I have owned my d600 for a little over a year now. i have had to clean the sensor one time. The sensor only had dust from changing lenses.. The camera takes top notch photos.

I've had a D600 for two weeks, About 400 shots in and dust spots are starting to show at f8. Not that fussed YET but if it does get any worse ill check for oil marks on sensor and give it back for warranty. Apart from that its a great camera :)

Rented one from LensRentals and I liked it so much that I bought the camera. I am thrilled with this D610. Clean right up to and thru 3200. Have not tried 6400. Seems to me that 24 MPX is ideal. The D610's mirror slap is very tolerable. It has what I would call a quiet shutter, unlike the D800(E) which is very annoying to me, and which causes soft images. 6 fps is plenty. BTW, it has a modest buffer of about 15 to 18 14-bit RAWs. I can work with that. love the D610!

Have they got rid of the issue of the focus points only covering a small area of the frame? That put me off buying the D600 (as well as the oil spots issue) but the D610 wouldn't have too many flaws for my uses if that were true and I'd consider buying it if the price were right.

I have a 6D. I use the silent choice nearly all the time, it's good enough that if I photograph someone I'm talking to, from the chest, they rarely notice. Wireless is nice too, and so is the lack of leaking oil.

I agree, no spots = huge upgrade. I can see why techy geeks are disappointed: It doesn't have 500 exapixels, wifi, bluetooth, automatic updates to Facebook, Instagram, or take automatic "selfies." But for photographers, this camera is as good as it gets in my opinion. I will get mine in about a month or so. Hopefully I will have enough to splurge on the 70-200 VRII. The tech geeks can keep their 40 megapixel Nokia phones and move on.

I use a D600, Dust is an issue! Especially when you're at f11+ it gets so bad that I've actually had to scrap some shots because the dust in the corners was so bad you couldn't spot remove it (think nasty vignette), you can blow it clean and it helps, but the dust always comes back. I change lenses a lot but I dont think thats the real issue, the shutter just lets lots of dust in. Basically I just clean it before every shoot, thinking I might move to a D800 for the 250th sync and better sealing.

The dust comes through the lens mount, either by being sucked in via zooming in and out, or when you change lenses. The D800 has better sealing, but has nothing to do with dust getting to your sensor. Its weather sealed so water doesnt get into the body joints. Are you sure its dust and not oil? Go and get it cleaned professionally by Nikon. If it is an oil issue, they will fix it for free and the problem will not come back - i have had mine fixed.

Very confused by the point of this video. You haven't demo'd the camera on-screen or shown anything physically about the camera. How is this in any way a review? It's a comparison of two cameras we never see? I'd rather see someone ubox the item/turn it on/show the video/show how it works/show what it includes/show what it comes with/then speak their own personal opinion about how they feel. You didn't do any of that?

My guess is that the engineers came up with a better shutter and the bean-counters were horrified at the cost of upgrading every single D600 out there. With the low-end compacts already on the skids and the Series 1 staggering a bit they had a good case. They added a couple of tiny extra features to save face (it's part of the culture) and called it a new release rather than a bug fix. That way they get to live on. So cut them a bit of slack.

probably a model that uses a different shutter for adressing the oil and dust on the sensor. it is not a coincidence that all the upgrades have something to do with the shutter. well the d600 was much better value than the 6d so hope this fixes the problems.

I have the Nikon D600, its a great camera. If they upgraded the AF system to the one similar to D800 or the new D7100 that will tempt me to upgrade. All these other features are not really needed for them to even release this version, unless they have final fixed the dust and shutter issue of the original D600. I did have to send my D600 back for sensor cleaning a few times already.

I have a D600, which had oil issues. Nikon happily fixed the issue (for free, as they should) and it hasn't reappeared after 3000 shots.

Completely agree. It is nothing short of a disgrace that they don't admit it and recall the D600s for refurbishment or replacement at no customer cost. Matt already mentioned SB-900/SB-910 issue. No better way to build customer loyalty than to screw them. It's just too much to believe.

I guess just to see if Nikon has fixed the Flaws :-) I went from really wanting a 600 but after the problems I moved my choices to the D-800 & the Canon Mk III Both more than I really wanted to spend BUT I would to not go thru the problems the 600 had or still has. Give it a Month of heavy shooting and any problems if any with the 610 should arise. My Nikon F2AS is over 25 y/o and still going strong :-)

I don't need to buy the D600 on AMAZON, near my house there is a shop that has the same price. And there is the NIKON WARRANTY. But I will buy the D610, not because of the problem of oil, but because I like more the white balance in the videos of the D610.

This camera is beautiful. Still one of the best sensors on the market. It delivers rich beautiful colours and lovely skin tones. This camera is a back-up to my D750 for shooting weddings - however I love it so much I am using it more and more. Certainly one of the best value cameras on the market and it delivers superbly.

Well, this sort of f...ed up my day. I'm just in the process of upgrading to FX from a Nikon D300s. Already sold some of my DX lenses. My thoughts were to upgrade to D600, but when i heared of all the oil issues i was happy to see the D610 come out. So the D610 combined with Tamron 24-70 F2.8 VC is/was my choice. Now all of a sudden im back to maybe just buying the D600 instead. omg... decisions decisions... save a few bucks on the D600 or do the "foolproof" d610..? HELP

The Nikon D610 is almost equal to the Nikon D600. I would have removed the anti aliasing filter. Or I would have gladly seen a D610 similar to the Pentax K-3: among the new Pentax-features there is also an 'anti aliasing filter' which can be activated or enabled on request. In any case, the Nikon D600 and the Nikon D610 are among the best cameras in the world.

