I'll answer that. Because the U.S is not run by American's its run by Isreal and their central banking system. I thought this was common knowledge?

@David Miles You will NEVER see any American tried in The Hague as a war criminal or a person who commits crimes against humanity, EVER, as long as the U.S. Empire continues. When the U.S. Empire dies though then you will see a nuclear war or "real accountability "finally. Power over International Law- The U.S. Empire. Power trumps all.

It's worse than painful , from the right winger church goers who think America should support Israel because the Bible says so to the Pro Israeli Hasbara students paid to comment on the internet in support of genocide. It's unacceptable. Their version of reality(lied to since this all started) is threatened so they cling to shoddy justifications to break every moral rule in the book.

Never met a Chomsky hater that could ever make an attack on him or his readers without resorting to lies and distortions. At best you never read a single book of his; at worst you did, and still managed to completely avoid any understanding. Thanks for proving once again that the haters still have nothing to say.

Noam Chomsky is truly a great inspiration and I recommend his books. Those of you insinuating that he doesn't know what he's talking about or that his is misleading, I would ask you who's more likely to hold those properties - the world's leading intellectual who has given his life to demistifying some of the greatest issues facing civilisation who's widely recognised as one of the greatest contributions to modern political dissidence, linguistics and philosophy... or you. Much love for Chomsky!

This comment seems to be in contradiction to Chomsky's philosophy which is about the empowerment of ordinary people in the face of large institutions that are "widely recognized". The message of his books is to think critically and research, and not to shut up and bow down to a source of information just because it is said to be reputable, as you say.

@@asleepbydawn137 Could you clarify what he meant then? There's no reason for us to shirk back and accept what Chomsky says just because he's a "renowned academic" who has "devoted his life to study." That title applies to any number of bourgeois economists or imperialist historians too. The strength of Chomsky is however that, if we do attempt to refute his points with our own research, we come up short. Open debate is advantageous for everyone.

For those of you criticising Noam Chomsky below - Most of what he says may sound somehow unjustified or redacted, but I don't think you can expect him to give the full detail during the lecture, though if you wish to understand the issues, read the massive plethora of books he has written which go into a huge amount of detail. What he says is based on a massive amount of knowledge. Noam Chomsky is recognised as one of the world's greatest intellectuals, if not the greatest.

Any country under occupation would react violently. Again, I never claimed to support Palestinian violence. What my position is is that Israel is violating international law, discriminating against Palestinians, and not willing to give back to the Palestinians what is rightfully theirs. I condemn Palestinian violence as much as the next, but would you expect anything less from a country under occupation? America needs to stop playing favorites with Israel. BOTH sides need to be held accountable.

This was an incredibly informative lecture and despite the enormously depressing nature of its subject-matter, Noam still provided a strong measure of hope and inspiration. As for Israel, it's foundation is based on an ugly sin committed on Nabka Day. It is inevitable that Israel will collapse from the weight of its own dichotomies. Most importantly, it cannot exist simultaneously as both a Jewish State and a fundtional democracy. JMHO

@John Sinclair Well .... being say a WASP criticizing Israel has not generally gone well. Noam actually went over to Israel and lived on a kibbutz and did farm work and all that. He came from pretty humble beginnings, the Great Depression was in full swing, and he remembers one family member who was very lucky to be disabled because NYC had a program where disabled people got preference in operating news stands. I believe Noam often watched the news stand and got a lot of reading in as a kid this way. As humble as his beginnings were, he grew up in an era where upward mobility was a real thing in the US. Unless you were a total fuckup, you were up on the up escalator, socially and financially. Yes, up through the 1970s Jews were restricted in where they could live, where they could go, etc in the US but in NYC where Noam was, it was less of a problem. And he went to MIT because they were a lot less restrictive about allowing Jews in. In his time school and college were cheap! If your parents were janitors, anything, they could support you and you could go all the way up to PhD. And Jewish parents, like all non-WASP parents, help their kids. Noam was allowed to live at home instead of being kicked out at age 18 etc which is the hyper-individualistic "American way". Of course now the only social mobility in the US is downward, but I have gotten over the resentment I felt, of Noam the richie-rich college professor, because if I'd been born into his world I'd have risen up too - and I'm not Jewish. Also Noam has written a hell of a lot of books and extremely good ones too, and the royalties from those add up. It's simply that from 1935-1975 you didn't need to be born into riches to stay out of poverty; just be a decent person and you'd rise up!

Balfour was apparently anti-semitic and thought Zionism and Palestine a good way of ridding Europe of Jews. A disliked man. Lloyd George sympathised with Jews equating them similarly oppressed like the Welsh. Ever the Imperialist Pragmatist, however he thought a Europeanised people would provide a guard dog for the fear of ever present, of an Egyptian takeover of the Suez Canal. Stalin was the first to recognise Israel and supply them with Czech arms. Thinking that Zionism having a Utopian Socialist wing and being gratefull to the Red Army, preventing annihillation of all Europe's Jews. The Arabs were thought 2nd rate. Zionism sided with the USA. The Arabs were betrayed by everyone. The hideous Maelstrom continues with unending horror for the people of the near and middle east. Including Jewish Working Class. The Arab and Jewish workers are the key to a solution. They have little to lose!

Perhaps he would be more to your liking if instead of criticizing the atrocities committed by his own state and it's proxies, he mindlessly cheered them on, as most public intellectuals (the kind you no doubt, admire), do. But of course, for people that know and understand anything about the real world, that would be a monumental loss. You have plenty of cheerleaders of mass murder to admire. Those who prefer human decency over state worship will continue reading Chomsky.

No it wasn't an anti-semitic comment. Firstly, her name isn't Helen Smith. Secondly, she doesn't just mention two countries. She says 'home' and mentions three, Germany, Poland and the US, but implies that they should go to whichever country they lived in before Israel was created. Thirdly, when she was giving the list she was actually interrupted. Fourthly, she probably chose those three because, with the exception of Russian and Romania, they had the largest populations of European Jews.
