Some 72mm circular polarizers cost as much as this lens. But seriously, seems like a welcome wide angle. So glad about the price and that they offer it in m43 mount. 👏

in real test.. This lens is a failure.. a huge failure 1. f2 very bad for me.. 2. when use f8-f11, there is an image point around the middle, which is not clear, like watercolor and blurry.. so bad that you can't use f8-f11.. Some photographers also experience the same thing even though they have replaced the item (warranty) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qomllYCsfs6rosk problem at 7:40

Looks nice on price and size, bad timing for me though...For now Im going to stick with my Laowa 9mm & 10mm cookie and Rokinon 12mm f/2 AF (that I just bought last week). Had this lens been released a month ago I would have prob bought it. Nice review, Thank You!

Nice review! It's amazing to see the resistance to sun flare, the clean sun stars, and even a lack of focus breathing. Those look a lot worse in test videos of the Fuji XF 8mm F3.5! And vignetting seems less dramatic than the Laowa 9mm F2.8. I have the Samyang 12mm F2. My problem with it is: uneven focus/sharpness across the image. Both wide open in starry skies and stopped down in landscapes. It makes it difficult to be sure of the focus point when adjusting the lens, even near infinity. The TTartisan 10mm looks great overall, though it does not seem it will have more uniform sharpness than the Samyang. The price certainly makes it worth a try.

Yes indeed good to see the lens flare performance is better than their previous lenses (one thing i keep complaining in almost every one of my TTArtisan review!)

difficult to ascertain the degree of clarity, image quality with your test. I think the chart should be blown up and just shoot it, then examine various parts -- corners, mid frame etc-- of it. But the brick wall with a 9x11 sheet on it is a bit wanting, especially for wide angle. I hope you can accept this critical feedback and use it to improve your reviews! Cheers
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 9 ай бұрын
hi M. Redsky, thank you for the feedback, always love some constructive criticism! I always try to see how I can improve and give more useable/meaning results. For the sharpness test, i have made a conscious decision not to shoot a test chart at close focus distance. The reason is that lens performance is quite often very different when shooting at close distance (e.g. a single test chart) and normal distance (i.e. more than a few meters away). Most lenses are optimised for far distance shooting, not close up. This is because for non-macro lenses, people usually take a lot more photos at mid range 1-10 meter focus distance and infinity focus than close-up distance . If i shoot a test chart at close distance, the result can be misleading as it can be very different from what my photos would look like when shooting normal distance photos. Another problem shooting test chart at close distance is that the depth of field becomes a lot more shallow, so field curvature may affect the corner sharpness more than usual, especially if the chart is not setup perfectly perpendicular to the camera. While I could re-focus at the corner to test the corner sharpness instead, I also made a conscious decision not to do that in my main corner test as if we are shooting landscape or anything that is more than say 10 meters away, we would rarely focus at the corner so purposely focus at corner is not going to give you realistic real world result. (However I do notice the corner sharpness can be improved noticeably by refocus at corner, i would mention that in my review as well to let my viewer aware of that) There are also a few other reasons that makes me not want to shoot a large test chart at close distance as well but I'm not going to list them all as my reply is getting quite long :) But anyway, will all these reasons, that's why i do my sharpness test at focus distance that is at least a few meters away with test chart placed at the center and corner. This is a bit more work for me than shooting a test chart inside my room, but the idea is to give you closer to real world results in terms of sharpness no matter you are shooting at mid focus distance or infinity focus distance. This is also why I have a seperate "close up" chapter in my review and usually would show you the sharpness at close up distance as close up sharpness is also important but i consider that a complete seperate test. And if I'm testing a macro lens, i would usually have two seperate sharpness test. One at my usual test for normal distance photo sharpness, and one at very close macro distance to test the close up sharpness. I hope that make sense. And thanks for the feedback.

@@TheRealRichardWong to be honest, i think i am understanding your sentiments, though many of the details I think are not understood... nevertheless, i think it's nice to have something like a chart to see where the lens drops off in image quality -- I believe it could have more lines of continuity that can display distortion, abberations, etc more immediately than the wall. After all, we all know lenses, optics degrade toward the edge of a frame, but just how much? It would be nice to know as I think it's an important metric in assessing a lens. In any case, I appreciate your content and look forward to more. So thank you for your service!
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 9 ай бұрын
Re the distortion, I agree a test chart with a lot of perfect straight lines in both vertical and horizontal would make it a lot easier to check distortion, the problem is again i have to shoot it at close distance. Just like sharpness, most lens distortion are optimised when the focus is at infinity or close to it because that's when you need the straight line of buildings..etc to remain undistorted. Distortion at close distance is not that important for most users. So if you look at my Laowa 9mm review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6ScZnmllN9kircsi=5A9ts2GFPmKtTh5Z&t=815 This is a great example because this lens's distortion is really bad at close focus distance, but it becomes decent at far focus distance. And this is a very common behaviour for a lot of lenses. So if I shoot a distortion test chart (at close distance), it may show a lot of distortion, but it does not represent the real-world performance when you are shooting landscape-type of photos. So that's why i choose to shoot either brick wall, or anything that is more than a few meters away. Ideally I would like to have a 3m x 3m test chart in a large studio room so i can shoot the test chart at a few meters distance. Don't think i can afford to do that anytime soon :_( But once again, thanks for the feedback, really appreciate that. It really helped me to rethink and chance to improve my test methods.

Hi Richard, I'm a Fuji shooter, X-T5, I have the original Fuji 10-24mm and am interested as to how this 10mm TTArtisan compares. For your info I shoot a lot at the 19:9 aspect ratio (easier to compose and crop to X-Pan), so the vignetting might not be so critical for me. Any comment you might have for this comparison or even one of the 9mm now available. Regards.
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 3 ай бұрын
Yes if you shoot 19:9 then vignetting might be very minimal. Oh what is the 9mm you are referring to? Is it the 7Artisans 9mm 5.6?
@geoffhoward2171
@geoffhoward2171 3 ай бұрын
@@TheRealRichardWong I thank you for your comment, I was not thinking of any specific 9mm, if one came to my mind it was probably the Laowa Zero-D. I must however admit to an error I meant to say the 16:9 aspect ratio, which is as close to 65:24 (X-Pan) or my calculation of 2.7:1. There are so many 9/10 mm lenses about now, it is not easy to select one as I do have the Fuji 10-24mm asking the question is it worth getting a prime at that Focal Length.

The pictures are not as distorted as my other wide angle lenses and the f stop makes for suprisingly good bokeh (not as good as my Pana Lieca 25mm ). So for I have not dropped the lens ! For MFT, I would go to the Panasonic 7-14mm, that gives more freedom, and more versatile. For APSC body, like Canon on RF molunt, This is probably a good choice ! But still wondering if it is useful for one who have the 11mm TTartisan already ?! (even if this one if 24*36, it can be used on APSC body as the mount is the same)
