I live in mining country where "pasties" have been a staple for miners for years. They are so popular, even grocery delis sell them. Locals have adapted pasties, which are enclosed in a pocket of crust, to a pie version. It is made with ground meat or small pieces of steak, carrots, onions, potatoes, and optional rutabaga. Bottom and top crust, dot with butter before putting top crust on and bake for 1hr 45 mins. Everything is assembled raw, so easier than your version, although it doesn't have a sauce to it. So yummy. I consider ketchup mandatory with it.

Hey Phillis! I so love your channel! Good downhome cookin without all the bells and whistles. I have a suggestion for you if you have never tried it... for a meat pie( I use it on bottom crusts) add one or two tsps of finely minced onion when you add in your wet ingredients or better yet, mix it into them before adding. I really takes a meat pie to a different level. Try it at least once. You can add more onion if you like it next time.

I make a similar one with steak sliced thin...almost stir fry pieces. I add onions and mushrooms and potatoe chunks boiled til a little soft(potato salad size) I saute the mushrooms and onions and cook the steak a little. I use a premade dough on top and bottom of a pie dish. Cook at 350 until pie crust is golden. It's super good in the winter. Ketchup is good drizzled on individual pieces once done. 😊

Phyllis I had a question I was just curious about. I noticed in your videos (which I love by the way!) you and Mr. Bucky eat lunch around 3 o'clock. Do you eat dinner or do you just do your smoothie and then just a late lunch.
@PhyllisStokes10 жыл бұрын
We have the smoothies every morning and then the next meal is at around 3:00pm. Sometimes we have a little something to eat around 7:00 or 8:00pm. Usually that would be more like a little snack. Our doctor is very much in favor of just having two meals a day and no snacks - while initially I didn't agree with him we are both now convinced that this works for us.

Mindy. If you have a gluten allergy, then I’d suggest a gluten-free flour. Now, I’ve never tried this type of flour, but I have heard others who are gluten-free brag on it. You might try Bobs Red Mill. I understand it is substituted one for one. Read the bag. They sell it at nearly every big supermarket. The other suggestions from Patricia of mashed potatoes or hash browns sound great as substitutions.

If your brain's like mine, you've noticed professional chefs never scrape the bowl...and I'm thinking: 1. the remnant you just left in the bowl could hold more nutritional value than all that that you just rolled out 2. all that that you just rolled out is made up of hundreds of nuggets just like what you left in the bowl: nuggets plus nuggets equal the whole recipe, so how is it you just left some nuggets behind?
