Those saying this printer overpriced I agree it's expensive and only prints slightly bigger than the m3 max BUT from someone that owns both an M3 max and the Jupiter this printer gives MUCH better prints.. I picked up my mega 8k on eBay just 3 months old for £1700 including delivery and 2 sheets fep, it's normally priced around £2600 here so I saved over £900 in total making it a great deal! I didn't use the default settings because they seemed a little too slow for me so I dropped the light off delay from 3s to 2s, then I increased the bottom lift speed from 40mm to 50mm and also increased the normal lift speed to 80mm.. So far I've only printed a few test samples and a bust but I've had no failures and the prints look so clean and crisp I think it's fantastic.. I wouldn't recommend this printer for a beginner just because it's a big printer and you're much better off learning on something smaller like a saturn 2 as it's still 8k just much more forgiving.. Ps I managed to the print time down by quite a bit but still maintain the perfect print quality, in the end I was able to achieve 200mm prints in 21hs so that would be 42hrs for it's max build volume!! 🥳

Don’t you have to have some sort of bath to treat the finished product in, then put it into a UV fixer? What the benefit of these type of printers?

You are right, cleaning is a pain and time consuming. I stopped cleaning my resin printer after printing. Instead I just leave the resin in the vat until next time I use it. And yes, the resin does separate in the mean time. So if I have been a away for many days, I run the build plate up and down 10 times to mix the resin - or take a plastic spatula and mix it up, right in the vat. I'm sure this is not the best practice and can compromise the print quality. buuuut the time saved if worth it IMO. Excellent video, full of very good tips and tricks beside the very useful review!

Thank you, we really appreciate your feedback! As for cleaning, I guess everyone develops their own routine, we - Top 3D Shop - certainly prefer to stick to cleaning because if one damages the FEP film and then resin spills over to the LCD screen, the outcome is very unfavourable :)

Thank you! We're glad the review was helpful. As shown in the video, the perforated platform has its pros and cons. Advantages: usually when printing on a resin 3D printer for the first couple of hours there is no way to see if the model is glued to the platform or not - this can only be determined by the sound of the model peeling off the film in the tub. In our video you can see almost immediately that some of the holes remained closed and no resin dripped from them, which means that the model is glued to the platform from below in this place. Given the volumes of resin and the difficulty of cleaning the printer, this property of the perforated platform can save you a lot of time. On the other hand, there are some disadvantages: 1) Cleaning the holes is more difficult than a cleaning a completely flat surface. With that being said, we have a workflow that has worked great for many customers. See this post and video from Hadrien Leleu: facebook.com/groups/Phrozen3DPENG/permalink/1999008093597681/ Follow the 3 easy steps: 1. Soak: Soak the building plate in the IPA for around 10mins 2. Blow or Poke: Use an air gun to blow or a screw to poke the holes and the surface. 3. Wipe: Wipe the building plate thoroughly with tissue papers. This will do the trick. 2) We also recommend cleaning off the top when you start the print as the resin might accumulate there. Dripping from high up, it can leave a splash on the printer's body. You don't have to do it, but it won't make things worse. 3) Holes being visible on the bottom of the printout. This can be mitigated by printing on top of supports and by polishing/painting. It's surely up to you to decide what works best for you, but in our opinion the advantage of knowing the printout is firmly stuck to the bed (without having the extra stress of returning to the printer on the next day to only see a huge blob) substantially outweighs the potential disadvantages.

Hi, What's the best large resin printer, We make patterns that go to a foundry to be moulded in sand to create a casting. So needs to be accurate and large as possible . Thanks

If you had to pick one where price didn't matter which one would you pick the Saturn 2 or the Mega 8K? I'm looking for best quality, best print speed, print size, and overall the better product even if there is small compromises.

Hey Brandon! I assume you're referring to the Saturn 2 10" 8K Mono-LCD 3D Printer here and the Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K. I believe it really depends on your requirements. You're trading build volume (330 x 185 x 400 mm for the Mega 8K VS. 219 x 123 x 250 mm for the Elegoo Saturn 2) for XY resolution (43 µm for the Mega 8K VS. 28.5 µm for the Elegoo Saturn 2). The lower the XY resolution, the more fine-detailed your prints can get: www.chitubox.com/en/article/support/indepth/technology/32 If we're talking about miniatures, I believe the level of detail on both machines is great and the trade-off is insignificant. But if you have some jewelry jobs you'll need to complete, then maximzing the XY precision makes sense. In addition, consider some convenience factors. Since the Elegoo Saturn 2 is smaller, you'll need to pour less resin into the vat in order to start the print. And it will take less time to clean the build platform. BUT if you're planning to print LARGE prints, then the Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K is certainly more convenient. You can build the entire part in one go, no need to sand parts, glue them together, etc. I hope this sheds some light on the two options. If you want to discuss your application in more detail, feel free to email us at sales@top3dshop.com
