Brilliant interview! Love Dr. Jam. Im a Canadian with an undergrad in Kinesiology and im in my final year of my physiotherapy education here in New Zealand and i believe the system is far better here. Its a 4 year program (Bachelors of science and not masters) and they start clinical hours right from 2nd year. We had the opportunity to see our profs not only in lectures but also in clinical setting seeing real patients on a weekly basis. We were also taught modalities for 7 weeks in 3rd year and i believe there is a place for modalities in acute settings and even if its a placebo effect still its beneficial for the patients but it should only be used as an adjunct to get patients moving and no more. But we weren't examined on the modalities so we did not need to know how to set different modalities by heart which was good, they just wanted us to know these are out there if we come across. Our final year is all clinical so we all spent 6 weeks each out in either tertiary, community, msk and rehab. There are still some things that needs improvement here but i believe the NZ physio grads are well rounded and so far im satisfied with the program here. Sorry for the long shpeel just wanted to share my experiences from the other side of the world :)

Yohan Perera Hey! Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it! Sorry for getting back so late. That's super interesting that it's only 7 weeks and you don't have to know all the minutiae about all the therapeutic modalities. I really wish it was like that here. 🤣 I also agree with you when you say if it's used, it should be used to help get them moving again (and symptom modification if needed). All in all, seems like most PT programs around the world have their voids, but it seems like they're all doing a pretty solid job as a whole. I'm glad to hear that's the case in NZ! Good luck in your final stretch!

hahahh I'm dying....hotpacks, shortwave diathermy!!!! I believed the same thing when I came back from Curtin. Just think if they started teaching manips in university, what would the people teaching the level series do? Its a multimillion dollar industry!

When physio teaches exercise to the patient. The patient knows more exercise than the physiotherapist. Physio asks " wow. How come you know all exercise and lifestyle modification?" Patient-' "on KZbin. All exercises are on KZbin where physiotherapists are teaching. Can I get a massage(manual therapy)?"

Bro i am from India and I want to choose diploma in physiotherapy in Canada So is there any test or exam that I have to clear to get a college for studying physiotherapy diploma ??

Hi there! Thanks for the comment. Yes, there are two exams you need to pass before being registered as a licensed physiotherapist in Canada. The first is a 200 question multiple choice computerized exam, and the second one is a practical/clinical exam. If you want more information on taking these exams, visit www.alliancept.org/ Hope this helps!
