Thought this was a case aimed at desktop use of a Pi and wondered why the battery (and no provision for a USB integrated SSD), but when I went to the web site they showed it off being used for robots and drones, so is intended to be a nice way to package the Pi in those kind of Maker applications.

As far as the stuff it comes with? Lessee... 4 click buttons, 2 each old-school, 5mm dome-top, red, yellow, green LEDs (think 1990s style), a sonic range sensor, a microphone (labeled “sound sensor, though it’s NOT an IMU), a tiny buzzer/speaker (like the old motherboard ones for boot beep diagnostics) and.... oh wait, that’s it. A piezo buzzer, a mic, a sonic range sensor, some buttons and a few dim, mono LEDs. I’d rather see stuff like M5Stack includes - Barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, volatile gas, etc sensors, color sensors, sonic along with radar, laser, etc range finders, and similar. The accessories they’re including would have been expected 20 years ago in a diy kit.... and promptly replaced with something more useful. RGBW LEDs. Capacitive touch sensors. NFC read/write devices. That sort of stuff.

You made a Raspberry Pi Fan out of me. I was looking for a small box to take with me as some sort of "classic" game console to use as emulator and as a small "low end" PC. Seems to fit perfectly for this needs since all i need to emulate is GBA/GBC/N64 games, probably try even emulating PSX as it seems to be powerful enough. Much better value than any of these "mini" consoles of Sony or Nintendo. Not mentioned yet playing around with a Raspberry Pi which i wanted since ever but never saw any reason because of low performance and im not really a fan of linux. When i see this thing has also battery.... damn nice, all is missing now is a small screen for it to use it as regular computer on the go.
@harrison00xXx4 жыл бұрын
Is there any solution to use a SSD while its inside such a nice housing or is it better to go "mobile" with the data and use a fast USB 3 stick instead, which is also cheaper (and already there with my Sandisk Extreme Pro USB3.0 Sticks)? Transfer rates are pretty ok also over USB3 what i have seen. Wondering if the OS/platform is capable of bitstreaming DTS-HD and so over the HDMI port? If yes god damn the Pi4 is damn awesome and i absolutely NEED it. Could be even "better" than a subnotebook/netbook when using it with a display with built in battery which im anyways thinking to get one because sometimes i want on my notebook a second screen (on the go or even at home to be able to fast remove/add a 2nd screen from the table)

Instead buying a Pi3, I bought an x86 for slightly more money with an SSD, USB3 and without fan (complete silence!). Now, Pi4 finally has USB3, but still, my old N4000 CPU is stronger, and while Pi has a good support, an x86 has better support.

Ahhh the Pi-Top It’s best you plug it into a monitor instead of a laptop first just to boot it up and update it. I’ve done some experiments with it and it seems to work with Kali Linux, the Display on the Pi-Top doesn’t seem to work, on Kali Linux flashed into the SSD. It’s either blank or a display of SSD pointing at the Pi.

Hey, I've had this question for some time now. Could you please test if one of those external touch monitors with usb C works with HDMI as input but also with the USB connected (just as a touch input device to the host PC). It would be awesome as a second monitor for a desktop setup having touch enabled. Thanks
@dimitristryfonos96804 жыл бұрын
I know a lot of laptops implement the touch (digitizer) function in a similar way. Also a lot of controller board for external monitors use edp for the display and usb for the digitizer and combine them both over a usc C port. Early android phones did this as well if my memory serves me well. Can't see why this wouldn't work but I also don't want to spend extra for a touch display that will end up as "just" a second monitor.

What's with the coil on the bottom of the case, does it do Qi charging? And what's the camera connection for?
@pickleshanks4 жыл бұрын
I have no idea about the coil, but the camera connector is for the RPi camera modules you can get. It's just a way to make the case fully compatible if you want to attach one of the cameras available for the RPi.
@ryandunwoody50764 жыл бұрын
That's an FPCB cable that is taking the pi's two HDMI signals over to the closed side of the casing - it has many signal traces which is why it looks like a coil! We take both the Pi's CSI (camera) and DSI (display) interfaces and pass them through to the 80-pin connector on the bottom of the [4] - access is provided by an expansion plate that the [4] docks into. We built a 3d printed mars rover over a year ago prior to this feature (in a pi-top [4] prototype) and it used an RPi camera. However, every time we wanted to un-dock the [4] from the project to use for something else we also had to disconnect the camera FFC cable which wasted precious time - this is why we added a pass-through!
@jagardina4 жыл бұрын
@@ryandunwoody5076 That explains it. I did hear mention of the docking port but wasn't aware of it's full capabilities. This really makes the rpi a very versatile package for use in many applications. Keep up the good work!
