They give you at bit extra so you can wind it on. But if you're careful you can just barely get it on the spool and make use of those first couple inches.

DigitalRev TV Manual focus is "cool" these days? I guess I'm in the business of making amazing images and not being a hipster about it. Sometimes you need to manual focus, but don't be a douche about good tech and miss the shot.

I do kind of miss the old days sometimes. It was hard work, but when you managed a good photo it meant you were a good photographer, not that you owned an expensive rig. I have a collection of pictures that I spent hours developing to their perfect potential, but nobody seems to appreciate how hard it really was.

Armoured Media I still shoot some film and do darkroom work. I’d rather spend 10 hours in there than 5 minutes on Lightroom, but darkroom stuff is purely for me and my family and I’ve only ever been a hobbyist with analogue images.

In 1990 I shot 6x7 and 4x5, had the film processed, gave the transparencies to the client, then they shipped them off to a company with a "Scitex" machine and had them scanned and manipulated for the layout and print...stuff everyone does with Photoshop now. I got my first digital camera in 1996: a Kodak DC50 for $1000.

I like the comparing not only for the major actions in photography but also they tried to do the actions with life style of each era, such as clothes, hair style, and even the music ... like this one I wish I was interested in photography that era not only now, but then I was more interested in painting especially oil painting

I've experienced all of the above. On the upside, learning to white balance in the dark room in college helped me later with early DSLRs in Photoshop. Those film fundamentals hold up when you transition to digital.

Test strips! I had forgotten about them. Those were the (awful) days. I don't miss the smelly chemicals, the battle to find/set up a darkroom or the constant battle with dust. You think sensor dust is bad? Trying hanging out your film to dry and watching it attract every dust particle in the house...

School camps, Mum would buy me a $10 disposable Kodak film camera with the little flash on it, 24 exp, Now days kids have smartphones & tablets etc. Waiting to get the photos back at the end of the two weeks was so enjoyable even if it was just a whole bunch of crazy snaps to show & share around class. Today i'm so thankful to have picked back up with film after shooting for the past 15 years in the digital world.

I started out with one the best film cameras Leica M2 back in the 60's. Range finder was amazing for the time. Shot the Rose Parade on the north side. Don't remember how I lost track of it? Bummer.

You know what surprised me, actually... I recently switched "back" to film, and for some reason I didn't "chimp" or suffer from "phantom LCD" or something. - But I guess it helped that I didn't use cameras for a long time, so the habit wasn't really there (anymore) when I picked up film-cameras again.

I grew up on film, but when the 5D came out I jumped on board. Several months later I picked up a used 1V because I was missing film. I blew through the first roll not thinking I only had 36 shots. Boy, was I surprised when the camera started rewinding! And I didn't have a spare roll!

That last one happened to me once. I had thousands of shots I took and then my computer died on me. It was at that point, I kind a gave up. I also seemed to have misplaced some of my undeveloped film rolls too. Great.
