I do retouching, but for film. The amount of retouching is insane. To the point where I sometimes don't think the actors even know what they actually look like, and a lot of actors use the same touch up teams for every film so that it's consistent. It started off for continuity (if an actor had a pimple for a week of shooting and then it disappeared) but now it is for full retouching: stomachs, chins, wrinkles, jowls, anything you can think of. It's sad.

But I think some of the ppl who get surgeries (and even fillers) sometimes forget that surgery carries risk. You never think it's going to happen to you. As someone who has had to have several non elective surgeries, I felt that way until a doctor perforated my uterus. Or one of my close friends almost died on the operating table getting a breast reduction she had badly needed for yrs (her arm was going numb).
@aba91254 жыл бұрын
@@Kristalya erasing all skin texture with surgery isn’t possible, even with botox you can’t get rid of 100% of skin texture. Plus discolouration, your skin isn’t 1 smooth colour obv with good make up you can cover most if not all of it but usually there'll be little bits not covered perfectly like slight discolouration under the eyes. As well as brightening up the whites of the eyes and getting rid of any veins or discolouration there, that can’t be fixed with surgery or make up. I’m not sure how well surgery can change acne scars/bumps though so maybe. Anyway the point is, there’s more to it then just get surgery, and the "perfect" look in magazines can’t be achieved with just surgery and makeup, hence photo retouching and photoshop.

I'm a photographer and stopped editing my images beside the basic and artistic style. I was loosing myself and didn't want clients to fall in the trap either. On IG I just do artistic style editing, no skin, no shape, nothing. It's less about misleading others but misleading yourself.

I started doing it slowly like others have said. I started off editing my terrible teenage acne prone skin. Then when slim waists and big butts became trendy I would alter really small things or if my clothes looked too baggy I’d edit it to look like it fit better. Then I started editing my jaw and nose smaller and smaller. It got to the point where even if I took a bad photo I knew I could make it look good with facetune. I started to forget what I looked like it was so crazy. I would think in my mind I was barely editing anything but looking back it was so overdone. I only stopped whenever I began to get worried about people seeing me in real life. I deleted social media for about 8 months and focused on more important things. Now I hardly post but I can see many others falling into the trap I was in, so I hardly ever browse on Instagram anymore. It’s so bad for your mental health

The kardashians hire 'in house' paparazzi to stage their pap photos and then sell the photos to media outlets themselves. Absolutely love this and I am obsessed with your channel as I've learnt so much from you! One thing I'll point out as well as a photographer/ graphic designer, Nicki Minaj's photo in particular, another technique to achieve that natural skin look with the pores is the use of noise. I would generally do a duplicate layer, gaussian blur, and add specific amount of noise (to mimic skin texture/pores), then I would hide that layer. Then I go in with a brush tool with the brush color to white, and go over parts of the face almost like a mask. I know there's tons of techniques to photo retouching, but I'd thought I would share. I also tried the dodge and burn technique you mentioned and yes it is so time consuming ahhhhh!

I hate it when people bash women for editing. Society literally conditioned all these girls and women and female celebrities to look and certain way and constantly bash them when they don't. And when they do, it's still an issue? Yes, celebrities need to use their platforms to showcase more realistic bodies. But people tend to forget that we are the reason they don't do that. Take Billie eillish, she covers herself because she's scared of what people will say about her body. And people support her and say it's okay even if she chooses not to cover herself. But when she doesn't cover herself, all she gets is attacks. We are the reason they do that. Please remember. (Thank you for keeping the video so respectful, Jessica. So refreshing to see that)

Love you, Jess! I appreciate your candidness, as a photographer myself, it's hilarious to me when people show me a shot and are like 'Wow! She looks amazing for 50' I just smile and tell them that someone earned a pretty penny retouching that shot!!! Lol!

Nothing says glorifying unhealthy beauty standards like putting a morbidly obese person on the cover of sports illustrated and photoshopping all the natural cellulite and fat rolls we get with weight and then trying to say she is perfectly healthy and beautiful at that size when nobody at that size is free of dimples and there are health problems. I worked in the medical health field. We had an obese cadaver (people donate their bodies to science) and inside, every organ was triple in size. It was the weight that killed her. Our society is sick.

Supermodels died out the year photosphopping software came out. Did you notice? Who needs Kate Mosses and Christy Turlingtons when you can edit anybody as you like?
@kimmyb4513 жыл бұрын
Its just unfortunate now, society keeps pressuring men& women to be more and more perfect. There was a picture of this beautiful model next to her picture on a magazine and she looks different. She looked amazing already but its the companies who normally wants more perfection, and other women see and become insecure, think they have to do this. 1 flaw and the paparazzis mock you. There was a male actor who gained weight and was just out surfing They made a comment about that...

How did they retouch photos in the 40s then? Famous movie stars have photos retouched from that era. I can't quite believe that retouching didn't exist in the 80s.

Wow I’ve never used dodge and burn in the pixel by pixel way you described at 12:45! Usually I go in with the stamp, and the patch tool and use dodge and burn in the end to bring out highlights and lowlights in face and hair. Must definitely try using the tool for details! Thank you for this info:)

Subscribed. I’m a graphic designer and have never heard of using dodge and burn per pixel for perfect skin editing! (That would take forever)! I’m shook! I’ve also never had to edit close up type portraits. I’m going to try this out of curiosity. I always thought editors just put textures over edited skin.

For the Nikki one they may have used frequency separation as well since that can help smooth tone and colors without messing with texture

I worked for one of those labs. In the early - middle, '00s, we initially changed a dollar a minute and that would increase in terms of the amount of time we spent on the image. A lot of them were literally senior portraits. Those kids didn't have decent photos for relatives; they had portfolios.

I know this video isn't supposed to be criticizing any of the people involved, but I would still like to thank you because it is really reassuring to see that a lot of my "imperfections" were just natural features lol. I didn't think I'd get so heavily 'brainwashed' by these photoshops that I'd simply be insecure about having pores on my face or lines on my neck 💀

When the waist of the pants are so small they wouldn't be able to go over her hips, you know it's shopped. Nobody is capable of pulling 19:37 over their hips with that tiny waist.
@legendaryzee224 жыл бұрын
Unbuttoned and unzipped I think they can actually fit but it’s obviously still photoshopped
@bluebird419784 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I have a smaller waist (though not to photoshopped-Kylie's extent) and it would only be kinda possible with a completely different pair of jeans - i.e. those with longer zippers/that get pretty wide when unbuttoned, so that you can get in and out with no hassle and have the jeans nicely wrap your waist and hips once they're on. I've tried pants like those and trust me, they'll *never* get around my butt unless I bust the seams open or remove my femurs - and if I try a larger size, it's going to be super loose around the waist. I do have a pair of jeans that fit me well, but even then my torso looks very different from what you see in the picture (read: my hipbones don't get sucked into the realm of shadows). That retouch is ridiculously unrealistic.

This is great so I did a shoot once where I had someone crying at my door, very beautiful girl and wasn't sure how the editor ruined her appearance. I feel between lighting and camera angles people can look very different. I do run into problems where a model hates how they look and theyll want you to do serious editing and this is where I just cant comply without cringing. People dont want to meet you and say "you mean thats the girl in the picture?" Then you get those who say "What? Thats really me?" And you barely had to do anything to the photo. Sometimes I think we just change too much now and wish people felt more comfortable being themselves. I find that the most attractive and inspiring to work with.
