1. Take after - (somebody) to inherit similar physical or personality characteristics from an older relative. 2. Take out - (somebody) to take someone to a place like a cinema or a restaurant and usually pay for them. (something) remove or withdraw. (somebody) to kill somebody. 3. Take in - to allow someone to stay in your home. To sew your clothes to make them smaller and fit better. 4. Take up - (something) to start a new hobby. Take up learning English. After a preposition… Gerund! (noun form of the erb). Take up sth with sb. Raise (discuss) a issue (problem) or concern you have. 5. Take down - opposite of ‘put up’ to remove something from a high position. To win in a fight. Often to hit or shoot a person and so they fall to the ground. 6. Take to - (something/ somebody) to start something new and be good at it. OR to instantly like a person. 7. Take over - to control or dominate situation - often a conversation. To buy and control a company. 8. Take on (something/ somebody) to hire/ employ a person. OR to challenge somebody. To accept more responsibility. 9. Take off - when a plane goes up in the air (leaves). When a new company starts to become successful and make money! To remove clothing. E.g. take off your shoes. To leave suddenly or unexpectedly often without telling anyone. 10. Take back - to return something. Or Retract something you’ve said.
