I'm currently in this predicament right now trying to decide which one is for me.... and STRESS!!! I love the idea of being in a hospital and working with blood, labs, etc. but also straight out of high school I got neck deep into the idea that working with athletic performance and anatomical situations was amazing. As a child, I've always wanted to be in the ER and being neck deep in PT I feel behind but my gut is definitely telling me PA! TRUST IT!! GO FOR IT!!

Good unbiased video. I am a licensed and practicing PTA and have always loved exercise and biomechanics as well as obviously working with people and helping. Now, I am finishing my bachelors degree and I have decided to go the PA route. With PT the one on one care and building relationships with patients is something you can't find in other careers but the ROI for schooling needs to be taken into consideration and PA is honestly a better option financially. For me the biggest decision in choosing PA was the desire to be able to do more. As a PTA I felt limited in the tools available to help patients and more so I feel like I wanted to know more about medicine and the body as a whole. It really just depends if you want to practice movement or medicine. I am glad I worked as a PTA before making the investment into grad school and I reccomend others work alteast as a tech and make sure to shadow before investing your time and money.

Same here! Graduating Spring of 2025 as a PTA, thinking of DPT or PA, seeing what setting i’d much prefer and I think my expertise in movement, as a PTA, and musculoskeletal conditions, would significantly help me as a PA, especially if I were to work in an Orthopedic setting.

Thank you! I'm currently working as a PT aide in Irvine, California at a clinic, and I've really been on the fence between picking the DPT route or the PA route. I think i'll take the PA route because of the income/ and job growth, and also alot of PA programs in California dont require the GRE anymore, I majored in Biology at UCI and fulfilled all my PA pre req's. For DPT id actually have to take some extra classes, and also I didnt do so hot in my physics courses in respect to my bio courses LOL. Thank you for the video!

Thanks for the feedback Eric. Sounds like you are pretty set with going down the PA route. From what you mentioned in this comment, that sounds like the smarter path to go down, excluding your liking for job duties. Good luck!!

Hi. I'm a new subscriber! This is an AWESOME channel!😃 I'm a hospitalist PA in Washington, D.C. I work very closely with the therapy team. It includes OT, PT, and Speech (SLP). Our hospital specializes in patient who need restorative care from CVA, car accidents, gun shots, falls, and other traumatic injuries. You did a GREAT job describing PAs! 😊👍🏾 I wish you the best of success in your positive endeavors! I look forward to watching more of your videos!👋🏾👨🏽⚕️ Can you please do a video on the difference between an M.D. who specializes in physical medicine and PT? Thanks!😁

Thanks for the video man! Just subscribed. I'm still stuck between the two. I was pre-med out of college but after working in the field I decided that med school wasn't what I wanted. I'd prefer PA school but I would probably need to do a post bachelors for updated science. If I go PT, all I would really need would be PT experience and hours. So I'm trying to weigh my options.

It is different in every country. But in the USA, you must have a DPT to work. You can get a bachelors and the straight to dpt

@drjustinleedpt3 жыл бұрын
So they both achieve the same thing = a doctorate of physical therapy degree. A transitional dpt is someone who has been working already and wants to go back and get a dpt degree.

@@sangeetachhetri3445 if you are working as a physical therapists in the United States, you are required to say your title as a physical therapist anytime you mentioned that you are a doctor. For example I have to introduce myself as Dr. Lee, physical therapist. I cannot just say Dr. Lee.

Hi thanks for the video. This is very explanatory. I have masters and dpt degree and practicing as physical therapist in NY for 2 years now. But the scope of practice such as lab result, x ray, assist in surgery sound good to me and difference of around 20k in salary is also a point of considering for PA. Do you think it is worthwhile re-entering for PA as a physical therapist in mid 30s?
@sanghyunlee86062 жыл бұрын
Plus, do you think there would be any extra benefits of being both PT and PA like running a business like clinic for regular physical therapist? Referring or sufficient patient numbers like that?
@drjustinleedpt2 жыл бұрын
Hey great question Sanghyun! You must have been hitting those hooks hard to have a dual degree like that! I do agree that Dpt’s are limited on their scope, but very easily able to refer out and get lab results/imaging. I think it would depend on your passion towards medicine and being a PA. I personally don’t think it’s worth it and having a dpt degree when working as a PA is a waste of time to me. As a pt, you know that you’re making significant changes and even without imaging, you’re still making an impact. Plus we know that imagining doesn’t always correlate with their pain or function. I really can’t see how having degrees can be useful, especially because they practicing different things. However, I think using the basic knowledge of a PT can be absolutely beneficial when taking with patients and providing prognosis as a PA. a lot of heath are workers are absolutely clueless when it comes to exercise prescription. Overall. Knowledge is good to have. Increase in 20K is NOT WORTH IT for an additional several years and more debt
