Can't you fix this? It is a pretty elementary thing you should have grasped by now, considering you have been posting videos for a decade.