I have the D600, got the oil issue, fixed it at NPS, had to pay for it because I got the problem while traveling in a different country from the one where I purchased the camera. No problem since then. Won't upgrade to the 610 as the D600 is giving me what I need for now so I'd rather blow the money on a nice lens before upgrading next year to whatever gonna cover the D700 genre or maybe move to Canon in case Nikon screws up again. Loyal customers ain't happy with this shitty policy from Nikon.

I had a D600 with the oil issue. Went back to Nikon three times before the camera store gave me a refund. I hope the D610 buyers do not suffer the same problem, if you got it bad like me the camera is unusable. Nikon make a lot of very fine products but my D600 was not one of them, it was a lemon. IMHO the release of the D610 (which by the way has a different shutter assembly to the D600) vindicates the anger of all those who suffered the oil issue like me.

The D610 will cost $100 less than the D600. This I have already written. Can you read? The fact that the D610 doesn't increase in price, is the demonstration that Nikon is not fooling anyone. Today you are divided into two categories: 1 who is disappointed by the price which is lowered 2 who is disappointed by the price which is NOT increased. But the fact that Nikon introduced the D610( adjustment of D600), without increasing the price, is a sign of great PROFESSIONALISM and HONESTY.

True, but the price has not changed, the D610 costs even a few dollars less than the D600. So the behavior of Nikon is honest. Usually, Nikon doesn't change just the name of a Camera. All new Nikon cameras are generational changes. Some Nikon cameras are quantum leaps(see difference between D700 and D800). The trick to change just name firmware and PRICE, is a trick of CANON. The EOS 5D needed THREE GENERATIONS(5D, 5DMII and 5DMkIII) to get a decent autofocus. I'm sorry but I had to tell you.

Matt, love the sarcasm. Yeah, Nikon released the D610 due to a 0.5 fps increase. Of course D610 means "fixed D600," which is doing a huge disservice to current owners of the D600. What is the value of that camera now on the resale market, with Nikon nearly officially acknowledging that the D600 is a turd? So much a turd, in fact, that it had to distance itself from the D600 by clearly making a differentiation in the new nomenclature as the D610. Wow. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

I am not negative at all, go check the prices,a refurbished D600 is $1539 on Adorama. Would you buy a D600 now? NO cuz the D610 is there. D600 owners are left with a faulty camera that no one will buy again. Besides, I am a paid photog & my camera has paid for itself many times already so im not bitching about money, however, being a basic full frame camera, most D600 owners are hobbyists and those won't be happy seeing the camera they bought 3 or 4 months ago being sold for 25% less money now.

People who think negative, are always complaining: if the price of the D610 increased, you complain. If decreases, you complain. The D610 costs $100 LESS THAN THE D600. This is normal, because the D600 and D610 ARE EXACTLY THE SAME ONE CAMERA(with a small update in the D610). But the D600 was announced on September 13, 2012(A YEAR AGO). In short, we can certainly say that Nikon has done CORRECTLY, Nikon is not fooling anyone. Talking only of a new firmware, as does Matt Granger, is stupid.

MrChevypower I know about Pentax Middle Format, however on DSLR their market share is least to say "small". i have tested their new DSLR's and at no time i can compare the image quality with Nikon D800 or Canon 5D Mark iii, or Nikon D610. I really cant see any reason for anyone to jump to Pentax at this stage at least on DSLR levels...

Mike Maximus Well said. People who want gadgets just to talk about specifications really shouldn't get a DSLR. This is an art, and the D610 is an extremely powerful tool. I just saw a large framed picture the other day that will be sold for thousands of dollars. The tool? A D700. That's a 12mp camera. The picture was cropped vertically, so it's blown up from about 8 megapixels. Sure there's a few convenience features Nikon could have added, like built-in GPS and wifi. But those things don't make the camera take better pictures. At the end of the day, that's all that really matters is can you make the camera take the picture you want it to take? With the D610, the answer is yes. With the D600, the answer was no, because who wants spots all over their pictures? If you take the picture right the first time, you don't need to waste time in Photoshop.

Mike Maximus I have to agree with you there also, I can't see that the Pentax offers a better image. I'd be happy with $3,000 of lenses in addition to my 28-300. So an entire kit for a little over $6,000 with every lens I need and want plus a speed light. You really can't beat that.

It has more upgraded then the 650D to 700D.. you got a crappy stm lens no one will use anyway and the turn knob is not printed anymore but molded onto the knob... They should have removed that completely retarded mode dial lock. I had no trouble with my mode dial skipping or turning unintentionally on my D7000, but now I have to do a pain in the ass button to change the mode on my D600 if I so happen to feel that I want to swap modes.

Pentax K3 is NOT a full frame camera. Is a very good camera, but has an APS-C sensor (23,5 mm × 15,6 mm). The Pentax K3 and Nikon D7100 are the best aps-c cameras in the world. But the FX sensor, always gives you a BETTER DYNAMIC RANGE. The Nikon D600(FX) and the Nikon D610(FX) have a GREAT EXCEPTIONAL unreachable sensors.
