I have been doing digital art work commercially for about 35 years. (going back to Scitex days). I had retired, and sort of let my photoshop skills atrophy. Going back in retirement to painting old school (egg tempera mainly).. I had someone beg me to do a commercial project, re-uped my Adobe subscription. Low and behold. None of my old brush sets even WORKED in the newer versions of Adobe CC. This one set saved me hundreds of hours rebuilding brushes, and presets. allowed me to get right to work and saved the day.. Also some of the new brush tools in PS are pretty cool, and you've done a great job of explaining and demonstrating them in a way that people can easily pick up and run with. THANK!

This has to be one of the best Photoshop paintbrush tutorials (or just Photoshop tutorials period) I've ever watched. I'm not even 10 minutes into this and I subscribed to his channel and added this video to my favorites list. I plan to see what other videos he has. He uses techniques and shortcuts that otherwise would have taken me forever to do.

Hello Aaron! Greetings from Berlin! I allways thought how may I get soooo many small leafs on the paper - make a leaf brush. I allways thought how may I draw hundreds of scales - use Mixer Brushes! THANK YOU, MAN! This was extremely helpful!

Little quick tip for the mixer brush: You can also use pixel images as color information. Find a .png of a tree (make sure the resolution is high so it doesn't negatively affect your work) and sample the leaves and you can instantly have an entire palette at your fingertips. You can also sample the work you have already done using the mixer brush leading to even more amounts of variation.

This will be super helpful for concept paintings, plus you can also save your new brushes as tool presets so you don't have to recreate a reference image each time. Adobe should be shouting about features like this!

Thanks Aaron! This has piqued my curiosity about custom brushes. The end tree result has a strong sense of movement and being tousled by the wind, and it seems like it comes a lot down to rhythms in the mixer brush created by the leaf custom brush.
@a.joshatt75186 жыл бұрын
Marvelous. If I am get it correctly, the result is like an intersect of mixer brush and normal brush, gives wanted colors and texture to a normal brush .

Since you said you’re a traditional artist, I’d like to share with you that by putting a couple textured swatches in the mixer brush with a grunge brush, Then turn the spacing down, it gives the same or similar effect to double dipping a paint knife in different colours.

Thanx Aaron, ive taken a few of your anatomy classes....really wonderful to brush up on things i learnt at art school, which sadly hadnt used for years as i went into graphic design. Now im working as an artist/illustrator & a lot of my work is in digital, which i began about 18 mths back. Coming from traditional i found Painter a really great program, it feels very organic & has all the brushes & tools i need. However ive just begun work on a childrens book, first job illustrating a book (very excited) & decided it would be a good idea to learn PS (which ive only ever used in graphics, photo manips), it has similarities with Painter, but so much i need to learn. Any tips are of great use! I think the biggest difference is Painters blending, most brushes also blend...just lower resat, ive relied a lot on that i guess, & PS just doesn't have the same capabilities. I know theres smudging, but its not the same & videos ive watched on blending with brushes seem complicated. Is there something im missing, how do you blend colours?
