Basal ganglia acts as a switch for initiating or not initiating motor impulses for movement.. Hyperactive switch causes hypokinetic disorders while less active causes hyperkinetic disorders.. if you know how.. comment below.. if not watch the video and find out..

Maam If dopamine inhibits indirect patway So there should be less inhibition of movement inhibitted by indirect earlier ? So how it facilitates movement ??
@PhysiologyOpen3 жыл бұрын
The answer lies in your statement itself. indirect is inhibitng movement, if dopamine inhibits this inhibition, it is equivalent to facilitation

When GPe also inhibits GPi, why doesn´t it lead to a disinhibition of the thalamus ? I thought the direct pathway also inhibits the GPi so that the Thalamus is ultimately activated, isn ´t it the same mechanism?
@Ranvirkaur65559 ай бұрын
I am also confused
@winifred98628 ай бұрын
I think it’s because at that time the striatal neurons aren’t activated. So GPe inhibits GPi on way or the other.

Mam dopamine being inhibitory nt should inhibit striatum in direct pathway as well... Why it's not so
@PhysiologyOpen3 жыл бұрын
Whether a neurotransmitter is inhibitory or not deoends on the receptors it acts on...Here in one pathway it acts as excitatory while in another pathway as inhibitory

What neurotransmitter teleased by pars reticulata?
@PhysiologyOpen Жыл бұрын
By pars compacta: dopamine. Substantia nigra pars reticularis is output nuclei of basal ganglia: releases GABA

Mam 1.If basal ganglia should inhibit antagonist and stimulate agonist it should know the present position of the body like cerebellum is knowing through spinocerebellar pathways but even though it is not having connections like that how is it able to inhibit some and stimulate some? 2.What is the difference in functioning of cerebellum and basal ganglia with regard to planning and programming a motor action.Can one suffice the other in its absence means if cerebellum is damaged can basal ganglia compensate not all but atleast the planning and programming function of cerebellum? 3.Will cerebellum and basal ganglia work synnergistically ?

Mam can u pls explain cerebellum,spinal cord, reflexes

Why are u mentioning only pars reticulata while saying substantia nigra? Mam

Is it... Pars compacta releases dopamine

Mam u said indirect pathaway actually inhibits thalamas but incase if Globus pallidus externus inhibits subthalamic nucleus whose function is to excite Globus pallidus internus then it will be no longer excite Globus pallidus internus, but if globus internus gets activated so it can easily inhibits thalamas but here is not happening. Why ???? Please clear this concept mam

Indirect pathway inhibits thalamus in 2 ways by Gpi and via SUbthalamic nucleus
