Good move Tim, sending Sarah first to clear the snakes

haha, isn't it normally the second person to get bitten, first person spooks the snake, second cops it! 😂 Glad I was back a bit. That snake was crazy.

@@advanturest Don't know about that theory Tim, it looked like a startled Eastern Brown to me, I had one wriggle in front of my tyre a few weeks ago but it was just a babe only about 30cm long

Nice piece of Australian Heritage capturing the Brumbies Tim. Feral pests or the legacy and record of our history and mountain communities?

Nice mood. Since your main goal is photogrphing brumbies, have you thought of using camouflage tent/poncho? I'll use monopod for a big lens like that.

As annoying as the YT algorithm can be, sometimes it just gets it right - this was a great video! Growing up with Elyne Mitchell's 'Silver Brumby' novels, I've always wanted to visit Kosciuszko to see the Brumbies. That was until I saw that snake leap up and aggressively move past your wife - WTF!!! I've spent a lot of time on the land (and still do) and I have never seen a snake do that with passers by on foot. That snake must have been in a deep sleep to react like that. Gosh. I'd have outrun the Brumbies I reckon. Sarah reacted like a total boss! Seriously though, great video and you've captured the country, and some of the horses, beautifully. And you saw Gang Gangs too! Not surprising that you loved being there. Also, interesting to note that many of the mares you got footage of were quite obviously in foal, some quite heavily. Thanks for sharing this - Rich.

Thanks mate, That snake encounter was really bizzare. At the time of filming it I didn't see it jump in the air, I just assumed it was right next to the track and it just slithered away. It wasn't until that night when I reviewed the footage that I saw what happened. I too thought it must have been spooked. So strange how it jumped up like it did. Very happy it did it actually, you can see in the video that initial jump is what Sarah saw and made her run forward. I wonder what could have happened if it didn't catch her eye. Over the years I've seen random birds and wanted a zoom lens to try photograph some. Got this new lens for that reason. While I was out there to capture brumbies, getting a few bird shots was so cool. Really happy with the whole weekend overall. Such a good experience, and you have confirmed Sarah's thoughts about the mare. She kept saying "I think she's pregnant" Cheers for watching. Tim

Ahh those bloody dogs! I was up that way about a month ago and they were doing the same thing, I didn't get a wink a sleep either. I did leave my camera out timelapsing the stars and I was too scared to get it the next morning, I had to wait until the sun rose before I was game enough to get it 😂

haha, this is so funny. My original plan was to do a solo trip on my bike a few weeks earlier but had to cancel. I really wanted to get some photos before the closure so that's why Sarah and I head in at Easter. All I can say, I'm glad I wasn't alone. having a few people around definitely felt more comforting. Were you on a solo trip? If you were that would have been so freaky. Hope the timelapse turned out 👍 On that note, I got a USB lens heater for Christmas, haven't used it yet but looking forward to some star timelapses. almost a full moon coming up last week, so I didn't bother trying.

@@advanturest yeah it sure was a solo trip, I think there was about 3 dogs all howling at each other all night. Scary stuff 😱 I use a lens warmer too when shooting astro, just make sure you’ve got a power bank that big enough to last a while, I’ve 15,000 mAh and that lasts about 7-8hrs of timelapsing, so prefect for an all night Astro sesh, then I just got a get it in the morning.

You reckon the dogs were still carrying on the second night and you didn't notice?

Yea they definitely were. We had 2 new people turn up on the 2nd night and we were listening to the dogs while sitting around the fire. The first night there was one super close though and it was genuinely very loud. As soon as I decided to try record it the thing stopped. Also for me, I was more worried about getting trampled by a horse. The first night they were close. You could hear them in the bushes and also hear them grunting. The second night I put heaps of wood on the fire before going to bed and that probably gave me enough time to fall into a deep sleep before the fire died out and animals came in. Or maybe it was just the beer 😂 While the dogs were spooky, there sounds were also kind of relaxing.

Couldn’t watch this. Too distressing seeing what those feral animals are doing to that precious place.
