Hello awkward walkers! You are not alone. We are in this together! Edit, after 3 years: My legs are bent as fuck but it does give me an advantage as a footballer for some reason. I was called "gay" when I was younger because of my awkward walk but it has definitely gotten better with practice. Just chew a gum or listen to music or just wear a sunglass to distract yourself when you are walking alone as it gets worse when you are conscious about your walk. Distract yourself from thinking about it by any way possible. If none of these exercises or distractions work , just walk super fast. It is my recent discovery and it works for me. Thanks for the 3.8k likes. It made me happy. Edit after 6 years: Still walking awkward but walking fast still helps a lot

My trainer sent this to me. I am 6 months post ACL and Meniscus reconstruction. I am 56 and a dog walker, and very active overall. What hurts is walking dogs. Your video is showing me that by holding leashes, I am unable to swing arms and I can tell that the kind of stabilizing my knee has to do when a dog pulls is what is hurting. However if I hike I have no pain for 45 minutes to an hour. So I am going to concentrate on your technique, and try waling the dogs with a hand free leash. ( I also bike for hours without any pain..)

She said no there’s nothing. Today I KZbind “how to walk” because my knees started hurting again and I literally don’t use my hips to walk took me 1:20 to find an answer where a PT cost 1000$

I walk very strangly... It is becouse of the way i have been sitting as a child (its like sitting on your knees, but pushing your knees on tge side, so your butt is on the floor and your knees are besides it). I am still at a very young age and have been bullied a lot becouse of the way I walk... Nobody knows ot really... Even at home my mom says I walk like a pine for some reason, it really hurts my feelings... My knees also have a wierd shape and are pushed really intp my leg... My knees do not look normal at all and also some people said, that i shouldnt be pushing my knees into my leg (like leaning back on my leg)... And I am supposed to think when I walk... But I just don't know how to walk normally, becouse I never did... Also ny ankles and knees pop a lot if you know what I mean, if i do squats it pops several times, it doesnt hurt doe... I just wish every single day I could wake up be able to walk normally, without thinking about it... And when somebody makes fun of me it really makes me feel unhappy with what and who I am, like that one little detail changes who I am, and also before maybe seeing or walking away from sonebody always makes me feel akward becouse I have been made fun of so many times I am used to it and I think that everyone does it.... But than again, it is something special about me, maybe I was meant to be diffrent in some way...

No one is ever actually ever taught how to walk when they first learn as a child. Subsequently, many people develop bad habits in walking, and it eventually leads to bigger problems. But, it is never too late to learn how to walk properly. This video is not to look cool when you walk but to maximize performance and efficiency during walking in order to become stronger and avoid pain.

I just started walking and it's my 10th day. Naturally I noticed when I used my hips like you said, the tension lightened in my lower back. My arms naturally started swinging after that and seems to help push me along. I also noticed touching my toes if my back does get tight when walking longer distances really relieves the pressure. Glad you confirmed I was walking correctly 💛💯👍

I use to never have issues with my walking but then i started Obssesing over my walk now my walk doesnt feel natural.when i walk with friends i sometimes drift off from a straight path and if i walk for 30-40 minutes i feel tightness on my right ankle and also slight tightness/pain in my knees even tho I never had these issue when my walk felt natural Im also always obssesing over my legs and knees even when im laying down never had this issue neither until now.Im always obsessing over them and i feel like it has effected my athletic ability because i feel stiffer. Ive got few more problems with it but I was wondering is this a physical issue or is this a psychological issue?Im 19.

It's hard to break this habit. I was in a military band lol :) Defo will use this. Thanks. Edit: I wanted to come back to say thank you. After just one day, I notice a huge difference. I've had a couple of back surgeries, so my exercise options are severely limited, unless I want to be in 10/10 pain all the time LOL :) Making these changes has really helped me a lot while walking for exercise. I walk way faster, get a much better workout, and can go for a lot longer. I easily went a mile further than I normally do. My body didn't feel nearly as taxed as before. I appreciate you sharing your expertise, free-of-charge here.

This is crazy. I'm 42 years old and no one has ever told me this. I'm 6'3 and weigh 220 lbs and I have had TMJ since my late teens early twenties. I have smaller feet for a tall guy. Size 10 1/2. I can walk like this but it is difficult and I loose my balance. It feels much better better though. I have spent my life leaning slightly forward and walking somewhat flat footed with my hips back a little. Walking like this forces my hips forward and it feels more natural. Thanks so much.
