The hip joint is a ball and socket joint and articulation takes place between the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the pelvis.
The hip joint capsule is tight in extension and more relaxed in flexion.
The capsular ligaments include the iliofemoral ligament (Y ligament of Bigelow), and the pubofemoral and ischiofemoral ligaments
