Sir can you explain that when in acidosis co2 will increase which react with h20 to form h2co3 which further form h+ and hco3 - . This h+ will increase the acidity but how sir as hco3- is also there in same proprtion so whether it will not neutraalise it.
@Alexiepie
@Alexiepie 3 ай бұрын
Equilibrium Shift: In acidosis, an increase in CO2 levels leads to more carbonic acid (H2CO3) formation, which dissociates into H+ and HCO3-. However, if there is already an excess of H+ in the system (due to metabolic processes or CO2 retention), the equilibrium will shift to produce more H+ in response to that existing concentration, further increasing H+ levels. Buffering Reaction: HCO3- acts to buffer excess H+. When HCO3- neutralizes H+, it converts to carbonic acid. If the production of H+ exceeds the capacity of HCO3- to buffer it, the HCO3- can become depleted. Metabolic Factors: In conditions like metabolic acidosis, the body may produce additional H+ from metabolic processes (e.g., lactic acid or ketone bodies), which can lower bicarbonate levels or increase the need for bicarbonate to buffer the additional H+. Depletion of Bicarbonate: If there is a sustained acid load, the available HCO3- may be consumed quickly in buffering reactions, leading to a situation where H+ continues to accumulate.

Sir in case of alkalosis... Carbonic acid gets converted into H+ & HCO3-.. So the same bicarbonate ions will also contribute to alkalosis? ?

I have a Q sir .. In acidosis there is hyprvnt: and prodction of both H and HCO3 is stopped .. then how it is helpful in maintng PH ?

Yes..New additional H+ n Hco3 formation decreases due to hyperventilation n then for the neutralization of already present acid ....3rd line acid base balance mechanism comes to the role....which is controlled by kidney....i.e Excretion of H+ n absorption of Hco3 occurs....this hco3 balances the acid...n maintain pH level...for this action 3 Rd line mechanism takes time of some weeks.
