I live a few hundred km south of the circle. For serious events I use an electric lens warmer similar to those of astronomers. Occasionally I will set the camera up in my yard for a time lapse then go back to bed (how jaded we become). The advice about caring for yourself first is spot on. Although I don’t need lessons or opportunity to shoot aurora, the ‘whole package’ you describe sounds a bargain for someone who has the lights as a bucket list item. Personal taste leans toward shorter exposures where the light display isn’t melded into a green haze on the horizon. Have shot both styles but prefer the more detailed look. Excellent video. Good luck with your tour.

Thanks for watching, and stay warm.

Thank you both for another cool show! But I thank you not for reminding me how much I miss going chasing the Northern Lights... I was in Northern Norway (farther North than the Lofoten) during the previous max of solar activity and got to experience, and photograph, some wonderful ones. I hope I can start travelling again in time to make the most of the current max. And it sounds like it's a pretty big max, this time. I mean, they could see them in France! Far from urban light pollution whereas I could see them in town when I was in Norway. But still! Fingers crossed I can travel again soon...

Hey Thomas! As always, thanks for watching! I wish I could do Dave’s workshop.

@@BehindTheShot Don't hesitate to shoot me a message if you want to go and chase the Northern Lights when Dave is not available. I would definitely recommend you join him if you can, for he knows this stuff better than I do, but I'm not exactly a beginner either. And I'd be happy to share what I know with you. Fingers crossed I can head north in the coming Februarys. That worked wonders for me the last times I went there.

Will do. My buddy is actually doing Dave’s workshop, after the 3 weeks in Scotland and Ireland we are doing as I type it’s a big expense.

@@BehindTheShot And Norway can be especially pricey. But the weather is milder than in Sweden or in Finland at the same latitude... I might try wintering in Saariselkä. I liked it in September a few years ago and could see the potential to go looking for the northern lights there, a bit more comfortable than you would in Sweden, where do many people go. Too many good options in Europe...
